Yes, it's true, I did it (and it wasn't the first time)...yet I am not ashamed. I just flew a 205 NM trip in a 172...without the magenta line....yep...no ipad, no iPhone, no i-anything. I used a paper chart and a single VOR receiver. And without the magenta line or little blue airplane on an i-device (or android, this is an inclusive environment) I was also able to determine my position at various points during the flight. I determined my approximate distance to various checkpoints using this thing on my wrist called a watch. After all of this, I reached my destination safely. And best of all, it was pretty easy. So yes, for those of you out there that have been wondering, it is still possible to navigate without any form of GPS. I know @eman1200 will condemn this behavior as he has a very strict 5 iPad minimum for flight. I hope he will still be my friend after this. P.S. I also got my briefing and filed my flight plan.....on the phone! Shhh... don't tell!
