Garmin SL-30

Good question. I took one out of my plane for a panel upgrade and it works great except for the volume knob is a bit wonky.

I’m looking at possibly buying a used one with 8130, but one avionics shop said they won’t install due to no longer being serviceable.

We sent a customers SL30 to Garmin last year and they serviced it. Haven't heard that they've stopped, but our shop is not a Garmin dealer. I'd be willing to inquire tomorrow, if needed.

For a while if you had one of the ex-Apollo things you had to make sure you sent it to Salem, OR rather than Olathe, KS or you'd waste a lot of time.

Thanks for the PIREPs. Now I just need to find a shop willing to install a used piece of avionics. It does have an 8130. So far 2 have said no bueno.

Well, it turns out that the individual is a scammer. Found out he signed up for GOPA, but does not own a Grumman. Claims he owns a E-2 Hawkeye, but our GOPA Secretary said he scammed the membership. Seller was selling the Garmin for $1700, which is well below other sellers, and said he would only take Venmo or Zelle, and did not know what escrow companies did. Send $1700 to someone you don’t know or know of… yeah right!

He knows exactly what escrow companies do, which is why he feigned ignorance. Of course I’ve also seen scammers insist on using their own fake escrow companies.

There’s a lot of this targeting aviation. Regular occurrence in Facebook forums.
