SW Colorado. A pleasant surprise; I never expected to see them this far south. I spent many cold nights watching them when I lived in AK; on my bucket list to do that again.

Back to Florida.
The best thing about flying over the beach in Florida? Watching all the people in the water, a good portion of them with a high fear of sharks, unaware that sharks are going up and down the coast maybe a few hundred feet away from them.

The beach home my grandfather owned, and where I spent near every summer, is almost smack dab in the center of your photo. Now they are surrounded by large multiple story homes and high-rise condos. That whole area, from P.C. beach to Destin has seen crazy development from back in the early 1960's to now. I recall when Sandestin was being advertised as an up and coming new development. It was out in the piney woods east of Destin. I recall thinking, "who in their right mind would want to have a home out here". Last laugh was on me.
Flew back from Phoenix to Chicago today in 11.6h, about 7 of which was night flying.
Intended to spend the night in Kansas, but still had plenty of energy at the refueling stop so I continued onwards. Great VFR cruising day with slight tailwinds! Some photos from the return voyage.
About ~30-60 miles SE of KFFZ. The glare unfortunately somehow drowns out some of the greenery down there.

~North east of KELP, IIRC... Shortly after taking this photo I realized my Sentry suction cup had failed and it had fallen out of reach.. Doh.
Quick sunset fuel stop
Right after takeoff from Roswell NM. That's the last I'd see of the sun for the day. Time to traverse the remaining 5 states in the dark.
Flying over Wichita at 9500'

New glare visors (Rosen) aren't polarized, but they definitely improve cloud contrast (a nice surprise).

The cold never bothered me anyway
I posted a variation of this I saw a while back and mused that I should buy one for my awesome IA who signed off my engine and a lot of other stuff I've done. Well,I went to buy one and noticed that the pictures were all AI slop and looked really dumb if you look close enough. So I stole the slogan and put it on my own photo.
It didn't wind up costing much more than one of the pre made ones. I think it was appreciated, or at least the sentiment was.

Nice, peaceful flying day. Overcast winter flying is -- hands down -- my favorite. Pairs perfectly with spotify or an audiobook.

Flew to Ocean Ridge (Gualala) in Mendocino County on a gorgeous day.
