    Type Rating And Weight

I thought I had seen this requirement somewhere in the FAR's before about aircraft being more than 12,500 lbs required a type rating. Looking at 61.31 it just says "large aircraft." Have they taken out that specific weight requirement, or am I just dreaming of something?

    Cookbook For Pilots

So I am thinking about writing a cookbook geared to pilots. I have some ideas, such as a unique recipe for breakfast, cheeseburger for lunch, things like that. I would really appreciate some feedback as to things you would like to see in this book, or maybe a cool $100 hamburger. Any feedback...

Weight And Balance Problem For The CFI Written

These kinds of questions are driving me up a wall. The question is, how should the 250 lb weight be shifted to balance the plank on the fulcrum. What is throwing me off is where the datum is. Do you calculate the W & B for the two weights and the plank, find the CG and then determine how...

GA In The Miami, FL Area

Thinking about taking a trip down to Miami for a cruise this summer in either a Cirrus or 182 RG, and just wanted to know what would be the best airport to fly into. I was looking at Miami International, but it doesn't look like they have a general aviation ramp. Has anyone flown into Miami...

Had To Surrender My Pilot's License Yesterday

But I got a Temporary Airman Certificate and replacing Private Pilot it now says Commercial Pilot. :) Not too bad of a checkride. The oral lasted about 2 hours, flying lasted 1.5 hours. The wind was almost too bad to do any kind of maneuvers, but we got through it. Now it is time to start...

    Lazy Eight's With Gear Down

So I took a pre checkride last week with my examiner and he jumped all over my for not lowering the gear when I did a lazy eight. For the entire portion of my commercial checkride, I have been taught to do this maneuver with the gear and flaps up. When I did it with the gear down, (and a power...

Question About Class G And VFR WX Minimums

I am looking at the weather requirements for Class G operations, and I can't seem to find an airport or airspace that would be Class G above 1200 feet. I guess what I am asking, is if there is an airport that is Class G at the surface, outside of any other airspace, where does the Class G end...

How Would It Be For A New CFI In This Environment

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts on a new CFI and the likelihood of finding a job in this economy are. If you are a CFI, is your flight school hiring new CFI's or have you cut back? Just kind of wondering as I am hoping to finish my commercial license this month and jump right into the...

Commercial Cross Country - Some New Lessons Learned

So I did my commercial cross country this past weekend. Started off from Concord just north of Charlotte, NC and flew to Morgantown, WV. Picked up about 23 gallons of fuel and headed to Washington, PA. Hoped outside, took a picture and then flew south for about 30 miles to Clarksburg, WV...

    Commercial Training - Thanks

I am nearing the completion of my commercial license and I just wanted to extend a thank you to all of the threads I have read on here about training and checkride tips. Here in NC, the weather hasn't been cooperating too much with us lately, but it is finally starting to clear up. From what I...

    Memphis, TN....Any Cool Spots?

I am thinking of doing a long cross country for my commercial license from Charlotte, NC to Memphis, TN. I have never been to Memphis and it looks like a cool place to spend the weekend i.e. have some good BBQ, listen to some good music, hang out on the river. Has anyone been to any good...
