    dressing up the instrument panel

I am looking for some attractive "washers" to put behind the toggle switch/headset plug nuts. I want to use black knurled nuts with a chrome/stainless washer slightly bigger behind them. I have 12 -3/8" switches/headset plugs and 3 -15/32". The closest thing I can find are some switch nuts made...

    Garmin 696 question

After almost 2 years without a plane, I got back in last week! I am confused with all of the Garmin updates. I will only update every 2-3 years because 99% of my flying is to airports that I am familiar with. I need to know which updates I need to buy in order to make sure I have the latest...

    economy vs speed

I have a question. I think I figured it correctly but I an not sure. In a plane I just sold, I could fly 145 n miles in 1 hr 10 minutes burning 14 gph. If I buy a plane that flys 110 mph @ 10 gph, which plane uses the least fuel? I think the 10 gph plane will actually use more fuel.

mag ground wire 0470 R engine

0470R engine, 1974 Cessna 182 I just found that both mag ground wires are connected to one mag (the right side) rather than one wire to each mag. I assume it has been this way for "years" because the hot wire and the 2 ground wires were zip tied together. Is this correct?

    broken Comant DME/transponder antenna

I snapped the transponder antenna from the belly of my plane with a wash brush (don't ask!). The wire was "soldered" to the flat metal antenna (metal is approx. 2" wide x 3" tall but is paper thin). I used the word soldered above, but I don't know if it soldered or secured with some type of...

    Log your GPS database updates

A friend just received a letter from the FAA that he was being violated for not logging his gps updates. He has been told that VFR gps's do not have to be updated, but if they are updated, you must log it. If not updated, it must have a placard. The FAA quotes 43.9 (I believe that is the correct...

    return of deposit?

Short version. A "buyer" sends a deposit ($1500 on a $30000 deal) on an airplane, agrees on the price, agrees to pay 1/2 of annual and some other items. The agreement is verbal. The day the annual is completed the buyer advises that he has decided not to buy the plane. The decision not to buy...

    Garmin 430 vs 430w

Is the investment in the 430w worthwhile (over the 430) for a non-ifr pilot? I don't have an instrument rating but I do have a plane and auto pilot capable of using the bells and whistles of the wass.

Praise for S-tec (Cobham) and Chad Howard

Yes, It is me, the guy who, in an earlier post, was really upset with S-tec and my avionics shop over (1) no quote prior to repair (2) auto pilot not fixed. Chad Howard, flight operations, from Cobham has bent over backwards to make this MORE than right!! He personally came to my local airport...

Disappointed in Stec and avionics shop

The short version: The vertical speed was not working on my stec 60. I went to an Stec authorized avionics shop, they put in a computer out of their plane and it proved to be the problem. The owner suggested that he send my computer to stec for an estimate because the repair cost might be too...

    1974 Cessna 182 air conditioning

I can't find an STC for adding air conditioning to a non-turbo 182. Can someone point me in the right direction? Oh, and does anyone have an air conditioned 182 (or similar plane)? thanks

    s-tec 60 vertical speed

My stec 60 works great except for VS. I hold the desired vs, (ascending or descending) engage the vs button, and the plane instantly descends at about 1000 fpm regardless of the rate I have set or whether I was climbing or descending. It is like the vs is hung on -1000. Any ideas?

    knots2u aerovents

Has anyone here installed the aerovents? I have a 74 cessna 182 with the pull out tube type vents. I flew in a late model 182 with the new vents that the aerovents are modeled after. They are great. The price is ridiculous but i am interested in some feedback from anyone who has installed them.

Maybe I am confused. What is the difference between an owners manual and a POH? I need to find an Faa approved manual (which ever is legal) for a 1974 cessna 182P. Where can I get one? thanks
