I am trying to decide where to carry the wife for the 4th weekend. We have the 2nd-5th so a flight sounds great
We are in NE Texas so I looked at South Texas (Fredericksburg), the Texas coast, Ruidoso NM. Right now, the forecast is for rain at all of these!
I considered Colorado Springs but I am a little shy about flying into such a busy airport (sort of a new pilot).

Any ideas?

Trust me, COS is NOT a busy airport. On the other hand, if the Texas Coast is appealing, check out Jay Honeck's hotel on the beach (no, I don't get a kickback). Me? I'd go for Sante Fe or Taos NM.

The forecast is for isolated to scattered; I am flying to Fredericksburg, and expect to see decent VFR. The fireworks in Lady Bird Johnson Park are amazing, and best viewed from the ramp at T82.

Simple answer for a forecast like now: wait until the time in question, make the call then. Unless there's a well-developed front, in Texas in the summer, you can fly VFR easily and safely - don't fly into the storm.

Now, as to whether you can get (1) a room, or (2) a car, at this late notice... that's a quandary!

What are you flying? Do you have experience with summer ops in high DA conditions? If you go to COS, you're going to want to leave at 0-dark-30 and be there well before noon, otherwise the bumps will rattle your cage(s) like they've seldom been rattled before.

Thats easy.....the Bahamas..!!

$100 Poboy Opportunity at Diamondhead -
On Sunday, July 4th at 66Y, Diamondhead, the Silver Slipper will provide free transportation from the airport to the Pier House Restaurant (formerly the Yacht Club) and return. Transportation will also be provided free of charge to their casino. They are planning a future Labor Day event and want to see the support of the aviation community. Van service will be at the airport at 1, 3 and 5 or on call for pick up. Call either 228-255-0080 or 217-7444. This is a great opportunity for a $100 hamburger - or poboy as I choose to call it in Louisiana. Here is the link to the Pier House Restaurant website....

On the other hand, COS will probably be much more pleasant, weatherwise, than anywhere in Texas (much lower humidity and most likely cooler too). DA is definitely something to seriously consider in the summer in COS, though.
