Fuel gauges only need to be accurate when the tank is empty?

So I'm doing preflight. Normally I do it alone, but due to motor car issue my CFII picked me up at home and was walking and talking while I did the preflight. [Not germane to the story but it's good to live 2 miles from your hangar, easier to get rides ;)] I get my highly calibrated stick and...

[N/A] A question only (the real) Sac can address

I've noticed that when buying fast food milkshakes the shelf life is highly variable. Some use plastic cups that don't keep it "shake like" as long as the places that use foam cups that seem to keep it "shake like" for oddly long periods of time. Flavor-wise I have some preferences. But for...

[POLL] Handheld Radio in your plane

Some discussion of which handheld is best got me thinking about a couple things. One is the subject of this poll. But I'm curious: For those who chose answers 1 thru 5: Do you use your handheld to monitor Guard like we're all encouraged to do? I think that would be a better habit than using...

Ravioli says something good about Southwest Airlines

Why is this noteworthy? Well, it has never happened before. Southwest is no longer allowing "emotional support animals" to fly free. I hope the real airlines follow suit. And if you didn't know... I take my Pomeranian on commercial flights routinely and always pay the pet fees. What's the...

    Silly Transponder Stuff

Saturday morning I called up for flight following and a practice approach to KXYZ. Departure said: Squawk 4646 and ident Well... the 4 button on my xponder didn't work. WTF? Tried again... no joy. Departure, Bug Destroyer 666 unable 4646, can I have a different code? Negative BD666, all...

    What a drag...

Saw this interesting demonstration of drag force at the end of an advertisement. (We RV types buy from Alan and this thread IS NOT about his company or products) The interesting part starts at 6:21 Enjoy! [Maybe someday @SixPapaCharlie can teach me how to cut down a YT to just the relevant...

The other thread got me thinking. I know there are some. I'll start with C172RG. Here are the non-allowed responses: Bonanza Cirrus Raptor [We beat that horse routinely] and of course... anything Vans

[NA] There ought NOT be a law [NA]

Comment in another thread got me thinking... What law do you think should go away? [Note: All of them is probably not feasible] I'll start: When the City of Fort Worth annexed the area my house is on, it became illegal to have well and septic. We could keep the wells for external...

Since we're all working from home and there's less ability to walk to a coworkers office or cube or whatever, what's been bugging you about all telephonic interaction. These all bother me. I'm sure I'm missing some. PM me if you'd like to add response choices.

    "Pencil Whipped"

Another thread got me thinking on this. Who signs off an annual with a pencil? Shouldn't it be "Pen Whipped"? Also, who uses pencil in their pilot logbooks? Is @Ravioli being too damn literal again?

What happened with the first 18 Covids?

We're dealing with Covid-19. But I don't remember the 18 Covids before it. If we all had the first 18 Covids would we be able to understand 19 better? Is this like watching Star Wars VII without ever seeing "A new hope"? Asking for a friend

    [N/A] Gas or Electric

I've always preferred natural gas for heating, cooking, clothes dryer, etc. My current abode is all electric. Hasn't changed my preference in the least. So, now the question. Are Electric only homes less prone to fire than those with natural gas?
