What’s in your “emergency go bag”?

Not a flight bag, but your emergency “oops” bag. Attended a CAP presentation on cold weather survival. Three things the presenter suggested having in your pocket are a whistle, pocket knife (with saw blade) and flashlight. That’s just in your cargo pocket. I might also add a glass-breaking...

    Embraer 505 down KPVU

News Link Just happened this morning, Jan. 2 Embraer 505 headed from KPVU (Provo, UT) to the Rose Bowl (local pilot knowledge so don’t hold that as a fact). Went down after takeoff but impacted on airport property. One fatal. Three injured. Pretty much MVFR in the area but don’t know that’s a factor.

172 down 1/2 mile from Akron, OH airport

Link FlightAware shows one flight the morning of lasting approximately 2 hours. Then the accident flight was approximately 3 hours. I think the bigger news is that two people were pulled alive from that and taken to a hospital.

    Are you a safe pilot?

I like to think I am. But after reading so many botched pilot stuff on this forum it’s hard to quantify. My latest was a horrible landing attempt in a 172 with a CFI aboard. Go around was an easy decision. Done several of those in my time. If it’s not looking good you can always go around...

Single experimental crash lands on a flat roof

77-year-old pilot injured. Katherine’s report shows a landing incident two years ago resulting in a prop strike for the same tail number. Edit: a link helps  https://www.ksl.com/article/50328641/pilot-injured-after-single-engine-plane-crashes-on-roof-of-building

Or felonious behavior? At least the plane can most likely be used again.

Help me understand anti-collision lighting requirements

    a) Beacon inop Strobes good. Fly or not? b) Strobes inop Beacon good. Fly or not? c) Beacon inop No strobes. Fly or not? Looking for a better reasoning/understanding in these scenarios. My personal understanding is that if any installed anti-collision lighting (beacon/strobe) is inop then the...

Learned a valuable lesson on my last XC

Add a roll of TP to the flight bag. Thank goodness not actually needed but that could be messy if the FBO is small and unattended and as I found no TP in the bathroom. 2020 really just needs to die already.

“CCTV footage” ... yeaaaah I don’t think so.

Somebody was filming a particular street for some reason and accidentally captured a plane falling out of the sky in Brazil. Seems both occupants made it out which is good.
