    Uavionix AV-30-C for basic trainer

I'm bringing my 1995 Socata Tampico back from the dead. I got busy and let it sit for 6.5 years. :( The vacuum AI in it died before I parked it. Its not required in the Socata minimum equipment list, but come on... The plane does not have an auto pilot. There is NO autopilot available to STC...

54 knot CAS MOSAIC requirement, and only that. :)

Can we talk about the 54 knot CAS MOSAIC requirement, please. I'm one of those poor suckers with a plane that has a Vs1 of 58 knots. I'm struggling to understand how/why 54 knots was selected and how to argue that it should be higher. And why the "...since its original certification..." part? I...

Rate of climb vs altitude in Turbo normalized aircraft

If HP is held constant by a turbo normalized engine and indicated airspeed is held constant, will rate of climb increase as you climb into thinner air? Thinner air should reduce drag. The engine will keep putting out the same HP. That should result in higher climb rates, right? Higher TAS will...

Delta Hawk DHK180 for my Socata Tampico TB9, I just paid the deposit

Edit: 180hp for 5 minutes, then 135hp continuous. "Ideal cruise power 135hp". I’m not a home builder, it’s not for a sport aircraft, but my plane will pass through Experimental along the way. I’m not sure if this is the right area to post, but here it is. :) Current engine is a 160HP Lycoming...

Headed to Anchorage, where to check the Alaska box?

I'm headed to Alaska in October and will have some free time to fly, weather permitting. I'm due for a BFR, or whatever it is officially called, and have never been to or flown in Alaska. Suggestions on where to check that box off at?

Are there ANY EFIS that are certified for primary airspeed indication?

I need a new attitude indicator and I would like to go with a certified EFIS. My DG is seven years old. My dry vacuum pump is 3-4 years old. My airspeed indicator probably needs an overhaul. I would love to roll all this up into one or two units & dump the vacuum system. Are there ANY EFIS that...

Anyone flying to an airport in the 100% eclipse zone?

I'm in the 98% zone. I am working on taking my kids out of school and flying them to KSRB Upper Cumberland Regional Airport near Sparta, TN. (North central Tennessee.) Nice long runway (6,700 ft) with few obstructions, cheap 100LL, and a great reputation. It is also inconvenient to major...

Stratus Power Charging Port, two 2.5 amp USB ports, TSO approved

So Stratus has this charging port thing that they are selling for 1/3AMU. It has two USB ports, each can put out 2.5 amps @ 5ish volts. It works with 14 and 28 volt electrical systems (10-32 Vdc) and is FAA TSO approved. $349... I am leaning heavily towards this to just get it over with. Little...

Attitude indicator died, going to duct tape an iPod in its place

My AI is kaput. Good vacuum, it flops around every once in a while, but is pretty much dead. I fly VFR only right now & an AI isn't even required. I'm thinking about mounting an iPod over the AI and using my Stratus 2S to drive the AHRS app, Stratus Horizons...

Lost my vacuum pump, severe VMC day

I lost my vacuum pump yesterday in severe VMC. The spinning DG was distracting, so I hung a wash cloth over it. Other than that it was a non event. I would hate to have that happen when in IMC. Stupid me, it never occurred to me to use the AHRS/Synthetic Vision feature on my iPad/Stratus 2s...

NA - Moving sucks... also, time to find a new job.

I have to be out of the house today. Travel for work tomorrow. (Also so I can bring my RV back from one of our sites so that I have a place to sleep at night.) Then I have to have everything cleaned out of the storage areas attached to the hangar by the end of the month. From that point forward...

    Name THIS snake

I like to call him Dusty... He must have got caught in my cast net...in my boat...in my garage/hangar... Probably in there looking for mice. It didn't turn out so well for him.

Mooney down in Wichita, KS everyone walks away :)

Aw heck, this happened on the 18th. I bet there is a thread already. :( Nashville, TN to Jabara AAO (I think). Engine failure. He put it down near the 14th hole of the Tallgrass golf course. I bet he didn't file a flight plan... n9262m, Sabris corp out of the Wichita area...

How big a trailer to build a plane in?

If I were to use an enclosed trailer as a fabrication shop to build an RV or a Sonex how big would the trailer need to be to assemble all the sub kits before final assembly at an airport? Assume no tow vehicle restrictions. I tow with a diesel F350 dually, so there should be no practice issues.

    SAIB HQ-16-05, grade UL94 fuel

SAIB HQ-16-05, grade UL94 fuel, issued today (Nov 10th, 2015) What does this mean??? This was just issued today. Does it mean that they finally approved a 100LL substitute? http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgSAIB.nsf/(LookupSAIBs)/HQ-16-05?OpenDocument

    ADS-B in saved my bacon

Edit: This is a good example of something called TIS-B shadow. There was no aircraft behind and below me. It has happened to me several times since then. Now I just ignore it. Hopefully it will always be a shadow and not a real aircraft coming up from behind... I have left my comments unchanged...

    Stratus 2S mounting options

I have a low wing aircraft, an iPad air, and a recently purchased Stratus 2S. Now I have to figure out how to get all of that to work together. I own the plane and have not flown another plane in over two years, so I can "temporarily" install the unit in my plane and pretty much leave it there...

    Stearman Field 1K1 8th annual fly-in, near Wichita Kansas, 20 June 2015

I'll have my Tampico parked out there when I'm not flying. PM me if you are in the area. I live on the field. Free breakfast for pilots who fly in. There is a car show all morning in addition to the fly-in. http://www.stearmanbarandgrill.com/ June 20th, 8th Annual Fly-in, this is...
