Thinking about: Leasing a new truck

Yep, no need to put anything down, but your monthly payment will be $139/mth higher over a 36 month lease. Which is why they love to advertise with a giant initial payment.

Another humdinger of an accident report (spoiler: More THC!)

I find it amazing that they can do toxicology tests 3.5 months after the crash. That's incredible.

    Adios AOPA...

I'll keep renewing my membership of AOPA and EAA. I don't get much out of their member services, and wish there were more. But we need a voice in Washington, and money is speech these days. I haven't gone as far as contributing to their PAC, but I can see its place. If you want something...

Video SR22 shooting approaches in fog, icing and heavy snow.

Can someone tell me why the manifold pressure and %power is bouncing around early in the video (from around 7:30 to 8:00)? He doesn't seem to be adjusting power, but it's not at all stable.

    Boston trip

Was it the FBO (Flightlevel) that wanted to charge the fee? It's not like the airport has restricted hours or anything, but the FBO is the way to get onto the field if you don't have a security pass. It's been a few years since I was there and I don't remember the reason there isn't a gate...

PPL solo X-country... am I allowed to plan my own route?

Multi-state flying is easy, you just have to do it in New England. I found hand flying a multi-leg xc as a student to be quite tiring. 3hrs was plenty for me, but if you want to go further, have at it.

    Dulles Push Times?

I think you're talking about IAH, unless you meant that the IAD controllers are great.

    Hudson River corridor closed

Link to NOTAM: http://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_6_5257.html Looks shut until at least inauguration day, and whenever Donald feels like going home I guess.

    Flying into Washington DC

The F16's were out over downtown DC this morning, so presumably someone didn't follow their SFRA procedures . I've used the taxi from GAI to Shady Grove option a few times. Pretty painless.

Finding an airport's CTAF callup name?

The correct name, at least for towered fields, is in the A/FD under communications. For instance, the KISP entry lists "Long Island Tower" and the KSMF entry lists "Capitol Tower", to address a couple of examples given in this thread. The CTAF call up name? That one I don't have a good...

Plane Crashes into House in Mass.

Very sad, and such unfortunate timing. Less than 20nm from his destination (OWD), and almost equidistant from Mansfield and North Central. Looks like he'd already started down, and 3000ft doesn't leave much to play with :(

    Frederick fly in this Saturday

I'm intriuged by this instruction in the NOTAM: "VFR Flight Following: Pilots wanting VFR flight-following are requested to file a VFR flight plan with FSS. VFR departures may obtain their VFR flight-following beacon code from Potomac TRACON June 5 and 6, 2015 between the hours of 12:00 NOON...

    iPhone 6+ or iPad?

I believe this has been rectified. I get that effect on the iPad 2, but on an iPad Air, I can view it in both directions with polarized sunglasses.

No it doesn't. It talks about "Passenger carrying flights for compensation or hire".

    Nastiest airports you've flown in...

Nothing wrong with RUT or DXR when VFR. Love them. I agree with the Montauk/MTP nomination on the other hand. Anyone who says they've had a smooth landing there is lying.

    Flying to Dry Tortuga?

It looks to me like you've entered the ADIZ there, and are flying inside it for the vast majority of the time. As Dry Tortuga is instead national park, isn't 2000ft the minimum altitude? (It's the "requested" minimum, at least)

Major problem on takeoff. Need some guidance on how to correct!

So what's different when you do it at full throttle? Are you very nervous?

Major problem on takeoff. Need some guidance on how to correct!

Agree. Did you do some taxi practice first? My instructor had me taxi the plane all over the airport twisting the yoke left and right.
