    WWII photos

KodaChrome is hands down the most beautiful blue photography medium. These are spectacular. Thanks for posting. Kyle

    Putting up the Flag

Bothered me too, though I did see another country drop theirs, pick it up, and proceed to towel off with it. Nice video. I think I need to go make a purchase. Kyle

    Nice online aviation experiment

I was good on everything except the airspeed. Several times it pitched up and reduced power (or pitched down, increase power) and I expected the airspeed to go out of limit, but it didn't. Good test, from a non-pilot's perspective. Kyle

    Dumbest Aviation "Products"

You're not the only one. I was picturing a trucker hat and wondering if sieved urine was less corrosive or something. Kyle

    Discovery Flight tomorrow (Saturday)!

Not to fuel the steam/ glass debate, but I never found a turn coordinator in the G1000. I also wasn't really looking, but added rudder to the side my butt felt like it wanted to slide to. Didn't need much, anyway. I can't wait to get back up. I told myself I wouldn't start training until after I...

    Discovery Flight tomorrow (Saturday)!

I'm happy to say that I have 'hypothetical approval' of our future flying costs. Heck, she's already saying a plane will essentially be our third car. True or not, I'm taking it as a good sign. I'll definitely suggest she take a flight on her own- I hadn't thought of it, but it would allow her...

    Northern lights from another angle.

Wow, that was really cool. Thanks for posting! Kyle

    Discovery Flight tomorrow (Saturday)!

Well, that was fun. A brief orientation of the plane and the panel, we (he) taxied out. Run-up complete, make a radio call and he tells me to steer us out onto the centerline. I line us up thinking he'll do the work until we're up and away...next thing I know I'm firewalling the throttle and...

    Discovery Flight tomorrow (Saturday)!

Thanks for the ideas, everybody. She's probably going to be stuck in the back this trip. It being only an hour and us being poor at the moment, and this being a birthday present (her largest mistake yet! :)) to me I'm going to hog it. Honestly, I'd love to go up as a passenger with her up front...

    Discovery Flight tomorrow (Saturday)!

It's not my first time in a GA, but it has been awhile (12 years?) since I was last in the front seat of one. Typically I don't get motion sick, but my wife has in the past on a small (30') boat off Belize. More importantly, she'll be in the back while I'm in the front. I'm actually more...

    Discovery Flight tomorrow (Saturday)!

It's a 172 with, probably G1000. I'm really, really, hoping my wife enjoys it so I'll have an easier time explaining why school loans can wait and plane loans car start. Only sort-of kidding. Kyle

    Discovery Flight tomorrow (Saturday)!

I'm starting to get more excited....I have a discovery flight scheduled for noon tomorrow. The only downside is, I can't start lessons until at least September for lack-of-cash reasons. Therefore, August is going to be painful. But, assuming it doesn't rain tomorrow it'll be a good day. I'm off...

    FIFI in Buffalo

Hi all, Maybe this has already been mentioned (didn't see it in a cursory forum scan) but when I got home from work today I heard an unusual sound. I had just seen a C130 go over and thought maybe this one was flying slower for some reason....then I looked up and a saw a very shiny, low wing...

    Men Portrayed As Morons

And not just in advertising, it's fully spilled over into colloquial speech patterns. A coworker was describing a trip to rural PA where I'm from (he's from California, in Buffalo, NY now) and gave his best farmer voice. It was a little offensive given that I've never actually heard anyone sound...

    9mm handgun

I'm a big fan of Ruger. My mother in law has an SR9 that shoots well. Make sure it's the post-recall trigger model, though. My personal (not carry) is 7.5" .44mag. It's possible I'm making up for some other shortcoming. Haha. I don't carry in Buffalo (NY) because it's a near-impossible venture...

Are people always stupid near trains?

I agree with this. Not that people should be debilitated from a car wreck, but we need to remember that while 60mph seems slow, it's a LOT of energy....especially when a human dies from falling 40 feet, which is was less energy. A little soreness, broken arm or something to help us remember...

    Full Metal Jousting!

Isn't that awesome! Most people I talk to that've heard of it think it's a terrible idea- bunch of loons charging each other with horses and sticks. I can't wait till it comes out on NetFlix (no cable). Can't be any worse than Ax Men or any of the Discovery 'reality/ job' shows. Kyle

    Those Beacon Lights - - -

Every time I read a thread about that video, I think "gee, that'd be fun sometime- just to try once, say I did it". Then I watch the video and within oh, 10 seconds or so decide I'm fine down here on the ground. I think height fear is a relativity thing. I don't much care for a 10' drop...
