    Improving visibility = bad?

Last summer and the previous summer I had close encounters with rapidly developing thunder storms. I posted about them here at the time. I've mentally re-lived those encounters many times. In retrospect, I realized that a lot of the "wow, where did that come from" was due to the visibility...

    Barely made it.

I just got back from a $100 burger run to Okeechobee (OBE). The problem is that I barely made it back. Flight service predicted no weather concerns. For the 3 hour period which would cover the round trip, weather was expected to be dominated by a high pressure area. I could expect "fair...

    Bummer

Carol just got off the phone with her sister. My SIL lives just outside of North Port - lots of woods and very few houses. When she came home from work tonight the police had the area around her house blocked off. It seems her neighbor was shot and killed. LE is looking for the killer. My...

    Somethings wrong.

On the way to the airport this morning I stopped to fill my truck with gas. $3.199/gal. No surprise there. Then I got to the airport and filled the AA1B. $3.649/gal. 100LL has always been at least $1.00 higher than mogas. I need bigger tanks so I can stock up.

    Accident at VNC (Venice, FL)

I went to the airport this morning for a fun flight. As I neared the airport entrance there was a stream of emergency vehicles entering. There is an aircraft down in the grass beside 13. That's all I know for sure. I didn't want to try to get closer and possibly cause problems for the...

    Eagles attack paraglider

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070202/od_nm/australia_eagles_dc I've often wondered what large birds think of us as we cruise past.

A very tiring but rewarding day.

My brother's family spent this past week in Orlando making the rounds of the Disney attractions. I spent Monday afternoon and Tuesday with them but had to come back to work. My 7 yr old nephew was hoping I could give him his first airplane ride - they drove down. The weather was really crappy...

    My first litteral cross country.

I've had my ppl for nearly four years but, until 10 days ago, I had never flown farther than about 200 nm before retuning to base. When Carol announced that her family was having a reunion in Pittsburgh, and that I was going to attend, I bagan considering flying our AA1B instead of going...

Life is good ... for now anyway.

It's been really hectic at work lately. Too many projects, looming deadlines, and last minute changes make for long hours and working weekends. Not time to do anything and too tired even if I could find time - I'm sure all of you are familiar with the routine. But I made sure I had most of...

Engine sitting idle in the shop.

If an airplane spends several weeks in a shop for non-engine related work will the shop do something to circulate oil through the engine to prevent corrosion? The reason I ask is that my airplane has spent the last two weeks in a paint shop. It's due to be finished next week. With the...

    Seeking pre-buy recommendations

I am looking at an AA1B in NJ. I'm hoping someone can recommend a Grumman knowledgeable A&P for the pre-buy inspection.
