Hope this thread isn't too old to dig up. Does anyone have experience with e-book or PDF far/aim vs the iPad/iPhone apps? Seems like the apps would update year to year while you'd have to re-buy the e-book each year? I think it's finally time to stop carrying that load of paper everywhere...
Yea, but then you're stuck with something certified. For the money might as well be able to go top of the line, or strip it down and hand prop it. No worries with STC's or any of that BS.
I've had the kit since late April (2010) and have almost 170 hours into the build so far. It's my first plane so I'm slow to work and am pickey about how things come out. I expect it to take me 2000 hours to build (they say 1200 is average). The tail is mounted and elevator balanced. Floor...
It's been awhile since I posted here, but this came up on my Bearhawk radar.
This is a good write up and vid of the Sportsman experience. My wife and I considered the Sportsman and Bearhawk (both mentioned in the thread) and we went with the Bearhawk. It's not as fast, we didn't get 2...
Additionally, it seems a 2-3% inaccuracy is pretty common on a tach. I've seen this comparing an optical tach to a mechanical one. This is more like a 20% inaccuracy, however.
Woops that was a little bit of a brain fart coupled w/ iphone typing. The rpm was off by 300-500 rpm maybe 800 rpm at full power (well into the 3k range). That's hundreds, not thousands. I only noticed it b/c i was shooting approaches (VFR) and noticed that it was swinging weird and the...
So a tach is minimum day vfr equipment per 91.205. To me that means an inop tach grounds the airplane. What about an inaccurate tach? Say one that is 3000-5000 rpm off and swings within that range? (bad cable). Is that considered inop? Should it ground the a/c?
Thanks,
Matt
We hit Rippon @ a/o 7:15 wed morning. There were maybe 3-4 planes ahead of us and everyone was following the notam. Everyone was getting their own runway, so our arrival was actually pretty easy. I won't count on being as lucky next year, however.
I ended up driving due to weather, so scratch me off the poker run part as well.

I'm just glad I'm not the only one considering the ground route. Was afraid I might be shunned for being the only one showing up that way. It looks like there might be 3 or 4 ground pounder pilots and that's alot better than living too far away to drive.
I still haven't commited to driving...
It doesn't look like they're going to be so scattered now. We can't get out of town until Friday morning. I'm just hoping it's VFR-enough friday morning to make it down there. If not, we'll either have to give up at least 1 nights rent or drive the 3 hours.
