There's one very practical use of NVG that pops immediately to my mind. Engine out emergency at night.
This obviously wouldn't be an ongoing normal operation; but if the fan stop spinning and all I saw was black, NVG's would be a Godsend.
Just had to install a new water heater last week. I considered the tankless type, but the reviews I saw said the average savings on a tankless would take over 20 years to recoup the increased upfront cost.
The potty seat in the rear makes me chuckle.
