That is not uncommon for small fines. Then the US bills him.

Tell ya what. I'll buy him the skates and he can skate back to the mainland. If he makes it, he is free, if he feeds the fishes, oh well.I'll tell ya. The kid's gonna skate.
That will get plead out in the first 5 minutes of negotiations, especially since he wasn't caught with it in the US. The Bahamians have different rules to play by than the US, and I doubt they want to keep him. If he didn't threaten them with it, I doubt it'll be a major hurdle. He'll probably come to court in NW Washington and considering the people who make up juries for the most part, I doubt it's something the prosecutor is wanting to go to court over.
$300 fine and a trip home when the boat he stole had the engine shot out to stop him? Much less he damaged other boats trying to steal them and robbed a a restaurant on the island.

mmmm thats not my experience after 21 years handling criminal cases. He ain't gonna get life but 7-9 months doesn't seem realistic in my experience. Can't say what would happen in the bahamas
I've got $20 says he's out of custody in under 1 year and off probation by the time he's 30.
Well, we know what happened, "$300 fine and get out of our country." In California, Grand Theft Auto is 45 days.
And likely back stealing stuff within a year of release or after his movie starts making money.
The lawyer is telling him and Mom right now, "You'll plead guilty. Serve a year in Club Fed, and make $nn million on the movie and the book. Maybe we'll get you a TV reality show."
The Bahamians prolly got some pressure, real or implied, to let the US & FBI handle the kid.
You are right. But I believe his Mom can profit from all this, as she is (legally) innocent of her son's crimes. And she is the one signing with the lawyers and press agents....I thought a law went through some years back denying them the ability to profit from this beyond IIRC the amount of restitution he has to pay. IOW, he can't make a net gain off it.

. The FBI couldn't, or couldn't be bothered to find a kid who is stealing potential terrorist weapons?
He was stealing light G.A. aircraft which are effing worthless as far as terrorisim is concerned.
Remember January 5, 2002.
I'm talking about their rational, not reality. Remember P-40 and the DC ADIZ? They haven't been removed nor have small aircraft been exempted. They can't say in one case "They are a threat" and in another case say "They aren't a threat." The predominant way they treat small aircraft is as a threat.

Report Sheds Light on Barefoot Bandit's Sad, Troubled Youth
...
The so-called "Barefoot Bandit," 19, captured this month in the Bahamas, was often alone and hungry growing up in squalor in Camano Island, Wash., according to The New York Times. He reportedly stole food from neighbors, bullied classmates and clashed severely with his mother, Pam Kohler, with whom he had an explosive relationship.
By age 10, officials were investigating whether he was being mistreated by his mother. By 12, he had been diagnosed with depression, attention deficit disorder and intermittent explosive disorder. And by 15, he and his mother had been visited by child-protective services at least a dozen times.
..
He was first arrested at 12. A social worker's report from that time sheds light on the family troubles. "Colton wants Mom to stop drinking and smoking, get a job and have food in the house," the report said. "Mom refuses."

I'll remember that when I become a state director of rural development. When you consider the biased crap the MSNBC and CNN pump out Fox can seem fair and balanced. Many of the stories that Fox gets accused of being slanted on actually come from other credited sources. Its just that many of the left leaning complainers aren't diligent enough to look into and qualify their information. There are many sources for news, not just these major retail outlets.

The rest of the story is that Fox picked up the video from the web and edited it to make their story. What Fox purported happened is a long way from what actually happened.

They do. But please read what you wrote above- I requoted it so you don't have to look for it. The incident I brought to your attention is hardly "fair and balanced" reporting is it? It shows that Fox is at least as biased as any other news organization. Fox did more that "qualify" their information- they edited the video so the woman said what they wanted her to say.So is what you are trying to make a point of is that MSNBC and CNN don't do that same sort of thing?
What does all this have to do with the Barefoot Bandit? Do we know whether he is a D or a R? Do we care? They do. But please read what you wrote above- I requoted it so you don't have to look for it.
