the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

I’ll try and dig out a 5 1/4 inch floppy boot disk………

Win OS is kinda like C64 to me. BT works fine for me on android and chrome.

On my PC, the BT section in Settings just doesn’t see any devices to pair to.

I blame Win 11. Not a Mac fan mostly because I’m not used to it. But do like Apple products because for the most part they just work.

I’m awake.
Yeah but are you working? I’m off for the rest of the year and I can’t seem to sleep in. My mind is too busy trying to figure out AOPAs latest offer to get an extra entry to the sweepstakes plane with a donation, though immediately below it notes donations don’t improve your chances…

Now that (the donate for extra entry) is truly a tax on stupid people...

is 'donating the same as 'contributing'? only aopa knows......

Two random questions that I have:

When there are two runways with the same number, are they pronounced "left" and "right", or "Lima" and "Romeo"?
What is a runway named that is oriented directly magnetic north?

It makes sense if you don't think about it.

I'm having trouble also with my green screen CRT monitor and my dot matrix printer. Now, where did I put that Commodore 64 tape drive.....

While we're on the subject of crappy operating systems, my daughter's school-issued Chromebook refuses to work with my Brother laser printer. Over wifi it prints blank pages, and plugged in via USB, it causes the printer to reboot. I'm not sure who to blame, though. Maybe me?

Not sure whose at fault, but I know how battles end when it's man vs printer.
Covered extensively in this documentary.

I could never get our Chromebooks to work with our Brother MFC laser printer. I cried uncle and just send anything that needs to be printed to the winblows box and print from there. I'm sure an IT person could figure it out, I just don't have the time or desire.

Knowing Brother, there is probably an(craptastic but required) app for that.

The Brother website claims there is, but I was unable to find it on her device. Possible (probable) they have them locked down as to what can be installed. I was surprised as Android and Apple tablets both print to it just fine over wifi. She was able to save the document to her Google Drive and open it on my desktop. Probably for the best that she can't print stuff easily from her room....

Nah, getting old is great, but it's not for sissies.

I think we've all known a few folks who weren't lucky enough to get old, but who died young.

It was once said to, "live fast, die young, and leave a good looking corpse." At my age all those options are out the window ...

'Tis said that quote originated in a 1949 Bogart movie, "Knock On Any Door", but was often regarded as having originated with James Dean. Many others including Grace Slick were also advocates of this philosophy. Like you, those are no longer options for this old fart.

I assume those are GPH. I don’t think I would say no to a free airplane that performs like that.
I would like to ammend my GPH observations. I guess I should never be a star witness.

Takeoff today was 130 GPH for the first 3 minutes then pulled back to 110. Then it reduces during the climb down to 90. Cruise today at FL280 was 66 GPH and 313 knots.

So, this afternoon my wife decides it is a good time to do grocery shopping at Walmart. The 3rd busiest day of the year.

We are in the vegetable aisle, and she wants me to get her one of those clear plastic bags to put her veggies in. I tell her to get it herself since she is closer. I just wanted to see her jump to get the bag. (she is short)

So she jumped, grabbed the bag, swooped her hand and bag in a downward arc with the plan of continuing the arc to hand me the bag to open for her.

Instead, her hand smacks right into my no no place. Yes, right into the mountain oysters, the family jewels. I crumble against the cart with a big ''oooorg'', trying not to double over and fall onto the nasty floor. My wife, thinking this is funny, is cackling like the wicked witch of the west. Three older Navajo ladies were standing there waiting their turn to grab a bag, were laughing. I ask my wife what is so funny, and she replies that I am. I tell her that I am glad she is amused, and that another 1/2 inch to the left and an inch lower she would have to wheel me out in the cart, which brings on another round of laughter from my wife and the Navajo ladies. She then ask me why I am holding my stomach, and I tell her that is where it hurts now, eliciting another round of laughter from the ladies.

By this time I am totally humiliated. I muster all the dignity I can find, try to stand up straight and proceed awkwardly to the frozen vegetable aisle.

I hope to be walking normally tomorrow, and I am hoping my wife will bring me another bag of frozen peas...

Is the procedure to get out of a spin in a V-tail the same as other planes?

I just finished off a page in my logbook today. I wonder if it's bad luck to start a new one before January 1st 2024?

just think about it in terms of the Julian calender or Chinese calendar...

I’m at first flight airport today.

The last time was 25 years ago on the day I proposed to my wife.
Wow. I don’t pop into this thread often. That’s a great story. If one’s handy, share a pic, svp
What took you to KFFA today?

My long solo XC in Jan ‘92 was from Horace Williams (sadly, historic airport closed by NIMBY transplants-they should stay in C.A.R.Y. ;) to KFFA and over oacraoke.
