[Rant] Grumpy Old People

The OP @CC268 is obviously a dick as well as a young punk.

No, not for allowing his wife to eat at the pool nor for standing up to the ladies in question. I have no issue with what he or his wife did.

He is a dick and a punk because he called the ladies old even though he described them as “one was probably 60s-70s, the other was probably in her 50s”. Old? Mofo, I just turned 60. I am not old!:mad::mad:

Punk, if you were here I’d take an extra dose of Geritol and beat you with my cane.

:D;):D;)

And stay off my lawn!!

Thanks for reinforcing what a complete waste of time this website can be. WTF does this have to do with being a pilot?

Hahaha. Didn't have to read it! Plus, I already know your one of the grumpier fellas on here. :)

How would you not know it! It's public knowledge, don't have to actually watch it to know that. Why, you watch it? o_O ;)

Yes, I have watched it. That's how I can state with certainty that it is trash. Relying on "public knowledge" is relying on the judgment of others. Seldom a good idea.

Okay okay I should have said “older”. I promise I’m not a punk though...I’m a gentleman ;)

Yeah, the gentleman thing showed a little when you called them ladies rather than *******. I would not have been as gentlemanly.

Call us back in 30"yrs or so and let us know how annoyed you are with those asinine 20-somethings that live near you.

Okay...so here is the thing. I HATE noisy apartment/condo type environments. It is one reason why we live in this higher end condo complex. There are no annoying kids my age haha. It is VERY quiet and I like it that way. The problem is we weren't being annoying, loud, etc. We were simply grilling and eating at the community pool having conversations at normal conversation level. No music, no cutting up, nada. Like denverpilot said, she had nothing better to do than to be in our business and I am sure it made her day.

Two alternatives:

“When I moved in, everyone I ran into said there was some woman who goes off her meds and starts antagonizing pool patrons...it’s so nice to finally meet you!”

Or, on the caddy shack vibe from above post:

“I bet you were really something before electricity.”

Hahahah

In seriousness, your wife should not have been anywhere near the pool with food.

I think our society has become adverse to confronting others. Obviously she wanted to say that directly, but you just don’t confront people anymore because so many people loose their minds when they are corrected. Like you have.

I think human beings in general love to make a mountain out of a mole hill. I've already stated it multiple times, but this would have been a totally different situation if she would have just said, "Excuse me miss/guys, would you mind eating at the table instead?". Bam no big deal.

I'm not sure my original post conveyed just how big of a jerk this lady was. She was CLEARLY expecting a response back from us. Looking back we should have just left and gone over to the other pool (which by the way we actually did after the argument lol). So in the end we left the lady alone and went elsewhere.

I don't care what anyone says...it doesn't matter your age you have no right to treat people like that. If you think you do, then don't expect everyone to shut their mouth and take it.

Another factor in this...we live in Greyhawk, which is relatively well off area of Scottsdale. There are A LOT of snobby wealthy people. It just comes with the territory. I know not all wealthy folks are like that, but some of them do hold a sense of superiority over everyone. It is irritating. I treat the lady who takes my trash out at work no different than the NASA engineers I work with.

Oh and confronting others...umm isn't that what I did? This sounds like college where people say that BS all the time and yet the college environment is the most restricting/intolerant place on earth. Lol. What a contradiction. Someone mentioned a sense of entitlement. LOL. Is that not what this lady was the epitome of?

You weren't going to win that argument, when you get a little older you will realize futility sooner, lol. A more effective ploy if you wanted to bust her would have been to grab a plate, sit next to your wife, and eat. Or better yet, stand in the pool, with the plate, look directly at the lady, smile and eat. Then invite her down for a bite, or at least the husband for a drink, he probably could have used it.

Lol yea that would have been a good one.

The most "polite" way to have done this would have been to just leave right then. Actually, that probably would have ****ed her off even more.

Speaking of grumpy old people.....

If you look at most of Stewart's post he appears to be a bit unsettled. I don't blame him though. Alaska is COLD!

I have to admit, I thought I'd get a ton of lashback on this thread when I posted it. Pleasantly surprised by the comments thus far :p

I would’ve just told her I pay the same rent she does and I own that fraction of the pool and she can **** off

Get out of the condo as soon as possible C. Living that close to other humans is a lesson in patience and humility. We had this older couple who lived above us in an apartment who complained about me and my wife/then girlfriend all the time. The walls and floor were so thin we could hear them get out of bed, walk to the bathroom and actually hear the urine hit the water in the bowl. We didn't complain, we understood apartment living. They didn't.

I can't recall all that was said, but I think I said something like that...just without the curse words haha. She could not get over the fact that I actually lived there!

So my wife's parents own the condo and we pay a reduced rent, which is nice as it is allowing me to save a little more money to put towards my ratings. I couldn't afford to live here otherwise (well maybe I could, but we would have no money for flying). They are actually really nice, well built condos that provide a different experience than apartments. I am so glad we are not living in an apartment. If I wasn't thinking about a career in aviation and didn't have the commercial/multi engine commercial/CFI to pay for then we would likely have a down payment for a house. Unfortunately we will have to wait a few years before we get around to a house.

I can't wait to have a house and a larger garage and *gasp* a pool I can eat near!

But I agree with you overall...any sort of community living like this you have to deal with BS. You should have seen the mini road rage that happened at the condo yesterday. Some lady in an Acura RDX (probably in her 50s) threatened to "F*** up" some older lady who was pulling out of the parking lot and didn't see her (the parking lot has a horrible blind spot pulling out onto the main condo street).

Oh and to add to the story. So in my OP I talk about a second lady that was up there on the balcony. I am not sure if this lady was the older ladies daughter, friend, etc. About half way through the argument this lady actually started to agree with what I said and was trying to get the older lady to sort of back off. It was a beautiful moment...almost as if...I was a reasonable human being!

"So my wife's parents own the condo..."

Really? You didn't even think to use that leverage in the argument? o_O

Disregard that...I was thinking they owned the complex...never mind. You just continue glomming on to your in laws and pizzing off the old folks. ;)

Yea, but if I told her that she would have spouted off about OHH then you don't actually live here, etc...

Many old people don't remember when they were young and the same was done to them. Or maybe they do, and it's revenge, paying things backwards, as it were.

I think you could have stopped before "when they were young"... and been accurate.

It's not revenge, it's just that we learned.

For what it is worth. She didn't just say one snide comment and stop. We would have simply ignored her. She continued to antagonize my wife passively aggressively (by saying comments loud enough to her friend on the balcony that we could all hear). There was no excuse for that. Period. End of story.

Maybe not for you, but for others...

BTW, I fit squarely in the category of people that might be considered "old" in this thread.

I was in Flagstaff for my niece's college graduation yesterday. Afterwards we went to Coco's for dinner. On the menu they had a "55" page which was the menu for the 55 and over crowd. (yes, I qualify but just barely) For the fish and chips the price was $3 less than the normal fish and chips meal on the previous page. I asked what the difference was and the server said "one less piece of fish."

Are 55 and older people expected to eat less?

Hey don't forget that time I offered to make butterscotch cookies for you and send them via FedEx.

My body tells me every minute that I'm old. My mind, not so much. I think, maybe I should try to remember harder.
