Hobbies that compete with our flying obsessions...

I seem to gravitate towards things that go fast and have big engines...

We also have a pair of jet skis at the lake, allowing one to get beautiful photos like this one:

I play golf, but only a couple times a year. I do really like skiing. Now that the kids are getting old enough to get into skiing, we're going 10-12 times a season. If we could only get decent snow this year...

I fall more towards Nate's girl magnet in terms of my hobbies.

My dad's BuddiPole Antenna on our yearly vacation to St. Maarten. Spent most of our late afternoons contesting for people without St. Maarten's new Ham ID.

I also like doing photography, however most of my pics end up being aviation related. :rolleyes2: I was my high school's football/baseball photographer which led to some fun and "painful" times.

My most obsessed hobby would probably be SCUBA Diving. There is something relaxing about being underwater. The deeper the better! This photo was taken around 130' in OPEN, no land insight, water.

Boy Scouts got me into river running at a young age. I hate canoes because I got trapped under one on my first trip. I can canoe on lakes and streams but not whitewater. So I went solo and got a 11' kayak. Which keeps me from being placed with inexperienced scouts.

My last hobby is science and mapping. This is a picture from my trip to the International Science Fair. Which I worked towards for 6 long years. Hey, I can't complain I got a girlfriend out of it. :D (Red Shirt)

So I'm doing better then Nate's "Girl Magnet" :D

When I am bored I just got for a swim with my friends. You can see me here at the ladder waiting for my beer.:)

All right now..... Where do you get to fly in that Amphibian Twin Otter? :D

Flying, Boating, MINI Coopers, Scuba, Rappelling, Snow Skiing are all hobbies that have either taken a toll on my body or my wallet.
Now that I'm old and maybe a little wiser I tend to work on one hobby at a time depending mainly on the seasons.

Since I live in Florida I tend to fly more during the Winter months and scuba dive more in the Summer months. :wink2:

I have given up on expensive sports cars since the cops around here tend not to believe me that I was just conducting a high speed taxi test.

Since I weigh more now than I did 30 years ago, I have given up the climbing and rappelling. :nonod:

Since I now live in Florida full time and my bones don't heal as quickly as they used to, I no longer go snow skiing. :rolleyes2:

As for boating, well I've had a boat almost my entire life and sold my last boat about 5 years ago and have never
had the money to buy another one because flying keeps eating up all my spare funds.:dunno:

As you can see my license plate holder clearly notifies LEOs of my authorized status.

Hunting.

I thought it was expensive until I started paying by the minute to play.

My girlfriend's dad owned 2 Mini's...awesome little cars (they are still in the family even though he passed away). One is a special edition signed by John Cooper.

Eating and sleeping indoors...

Seriously, I love to boat and travel, so we're broke a lot.

Yeah, I'm kinda attached to indoor plumbing too. Sucks. Doesn't it? ;)

Keep the outhouse seat behind the wood stove. Even at -20 F, if you have something warm to sit on, life is good.

(Well, OK, you still wouldn't want to walk out there barefoot)

Heres a few of mine.....

And the list: Hunting, fishing, motocross, snowmobiling, wakeboarding, snowboarding, flying RC's, Boating, Jetskis (stand-ups), blowing diesel smoke :D, recently getting into USPSA Pistol Shoot Competitions, Tough Mudder, and the list goes on...

My wife says I have too many expensive hobbies, but I have slowed down a little since I now have 3 kids

My money pit track car keeps me away from flying some, but I get equal enjoyment from it.

Talladega Gran Prix Raceway! In Talladega, Alabama. We call it "little tally" and it is a great place for cheap track time. I am still building the car and should be going to Road Atlanta and Atlanta Motorsports Park next year. I have a supercharger and new ECU going in the car this winter. It should be a 2,000 pound, 200HP beast by spring! :yesnod:

Can't say I have much time outside of work, family and flying to have any other "serious" hobbies like flying. I enjoy traveling, hiking and photography so I can combine those with flying to get to some really interesting places so I am not complaining!

Like many others here I do like fast cars. Here are my two favorite toys. I use the left one to get me as quickly to the hangar as possible.

GT-R

Since we arrived in our wintering spot I have been getting back into photography more seriously. Got a great shot of dolphins off of Molokini......now if I was only allowed to post pictures..... :dunno:

Any. The option 'Pictures and Albums" has disappeared from my CP and no amount of questioning to the mods has been answered. :dunno:
Have you considered uploading to Flickr then linking the image to this forum?

Like so...

Any tips for purchasing an older wrangler for a little fun? :) I'm more familiar with Landrovers, but they are seriously expensive over here!

Hmm, hobbies... well, along with the main hobby that is the funding source for my flying habit, other enjoyable activities include cooking (if I can't fit it in the plane, I can always pack up the SUV and bring it to OSH that way :) ), and astronomy.

Still need more time for the latter, but one of the criteria when buying a telescope was that it had to be able to fit in the cargo area of a Cessna 182 - luckily, that wasn't a problem, the Schmidt-Cassegrain tubes are both portable and powerful. Biggest deal now is with the Bonanza, and its tendency to go aft CG on a flight - if I bring along the serious tripod mount, have to think a little more carefully on where in the plane is best to pack the 'pod and those counterweights.... Hope to find more time for that in the future, perhaps add astrophotography to the list.

My main obsession

Although I suppose I could consider shooting a hobby. I dabble....

Does anyone off-road? You tell me!

Used to all the time with the Jeep. Stock Cherokee "Classic" for that with 30" BFG All-Terrain T/A KOs.

Nowadays it's just crappy access roads for doing mountaintop radio system maintenance, and I don't have any photos of the Yukon doing that. It wallows back and forth like a sideways rocking chair.

I just "snow wheeled" in 4 wheel drive two days ago.

We went up to the mountains and chopped down Christmas trees. Alone again this year, we brought back 4 trees for the grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles.

Here is the antique saw I carried up the mountain:
