Criteria:

1. Tasty
2. Ability to be eaten without utensils
3. Ability to be eaten with one hand not required but a plus
4. Not messy
5. Easily available
6. "Balanced" whatever that means. I guess that means bread, veggies and meat
7. No bones or other non-packaging to discard

I've heard it said before that pizza is the world's most perfect food. Yeah whatever. But a good Italian combo hits all the boxes, particularly if it's been in the fridge overnight. But what about other alternatives? Burritos are pretty good. And burgers. Hotdogs?

There is something to be said about a meal that is entirely self contained which can be held by hand. It appeals to the animal instinct to subdue prey without its ability to escape while you eat it. What would you consider to be the world's most perfect food?

Smoked turkey leg.

I think it meats the criteria, and it’s a one handed meal.

Edit:

Except for the bone. D’oh! Missed it by THAT much.

Baked potato sandwich (potato takes the place of the bun).

Not exactly answering your question, but I happened to see an amusing YouTube video that gave your estimated survival time eating one food only:
I recall that Coconut and Yogurt were way up there (multiple decades). No doubt being on such a diet would be awful, but better than starving. I also remember reading that Chuck Yeager had to
make do on a diet of bananas while being detained by the Spanish. This was after being shot down in France and escaping to Spain with the aid of the French resistance. He gained weight!

Donut in one hand, milk in the other. Carbs, protein, and fat. My final meal would be this.

Or some fried outer shell thingy with yummy stuff inside. Kolache? Spanakopita (sp?) Taquitos?

Speaking of Greek food - dolmades? Could be messy with fingers.

NY style pizza. Fold that thing it's a one hand job! Just lean forward a bit, so the orange grease doesn't drip on your shirt. The more you eat the further you will have to lean to miss your growing belly. That won't be the only thing growing, though, so will your cholesterol numbers.

I like a lot of the things on the list. But here's my criteria: You're headed out to do something. Someone says, "Hey, wait, we have ____." What's the food in the blank that will cause you to miss that appointment? A burger? pizza? Nah, too ordinary. But if you're 15 minutes late for that interview, and you say "I'm sorry, I was on time, but the last place had some ribs as I was leaving", you're probably still good. And if not, you probably don't want to work for those people anyway.

As someone who clearly loves to eat... I have some thoughts.

1. Pizza: Pizza is like sex. Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good.
2. Burrito. You picked the wrong Mexican food... But burritos are pretty good too.
3. You have committed a mortal sin by writing "Hot dog / brat". These are not remotely the same thing. One is a bunch of unidentified meat in a casing and... Hey, f off, they are too different!!!
4. Sandwiches: Easy to prep... Easy to inadvertently disassemble.

Now, as to the real answer to the question. And it pains me to admit this as a die-hard Wisconsinite, but it isn't a brat, even if it's parboiled in beer. And it's not even beer cheese soup.

First of all, one must consider the human need for a variety of foods; thus the perfect food must allow you to consume multiple food groups simultaneously to at least pretend to be healthy, while also using the flavor combinations to hide the icky "healthy" flavors behind something delicious. Second, the protein must involve the combination of a delicious animal, the primitive yet comforting glow of fire, and the essential ingredient of time.

Thus, I present to you the indisputable perfect food: The Brisket Taco.

Agreed, I was trying to appeal to the people that dislike hotdogs but like brats. I guess I could have separated them but I was running out of poll choices.

I would have to say....salchi-papas (aka fried hot dogs and french fries)

I do love french fries

Do you mean like in the "Döner" party?
Haha. Much better. It became my go to in Germany. No Mexican food so I gravitated to Turkish food. Although döners have been Germanified kind of like how American change international foods too.

Pizza is great. Also during my recent trip to Sicily, I had the opportunity to try Arancini (the original Sicilian street food).

To be perfect though, it's gotta have some good old 'Merican BBQ. So I'm thinking 'Arancini al smoked brisket'; that's gotta be the perfect food!

The answer is Peanut Butter but you go on with your shenanigans.

ETA: For a snack food popcorn. Popped in oil and with lots of butter.

I was going to say scrod, but that's in the pluperfect subjunctive.

Proper English fish&chips: in my mind, it tasted good yesterday. And I believe it'll taste good tomorrow. Or, "Vinimus, Victimus, Esus!"
