What did you do today?

probably about the time Juliette gets her first pony.

so, Juliette won't have to beg for a pony, eh?

or are you saying that 2-bit speed will never get the truck?

Today, I turned 3 score and 7 years.

How did this happen.??
I think the turning point may have been a charge up cemetery ridge, where avoiding the battle in the first place would have been a better idea for us, er I mean the south.

Oh, and never mind, I think I confused the stories. But just in case, if you go to the theater, avoid the balcony.

Flew the airplane to Taco Tuesday.always a fun day.

Had a train breakdown on my way to work (we were the train behind it so we got a long delay), and then again on my way home (a breakdown and a much much larger delay). FUN FUN!

look at it this way, you got to enjoy extra time riding on a train.

The New Range Saga continues.

I needed to paint behind the old range, and the new range installers need a 240 VAC outlet to plug in the new unit. I had to check as some ranges are directly wired to the house supply. If so, I'd have to install a junction box and outlet.

Pulled the old range (a 1999 Kitchen Aid) into the middle of the kitchen and found the house supply ended in a pigtail outlet. I think the original range (1982) was likely wired directly into the house and when the original range was replaced sometime before 2005 (when I bought the place) they just stuck a free-standing outlet on the end.

After turning off the circuit breakers, I pulled the plug, then taped and painted the wall. While the paint dried, I plugged the old range in and threw on the CBs.

No Joy. Range is displaying a "The power cord is not properly grounded" error code

With a multimeter (NOT LowZ) checked the three prongs (single-phase 240VAC) without a load. Weird readings. Will plug in the range and test with load today. I suspect pulling the outlet across the floor may have compromised its internal connections.

BTW, paint match was a perfect match.

More excitement still to come:
Electrical troubleshooting.
Exhaust hood installation with wiring and ducting through flat TPO membrane roof.

Older houses are a challenge.

I gave the plane a bath today with water. Don’t do it very often, mostly use a glaze to get the bugs off.
It was a good day for it as it was 83* and pretty breezy and that helps dry the plane and towels. It Needed it.
I had to bring my own water to the hanger.

TIL that an ipad can overheat in the sun without even being on.... just sitting in the sun on the pit roof. After cooling off it turned on fine.

I replaced my stove about a year ago, too. It was a house built in the 50's I believe. My intention was similar to yours, to leave the old wiring and in my case replace the 3 wire outlet with a 4 wire. But...I discovered that while all the wiring in the house except the service entrance is copper, this one line from the main panel was aluminum. And it was falling apart. The insulation was dry and crumbling, and the aluminum wire was severely corroded. I replaced the line with copper NM.

Just tossing it out as a possibility. The other, as you noted, is just worn or lose connectors. And it's also possible they ran 3 wires as was common in the old days rather than 3 plus ground for dryers and stoves. To me, if the wires are in good shape the old 3 wire solution is fine but new equipment might not like it.

Agree, older houses are a challenge!

At ORD, its always "weather". Whether you are going to get where you are going, or whether you are going to get stuck? One cloud within 100 miles of the Chicago metro area starts causing delays.
Last night however we had quite the light show outside. A town 30 miles northwest of ORD reported winds of 75mph. Tornado sirens went off where I'm at 20 miles north. Lots of red on the radar

My last time through ORD, as we stepped out of the jetbridge into the terminal, every cell phone in the entire building suddenly went off with an emergency alert, "Sandstorm Warning". First ever "Sandstorm Warning" for the Chicago area, and the first real one I've ever experienced. Needless to say our connection cancelled and we got to spend the night to experience the whole thing.

You don't want to travel with me, things always seem to happen.

Time to spare, go by air!

Last time I was stuck for “weather” at ORD, it was because the weather in Wichita was bad…all of Kansas was clear. “Well, there’s fog between here and there, and they can’t fly through fog.”

And while I’ll admit that it was weather related, I’m pretty sure they just couldn’t get airplanes and/or pilots in the right place. But they chose to lie about it.

Spent the day at SNF having disappointing conversations with AOPA leadership, finding few bargains or show specials on anything I wanted to buy, missing connections with buddies, and looking at a few pretty airplanes.

(BTW - the Sky King Songbird III is for sale.)

They think you should be happy someone was even there to talk to.

Range Saga--Issue solved.

The L1 and L2 lines are copper, the N is aluminum and all are in fine shape.

The issue was a misunderstanding with my Generac wiring. I had a Generac emergency generator installed in February. In case house draw exceeds generator capacity, there are three load managers. They prioritize the three power hogs in the house, range, water heater, and dryer. If draw exceeds capacity they drop out the appliances in a priority order until draw is below capacity.

The clue came when I flipped the range CB on and noticed the a load manager's status LED was blinking. From the blink rate and the manual I found it meant the unit was recoverying from a load shed, i.e. loss of power, i.e., thrown CB. The key was to simply wait 10 minutes until the load manager reset. Why does it take the load manager 10 minutes to reset? I don't know.

Tomorrow, on to the next steps. Today, I'm devoting to editing.

(BTW - the Sky King Songbird III is for sale.found it interesting that Sun n fun went cashless. Asked for the discount for entry ,wanted to pay cash, had to use a credit card ,so they charged 3$ for using the card which they reguired.

Had some whiskey. Unfortunately I didn’t drink it, I wore it….apparently the compass is leaking but only in flight when it’s shaking around a bit.

During my private check ride, the examiner asked me how I would know that the compass is leaking. I almost died, I had heard nothing about this. I sent my brain into hyper mode. I guess the card would be leaning to one side and not turning. The examiner said, ''nope, the fluid would be all over the glare shield''....:idea:Oh snap...

How much you wanna bet he had an applicant show up for a checkride with fluid all over the glareshield?
