What did you do today?

Training session on new rules and equipment for the primary election next month.

Ended lease on a hangar an hour from the house and signed up for one 30 minutes closer. $20 more but a net gain in car gas money and wasted time. Still need to switch c*** from one storage locker to another closer and cheaper.

Helped a neighbor clean out their garages for a couple of TBD new vehicles.

Whittled my to do list by a couple more simple items.

There are two c*** options there. I think I chose the wrong one. But you do you.

How old is too old to be a organ donor?
No such thing. My grandma received a kidney and passed away a couple years later at 60. She was able to donate her corneas. About the only healthy thing she had.

My mom's best friend's husband who ive known my whole life and went to school with his daughter. He's been in the hospital since Christmas and won't leave until he gets a heart. Kind of crappy hoping to live whilst waiting for someone else to die.

I wonder if over eager transplant surgeons sometimes jump the gun?
"He's an old guy without much time left anyway. I know of a young kid who's a good match."

Whatever happened with the old truck?
Just got it into the garage last week. Finally got the granite countertops for the apartment above the garage cut and mounted so was able to get it in. Cousins husband owns a body shop and wants to paint it for her and she wants it red.

Talked on the phone with the man who just started my Annual Inspection. Will meet with him next Tuesday.

Installed a copy of MS Office 2021 on the new laptop, troubleshot an external monitor connection for the Other Person. And by the way you're welcome for the monitor.

:) I'm going to switch this time and be the optimist between us. I don't think that scenario is likely, not because of just the doctors, but because the nursing staff is there, too. They seem to care about everyone, and wouldn't let anything like that happen without reporting it. Just from my experience in having multiple friends and relatives in nursing.

My wife was 71 when she passed. They took her Corneas and would have taken more (like ligament tissues) except she died of Cancer.

The blue loctite gremlins have struck again.

Put away the snowblower (emptied the gas, ran it dry). Saw a brackett lost the bolt... go looking for the blue loctite... @#($&#@. I guess I'll need to get yet another one... to go with the half dozen that around here somewhere )*@#$#!

I'm going to have to put one of the air tag on it...

I also have wondered this since the death of a friend I had known since childhood many years ago. I am no doctor, but I know many of the details of the situation and to say it seemed very “odd” would be an extreme understatement.

Tubes of Loctite probably hang out and party with 10mm sockets and little rolls of Teflon tape.

Finished my Cirrus transition course so a new FR and IPC included - 11 hours of flying and lots of goggle time. Now to get another 14 hours before the end of the month so I get a refund on the insurance upcharge. Thinking lunch on Nantucket for the wife and I have a X/C planned to NC (KTTA) to shoot the southern side-by-side sporting clays competition. That should do it.

Finished installing the hose reel I got for Christmas. The spigot is on the front of the house, and the driveway is on the side, so it was a hassle to get the hose to the car, and a bigger hassle to put it away.

If I need to water something in the front yard, the reel is pointed that out front:

And if someone wants to wash a car, point it towards the driveway:

Two day project, had to wait for the concrete to dry. Nice steel unit, should last a long time, unlike those plastic ones that Lowe's Depot sells.

I think you misread the thread title…it’s not, “what did you do two day?” ;)

Seriously, though, that looks way better than the cheap plastic ones that don’t sit still regardless of whether or not they’re pointed the right direction.

Replaced the coolant overflow hose on dad's old F150 (1996). Apparently rats or squirrels had chewed through it. I'm having problems with the battery, but finally got the truck running and took it for a short drive. The battery isn't holding a charge, so I'll replace it one day this week.

In other news, SWMBO keeps an eye out for standing rib roasts to go on sale around holidays, and she picked some up back at Christmas and again at Easter. For just the two of us, it's nuts to cook an entire rib roast, so we slice them into ribeye steaks. We now have a nice stash of ribeyes in the freezer, as well as the beef ribs we removed from the roasts.

So just after lunch I set up the grill for smoking, got the charcoal going with some apple wood chips for smoke, and put on a half dozen beef ribs. I wiped them down with apple cider vinegar and used some maple smokehouse steak seasoning as a rub. Whenever I opened the grill to add charcoal and wood, I spritzed the ribs down with a little more of the vinegar, then doused them with some bbq sauce for the last hour. Fantastic!

Yesterday: Bought a new electric range--GE Profile. Pulled out the old KitchenAid (about 27 years old and still cooking) in prep for delivery and discovered unpainted wall behind. Got some work to do before delivery.

Why replace a range only 27 years old?
- The dual burner didn't work.
- The actual oven temp was wildly different from the set and indicated temp, and had wide thermostat swings. I had installed a BBQ wireless temp probe in the oven and controlled the actual temp by futzing with the set temp. I bake a lot, so I built a spreadsheet conversion table, but the thermostat swings between heating element on and off were way wide.

Why not simply repair it?
I'm a DIY guy and have enough projects. (Just repaired the washer and the dryer vent.)

Fair enough. I had to repair our washer over the weekend. $10 part and a couple hours of my time saved having to replace the set. I’ll take that deal. After 27 years that old range doesn’t owe you anything any more.

I thought maybe I'd repair my old stove when it died a couple of years ago. @%$#%^ thing had a uP that had failed, and was on an ecapsulated control card. Replacement electronics was about 2/3 the cost of a new stove.

I had the parts store test the battery this morning and it checked out good. Got home, reconnected it, and the truck fired right up. Then I found what had been draining the battery. I just happened to notice a glow around the glove box door, which led me to discover that the glove box door hinge was worn enough that the door wasn't completely depressing the switch plunger when closed. That little lamp isn't much of a load, but the truck sometimes goes weeks or months without use. I used a bit of metal and some double-sided tape to build a little pad to press down the plunger, and now the light goes off. We shall see.

Driving that old truck is a bit of an adventure, somewhat akin to riding a stubborn mule. The suspension is shot, and the steering has lots of play. When it comes time to negotiate a turn, that's exactly what it is: a negotiation. With the steering wheel, I sort of suggest to the truck that I might like to change directions sometime in the next few minutes. The truck makes a counter offer. We discuss the matter a bit, and with some compromises on both sides, the truck will grudgingly begin to drift in the general direction I've suggested, assuming I've done my part with the brakes (gently!) and brought the beast down to a slow walk.

This was my late father's truck (and probably the reason he was often late), which he bought new in 1996. Sometime around 2008 or so, he decided it was time for a new truck and gave this one to me. It became our farm truck, hauling lots of hay and horse feed, as well as my hunting/fishing truck. When @2-Bit Speed reached 16, the truck became the primary training vehicle at Dad's Offensive Driving Academy (school motto: "The best defense is a strong offense!"). He then drove it to his job, to classes at Polk State, got his first speeding ticket in it (quite an accomplishment in that old thing), and went on his first date in it.

Someday, when I no longer need it, it will become his, probably about the time Juliette gets her first pony.
