What did you do today?

Yep. I’ve seen some of the C-40s, they look like just a plain white 737. That’s not to say all of them look that way, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen both USAF and USCG birds that were plain, nondescript airliners. The only thing that made them not look like airliners is the lack of branding.

Of course, then there’s these.

Then, just to drive the point home, I went to a Portillo’s NOT in Chicago, and bought my son a hot dog with nothing but ketchup on it, because FU Chicago.
I commend you on your hatred of Chicago, which I share, but wtf did the hotdog do to you to deserve to have ketchup put upon it?

I think that they were C-40s. They had winglets and high bypass turbofans. Thanks for the ID.

I've always thought it interesting given the "secrecy" around Janet, they use a public airport right on the Vegas strip instead of a secure military base like Nellis. And they are trackable on ADS-B, even though many "routine" military aircraft are not.

Did a short flight with some other pilots for breakfast. Price of gas is keeping us local.

Took the dog on his 3 mile walk (his is more like 4 for him since it's off-leash)
Made moose breakfast sausage
Got the driveshaft back in and filled the transmission on the 52 F1
Assembled and primed the nacelles on a 1/72 Boeing 720
Paid the monthly bills
Ordered pushrods for the R/C ME-109E
Wrestled the patio furniture loose from the snow and had a beer and first fire in the firepit for the year.

Really? Tell me more. I just started getting my stuff (small helis) out of storage.
Just an old house of balsa 1/2A kit a friend gave me and a radio and servos from my Dad. Converting it to electric to make a park flyer out of it. First R/C plane I've built in 40 years but it's been fun.

Cool.

Briefly thought of fiddler on the roof and how much the barn and what is in it in this scene would cost now and thought….”if I was a rich man?”

Answered a phone call from the airport. I was told that after years of being on a vague "waiting list", I finally have a T-hangar of my own instead of sharing a large hangar with 3 other planes. Just gotta wait for the previous occupant to move the last of his junk out and get the key.

The boy wanted some of my old farm toys, which were in deep storage. While I was in there, I stumbled across the binder full of my old "Magic: The Gathering" cards from the mid 90's. I thought they had been either lost or donated. My oldest daughter is into games and wizards and art and whatnot, so I figured she'd enjoy playing.

I remembered having a couple semi valuable ones, so I thought i had better check to make sure we don't tear up a $100 card. Most of them are "newer" (~1995/6) and worth pennies, but the very first ones I bought were 3rd edition (~1993) and generally worth $1-2, with some up to $10.

There's a couple though... holy moly. Apparently they are in demand by competitive players as they are useful and no longer printed. The most expensive goes for about $600 on ebay. Four I have all together should net me about $1000. Crazy. I didn't know it was still such a big deal. Pretty cool for an accidental find.

Selling old cards from childhood to fund your flying addiction...

Flew to Avon Park, FL (KAVO) for lunch at the historic Hotel Jacaranda with our weekly fly-out group. And I’m currently sitting at Fort Pierce (KFPR) 13 miles from home waiting out storms. Took a roundabout route home, got just past KFPR and said “nope”. It feels like summer is starting early this year.

Cool little town, neat old hotel. We drive down there once in a while from Haines City.

You might enjoy this book: https://www.abebooks.com/9780964338845/Floridas-Army-Air-Fields-World-096433884X/plp . Avon Park, Sebring, and many others were WWII training bases. Lots of cool history.

And yeah, spring should be some of our best flying weather, but it feels like summer already. For the past week, we've had a 2500' cloud deck by 10a.m. in Winter Haven. And at the same time, we're not getting rain. Our pasture is so dry the grass crunches when you walk on it.

Got a call from KSGH about a hangar availability coming up and made an appointment to see it. Much closer to my current home base KGDK (which has a several year waiting list) than one I have now to keep my Merlin project.

Went to the hospital in Grants, NM yesterday to get a picture taken of my butt. Ok, MRI of the pelvic area actually, to find out what is causing so much pain.

All I can say is I wish I had a nickel for every 18 wheeler I saw on the interstate.

Then there were the folks with their over loaded 1/2 ton hogging the left lane at 80mph, with their over loaded R/V on the back with the rear bumper on the truck nearly dragging the ground while the front wheels are almost off the ground with the trailer waving from side to side.

If I'm lucky, they were snowbirds leaving Florida for the summer. This is about the time of year when most of them migrate out.

I keep meaning to write to Florida Fish & Wildlife and inquire whether I need a migratory bird permit to shoot snowbirds....

I've seen stuff like this, too. But what stands out to me now is that this kinda sounds like a metaphor for some of the threads on here. I'm going to see if I can use that to help things out a bit.

From my understanding - you don't, but you're not allowed to bait them.

And remember, this is a problem you created. You should never feed migratory animals. It confuses them and causes them to stay longer than they should. :)

This wasn't you was it?IMG_3481.webp

In seriousness I hope it's nothing too major.

My high school music teacher was in that film.

It was to be consumed by a three year old. I don't really eat ketchup on anything, myself - I have yet to find a use for ketchup where BBQ sauce isn't better.

But, it ticks off the Chicagoans like crazy, so it's worth it anyway. :D

Dig around in your old treasures a bit more, and maybe you can fund that finishing kit!

I finally got my own T-hangar instead of the shared hangar I've been in for the past 7 years, and moved my plane and all related junk today. The timing was awesome, as I was just about to put the plane on stands and remove the landing gear for some repairs, which would have made it really difficult to move. Hopefully the previous occupant will be by soon to clear out all of his junk soon, otherwise it'll be mine... ;)

Hmmm bbq sauce on a hot dog sounds interesting
I was always a brown mustard and relish on my hot dog kind of guy, but then I learned that chopped pickled jalapeños are much better than relish on a hot dog.

well, if you need tomato sauce for skunk odor, I'm betting that ketchup would be better than BBQ sauce.
Certainly better to "waste" ketchup than BBQ sauce, but most BBQ sauce uses ketchup as a base... Which I kinda hate. I really need to start working on my own BBQ sauce(s).

some of the seasoning might make using BBQ sauce unpleasant.

Took my family to the Air Zoo at KAZO.

I'd only heard of the place before, I hadn't heard much about it, just knew it existed. I was impressed, and so were my wife and kids! They not only had lots of airplanes (including an SR-71, an F-117, and the only whole Waco CG-4A I've ever seen), they had some really cool engines like the P&W R-4360 Wasp Major (huge!), a J-58, and an early GE attempt at a jet engine that looks WAY different than anything you'll see today.

They also had a whole bunch of space stuff like Mercury and Gemini mockups, and some really cool engines from that side too, including a massive F-1 (Saturn V first stage) and a J-2 (2nd and 3rd stages).

But, the thing that really set them apart is that it's very family oriented. There are aviation-themed carnival type rides, video games, flight simulators, cockpit mockups, etc for the kids to ride, climb on, and play so that they have a positive experience. The gift shop is also one of the best we've seen.

They're also part of the Association of Science and Technology Centers, as is EAA, so if you're an EAA member and live >90 miles away, you get in for free. One of the best EAA member benefits IMO! We also got into the Museum of Science and Industry for free the other day, so the EAA membership definitely paid for itself this year. (Ahem, AOPA - You guys used to be this way too...)

Anyway - Looks like it's a bit over 1.1 hours away via Mooney, so I'm sure we'll be back at some point. Definitely recommend it if you get a chance to go.

Last ski day of the year with M'lady, son, brother, and niece. My son asked if I had an oversized T-shirt to wear since he forgot to bring his Def Leopard XXL up for the weekend. So I broke out the summer shirt storage bag, one thing led to another, and the five of us ended up in Aloha shirts for the day.
