What did you do today?

Went to Barber Motorsports Park, saw the Indy NXT race, the Indycar race, and then stayed for the Porsche Cayman sprint cup race.

There was a flyover before the Indycar race, which is not a surprise, but the flyover consisted of what appears to me as three civilian transport aircraft. I've seen flyovers with military jets, seen RVs flying in formation, but never transport aircraft before.

I thought I had a bird in the garage again. Then I realized that I just needed to oil the door hinges.

That whole complex blew me away, world class facility.
I was wandering around the museum a couple of years ago. I kept texting pictures of motorcycles to my wife. She kept replying with one word, which was "No".

George Barber passed away last month. In his honor, there were parade laps from some of the motorcycles and Lotus racing cars, plus a Porsche 356.

Wrote a check for 2nd quarter hangar lease. I plan to drop it off at the airport office tomorrow.

I think if I tried to fly to that altitude in what I usually fly, I'd have to start my climb here.

The military aircraft *with* guns are probably in the Middle East...

But, the US military does operate a fair number of things that appear to be civilian transport aircraft - That is, they *are* variants of civilian transport category aircraft. I'm assuming you meant large transport jets (of which there are still about 600!) but here's about as complete of a list as I could come up with, totaling 899 aircraft:

Beechcraft/Hawker 400A (127): T-1A Jayhawk (127 USAF)
Boeing 707 (348): E-3B/G Sentry (15 USAF), E-6B Mercury (16 USN), KC-135 Stratotanker (314 USAF), TC-135 Stratolifter (3 USAF)
Boeing 737 (157): C-40A/B/C Clipper (12 USAF, 17 USN, 2 USMC), P-8 Poseidon (126 USN)
Boeing 747 (6) : E-4B Nightwatch (4 USAF), VC-25 "Air Force One" (2 USAF)
Boeing 757 (10): C-32A/B (10 USAF)
Boeing 767 (77): KC-46 Pegasus (77 USAF)
Bombardier Challenger 600 (3): C-143B (3 USAF)
Bombardier Challenger 650 (2): Artemis ISTAR (2 US Army)
Bombardier Global 6000 (11): E-11A (7+4 USAF)
Bombardier Global 6500 (3): ME-11B (3 USAF)
CASA CN-235 (23) : HC-144A/B Ocean Sentry (18 USCG), (5 USAF)
Cessna C560 Citation (38): UC-35B (28 US Army), UC-35D (10 USMC)

Gulfstream V (15): C-37A (12 USAF, 2 USCG, 1 USN)
Gulfstream G550 (9): C-37B (1 USAF, 1 USCG, 3 USN), EA-37B Compass (3 USAF), NC-37B (1 USN)
IAI Astra/Gulfstream G100 (2): C-38A Courier (2 USN)
Learjet 35A (19): C-21A (19 USAF)
Lockheed Electra (7): P-3C Orion (7 USN)

For one thing, renewed my Library Card. Also returned the mini walkie talkie we use at the USAF Museum after I walked out with it clipped to my belt after my shift yesterday. Assorted other errands as required.

Paid my hangar rent.

Learned that SWMBO's Thoroughbred needs dental work. $$$ Spent the afternoon sobbing quietly.

Spread 30 tons of horse manure on my hay fields. Like time and tide, spring waits for no man.

Paid my hangar rent for the second quarter at the airport management office. Then I went to my hangar and cleaned all the miscellaneous stuff out of the cockpit, Next (and lastly) I stopped at the FBO office to give them my logbooks and other paperwork - because the 'Coupe goes into the maintenance hangar on Thursday for Annual Inspection. I'll be out of town - so they will tow my baby to the shop.

Paid bills
Cut the grass and other yard work
Did a three mile walk
Put a new steering damper on the Wrangler
Took care of some bike club business
Made more reservations for RAGBRAI travel and parking

I didn't see any markings on these aircraft. They looked like current airliners without any obvious company markings from what I could see.

Today I learned that last year Trump signed an executive order requiring all USG payouts to be made electronically, rather than by paper check. I opted for a check when I filed my tax return, and today I received an IRS CP53E notice advising me that my refund was being held up because I didn't provide bank account info.

The form doesn't tell you this, but according to https://www.irs.gov/individuals/understanding-your-cp53e-notice , if I don't respond within 30 days they'll cut me a check after another six weeks. No way I'm authorizing the IRS to access my bank account, so I'll just wait it out.

Grumble........

That'll teach you to loan money to Uncle Sam.

tempting fate because I removed my driveway markers.

let it snow, let it snow!

Signed paperwork to sell my share of the Steamboat Condo. Based on this year’s snowfall, it might become more beach than mountain. Time to shed the unit and see what next year brings. Always a possibility of renting..

Went and got checked out in a 182 today. The last 1.5 years has seen a lot of change: a move and purchase of a house, a new job for my wife and a new daughter (now almost a year old!) - so GA has taken a back seat. It feels good to get back on the horse!

Yep. I’ve seen some of the C-40s, they look like just a plain white 737. That’s not to say all of them look that way, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen both USAF and USCG birds that were plain, nondescript airliners. The only thing that made them not look like airliners is the lack of branding.

Of course, then there’s these.

I’m taking my family on something they call a “road trip” wherein one apparently leaves the airplane at home and spends interminable hours in transit so one can see things along the way.

First we went to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Now, I have hated Chicago with the fire of a thousand suns since they tore up Meigs Field the day I soloed, but I paid $0.00 for admission thanks to our family EAA membership.

Thus, instead of spending money in Chicago because of aviation like I would have if Meigs were still around, I avoided spending money in Chicago thanks to aviation.

Then, just to drive the point home, I went to a Portillo’s NOT in Chicago, and bought my son a hot dog with nothing but ketchup on it, because FU Chicago.

Then, we continued on to Indiana, where I realized we’d be in the vicinity of Roselawn, so we stopped briefly to pay our respects.
