What did you do today?

Through a random youtube video I learned that the nasty white "mange" that grows on old clear plastic handled screwdrivers and chisels (old Craftsman, etc.) can be easily removed by soaking in ammonia. Now I have a bunch of shiny clean tools that yesterday I didn't want to even touch.

Did a longer flight today with my O2 setup at 13k. Got the Seneca up to 165 knots. I know. Still slow.
:) It flies faster than the Vne of what I normally fly. And has a WAY better range than what I fly when we both lose an engine.

Fell for a sensational news link today for the first time ever. I saw this headline saying "MASS CASUALTY EVENT AT BYRON/OGLE NUCLEAR STATION" from a credible-ish news source (that plant is by me).
I immediately clicked on the link to discover it's a chemical exposure of some kind, but not a nuclear event. Doesn't have more detail, but I'm hoping no one was seriously injured. They said no fatalities. IDK.

But I briefly thought - if it was a nuclear event near me... What would I do? That's right, I'd be driving to my airplane and flying up-wind faster than you can say "Strontium-90".

but only if it's VMC

There was a thread on here recently discussing which firearm would be appropriate to show the daughter's new boyfriend. I'm thinking that bandsaw wins over anything I own.
We should take a walk....In the front of the shop we've got a 12' press brake capable of bending 1/2" steel plate 90 degrees. One time an employee had to loosen the top die to slide a different die in. Only he loosened it too much and had it in the up position. When he went to slide it, the several hundred pound die fell out of the holders crushing and breaking his thumb.

Just feet away we have a Cincinnati 2512 shear. Built 5/21/1947. Will shear 3/8 steel 12' long right half in two right now. Mechanical shear puts out a wallop. Stick your finger past the guard...bye bye. An employee couldn't stick his fingers far enough to get to the knife blades. But the hold downs are still forceful. The pucks clipped the tips of his middle and index fingers as he was aligning a cut and pushed the pedal himself.

In the back we've got the iron worker that cuts and shears round bar, square bar, angle and flat stock. It can also punch up to 1-5/8 diameter holes in 3/4 steel plate. Its hydraulic and would be a much slower but equally painful way to lose a digit. I personally accidentally misadjusted the stops on the punch side. The top die buried into the bottom die before it hit the return stroke. Die literally exploded in my face. A piece of shrapnel embedded into my bicep.

Also have a plate roller. Lathe. Bridgeport. And quite possibly the largest rosebud torch ever made. Puts out a flame 2' long...in case he's feeling chilly.

Another nice easy day in Florida, did an early morning walk, then breakfast with a friend at the local diner. Getting taxes ready. Topped off the car before today’s gas price increase.

Enjoyed the winter weather here in Carolina doing a bit of yard work. It was ~90ºF ...

Another day another auction.

Scored a 5'x10' x 1.5" thick steel fixture bench. The fixture clamps went for more than I can buy them new.

Then spent way too much money on a 5' wide plate roller.

The same model saw I bought yesterday sold for more than double with a buyer's premium 6% higher.

Hadn't flown for ten days, so this morning I took Milady up for a while. No real objective, just enjoyed flying around a bit. I continue to be pleased with the OH; the engine is running sweet and the plane flies quite nicely.

We usually have many days of beautiful flying weather this time of year, but it seems to have become hot early and we're getting lots of low clouds. I feel a bit like the guy who stood with his feet in a bucket of ice water and his head in a hot oven. On average, he was perfectly comfortable. Just a couple of weeks ago we had lows near freezing, and this week the temps are around 90.

Started working on the tax return this afternoon. It's become a PITA compared to pre-retirement days, as now income is from a bunch of different sources instead of a simple paycheck. By dinner time I'd had enough for one day. I'll probably finish it up tomorrow.

Booked a flight for Monday morning into Fort Lauderdale to pick my saw up in Miami. Not really looking forward to the 1450 mile drive back home.

Picked up my other winnings. No clue where I'm going to put them

What, it won't fit in the Six?

Flew a jet into the FBO where I did my primary flight training 23 years ago.
This you?

Was there much damage to the building.??
ahh you beat me to it

What did I do today? Today marks day 12 since I last flew an airplane. Booked my return flight for dropping plane off at annual.

Me as well. Until I saw it was 32* out. Yesterday it was in the 80’s. 32 ain’t a deal breaker but with 30mph winds, no thanks.
I haven't flown since my plane went in for annual Friday of last week. I found out Monday that my rear spar attachment bolt was loose and had moved around enough to wallow out the hole to the point that it's too big to be reamed and bushed. The part is cheap enough, but it's going to involve peeling back the upper wing skin to buck the rivets, so I'm going to be down at least another week, probably more. :(

dang it.

Not sure I'm ready to hash it out on here. When the mechanic gets to the plane we'll see exactly what happened. Pitot-static issue of sorts.
Glad you're on the ground and wondering about it, as compared to still up in the air wondering about it.

Me, I'm having leftover Chinese for lunch, with added Sriracha because I love our take out place but they don't do heat.
