What did you do today?

It used to be that going into Canada you got the same four questions (where ya from, where ya goin', whatcha doin', got any guns on ya, have a good trip, eh?) and coming back in it was a quick look at a drivers license and "welcome home." Not so much any more.
I remember those days. Didn’t get the gun question, probably because I was flying commercial.

Certainly a 700 then . Heck it was old when I flew it years ago.
Well, they're all old now! Only 48 were built, between 2006-2013. The 700 was produced from 1977-84.

Really enjoying hearing about your journey!
Hmmm. Maybe I should start a thread.

Well, today I sat in a classroom yet again. Spent the whole day on performance and weight and balance. Those silly Brits do things a bit different.

Got another bit of time in the sim today. They still haven't turned on the motion because we're technically not supposed to be in the sim yet, we're supposed to be stuck with the "Home Depot sim" I mentioned in another thread which is just cockpit posters mounted on wood and essentially worthless. Thanks to my times being late at night we've been able to get in the sim without motion and work on the procedures in there, and that has made all the difference in the world.

The first "real" sim session is next week, and one instructor said "If you get off the ground in the first sim, you're doing really well." Today, myself and each of my two co-workers all did the full startup from cold to takeoff and then shutdown from after landing to dark and cold again, all between 30-35 minutes each, so we should have no problem getting flying in during the first 2-hour (each) sim session, so I feel pretty good about that. On the flip side, I can't believe that anyone manages to pass a checkride with only six actual sim sessions!

Channeled my childhood of tinkertoys, lincoln logs and erector sets. My wife got me a set for Christmas and just finished the crane. Directions sketchy, had to fab some parts at the end and scrounge some bolts and nuts. I think that this is a one and done.

What I did this morning.

I woke up. Then went in to take a shower. When I turned on the water I got a small trickle, then nothing. Frozen.

So I got dressed. Then went out to the pump house. There I found the electric heater. It is not working.

Next I got my new charcoal grill. The one that replaced the rusted, old and falling apart grill that someone stole.

I put charcoal in the grill, then charcoal lighter fluid, and a lit match. My eye brows should grow back in about a month.

30 minutes later we have water again.

I took a hammer and hit the top of the electric heater. It puts out heat again.

Then I went inside and had lunch. Meatloaf.

Did some aluminum fabrication. Guy wants a pair of swing-out doors with windows to be mounted just forward of the (opaque) ramp door on his snowmobile trailer, so it can be used as a heated hangout/viewing box during his kids' races.

He's going to let me use his '57 172 for CFI training if I can pull this off. Better bring my A game.

Started reading 'Map of my Dead Pilots' by Colleen Mondor. It's alright, not as engaging as the last book.

Mrs. Fast and I flew up to Georgia to have lunch with @SkyChaser and @2-Bit Speed and celebrate their birthdays. On the way up, we flew at 4500’ and 5500’ above some scattered puff balls. When it was time to go home, they’d turned into a ceiling at about 3500’ so we bumped along in chop at 2500’ all the way back.

A nice day, and great to see the two of them. SWMBO and I can’t wait to meet our upcoming granddaughter!

Sat in a classroom for the 7th day in a row. Today, we started "initial recurrent." We've gone through all the systems once, now we're going through abnormal and emergency scenarios. It's literally the recurrent training content. Cool to see what we'll be in for on the next trip.

I helped a buddy from work change out the oil filter and cooler housing on my truck. Who could have imagined that a plastic oil filter/cooler mounted to the aluminum engine would be prone to cracking and leaking oil?

“We” replaced it with an aluminum after market one. I mostly passed tools and held the work light since he knew what he was doing and I didn’t.

I attended a hangar tenants meeting at Salisbury, MD Airport (SBY). This is a nice regional airport, with two regional carriers, and an active GA population. Interesting info this morning - there is a lot going on with airport growth and development. I also heard they have a couple of hangars available.

But no flying today. Low IFR conditions in low ceilings and rain.

I didn’t do anything, I sat on my couch, halfway watching tv, watching some YouTube videos on my phone, and exchanging some text messages with some old friends while sipping PBR s all day. It felt great.

I watched an arse whooping
The kids fighting at the Hershey bears game? That was awesome.... Until the goalie took it too far.

Looks at Rangers score....ohhhhhhhhh

the goalie steam rolling at 1:09 is the best

He also super man dives into the pile at 39 seconds. Skates up. His teammate almost took one to the jugular. The best is a few seconds later where teammates are beating on EACHOTHER

I just don’t get hockey. So you opponent has a really skilled guy? Well, just pummel him until he’s concussed six ways to Sunday! Win!

actually I think you have quite a solid grasp on the game!

As a sometimes Pittsburgh Penguin and Sid Crosby fan, my comment resonates. I don’t know how many times he’s had to sit out a large portion of the season because some other teams goons beat the feces out of him.

That’s because Cindy Crosby is a whiny little sensitive dirty beeyotch that people love to hate. He’s a good player but really he can go puck off. Loved the completely legal hit Trouba put on him a coupl’a years ago that he and all pittsburgh fans cried about. Refs hate him too.

Don’t hold back, dude, tell us how you feel!

I remember seeing a couple of games many moons ago, cindy got slashed on the wrist and went down like he was shot. Ray Bourque was slashed on the wrist and he finished the shift with a broken wrist (iirc).

Tom Brady was a whiny little beeyotch as well. Maybe we should have just let an opposing DL pound his head into the ground after the play was over. I mean, why not? If you don’t have skill, just take out the other team’s skill.

Again, don’t get hockey.

it's actually pretty rare for a team to "take out" someone's super star intentionally. there will be consequences for doing that. hockey ain't like it used to be. as for brady, I can promise you there was ALWAYS 11 guys looking pound him into the ground every. single. play.

As a Hawks fan. Bedard has some Cindy in him. A bit whiny and often targeted.

It's called finishing your check. The skill players aren't going to catch a break...it's not often you're gonna square up mcdavid so better eliminate him from the play if you can.

It’s a contact sport, it’s not figure skating
