What did you do today?

I really didn't need a high res photo of that delicious brown right at the onset of Dry January.

Ran the Polar Opposite of Peachtree 10K road race, along with my elder daughter.

For many years, the Atlanta Track Club has been organizing the Peachtree Road Race on July 4th, which starts in the Buckhead area of north Atlanta, and finishes in Piedmont Park, in the Midtown district. Starting last year, they've added this race, which starts in Piedmont Park and ends in Buckhead. The summer race features the three H's, which are heat, hills, and humidity. Today's race still had the hills and humidity, but at the start it was about 50 degrees. 7232 runners finished this race, where the summer race has more than 40,000.

Got my new-to-me seat installed on my new-to-me bike.

Shout-out to @wanttaja for helping me with the long distance acquisition…thanks again, Ron! (Obviously it arrived earlier than expected.)

Also checked out my Christmas present from my wife (she got one, too.)

Damn, the glitter bomb must have misfired.

The seller was interesting... he saw the Veteran license plate on my car, so we swapped stories. He had been a snipe on a guided missile cruiser.

Showed me his stationary bike, with "RANS" branding very visible. He was aware of the company's aviation endeavors. Had a TV screen in front displaying the track, could race folks from all over the world. Combination FPS and Richard Simmons setup.....

Went to an airport far away. Got treated like crap. Got on someone else's airplane with a whole lot of other people. It was huge, and it sounded funny. Really whiny. Seats were really uncomfortable too, but at least a nice lady brought me a snack and a drink. People didn't seem to really like flying, they just watched videos and stuff the whole time.

Then I calculated that if I'd left home at the same time and flown myself, from my own airport, I would have arrived at the destination shortly before the big plane took off. Really not worth all that effort of traveling to a big airport with big planes!

Were the people wearing pajamas and/or belly shirts?

Watched the FedEx truck with my eagerly awaited package drive past my house after they swore it was being delivered today.

Watched the FedEx tracking claim it was coming "Between 10:15 and 2:00"... then, mid-afternoon, "Today"... then "Your package is still on the way and we’re actively working to get you a new delivery date."

Jackasses.

Got in 4 approaches in actual IMC. Also had my first diversion to an alternate due to lack of a nighttime approaches at my home drone; missed sunset “by that much”. Fortunately, my alternate was in my home town.

Flew a kid and his mom to Rochester, MN to go to Mayo Clinic. Wound up shooting an ILS to a 300' ceiling.

Hopped into the ($85!!!) Lyft with them, and was glad I did. Place is mind boggling.

Got a haircut, then some mx on the Wrangler.

Changed the transfer case fluid, then rotated the tires, checking brake pad thickness, rubber brake hose condition, and general leak inspection on all four corners. All good!

Then went out for a 3mi walk.

What mount does the Aera use? Is it still easily removable?
Following up, although it's been a while; we've been in Germany for a while and today was my first day back out to the airport. The Area 760 is in the Garmin Aviation Mount (aera® 760) bare wires cradle and is one-button removable. I brought the 760 home today to add it to our OnePak in ADBM and update all the databases. At the next rollover, I'll see if if the databases propagate across from the GTN. Large learning curve with interconnectivity of GI-275/GTN/Area 760 since it's not really documented well anywhere.

Since the 760 is on the co-pilot panel and next the a GI-275 PFD, it's great for a safety pilot/CFI/CFII, but flight plan changes from the 760 to the GTN won't work although GP or FF will push to the GTN which is supposed to push to the Area 760. I'll have to test that later this month. Right now this plane is grounded since the EIS is not getting solid data from the GEA24. Our A&P is learning the hard way to work directly with Garmin instead of trying to figure it out himself.

If you ever get the chance, go to west bend iowa and take the tour of “the grotto of the redemption”. I am not a really “churchy” guy, but to say that it will leave anybody who sees it awestruck and humbled when they learn how it was built is an understatement. Pictures and videos cannot do it justice.

Sat in a classroom. Drank from a firehose. Might even remember a thing or two. Sat in a fake airplane. Learned and ran flows and checklists for two hours, but didn't even move. 14.5 hours later, it's time for bed!

Luckily, we were late enough that the instructor put us in a real sim instead of a paper tiger, which helped immensely with understanding things - Seeing responses to the switches flipping, and getting system failures during tests, is way better than the procedures trainer which was build with posters and lumberyard materials.

Spent Sunday afternoon, yesterday, and today patching drywall cracks and painting at church…letting the last coat of mud dry now, and then I’ll roll the rest of the paint.

I’ve got a roller extension that reaches up to the peak, but the lady who’s doing the cutting in climbs the 13-foot ladder with a brush taped to the end of a stick.

Initial break in of the new cylinders. We got a rebuild from AeroTec back in October. Broke it in and while oil consumption dropped quickly to normal we never got CHTs anywhere below 400 consistently and that was with pretty cool weather. Borescoped it and lot of striations in all cylinders. Word from them is Lycoming has had a run of bad ones. A year wait for IO-360 cylinders from Lycoming right now which points to significant corporate issues in my mind. However AeroTec offered up Millenniums asap. Agreed, and they shipped them overnight. Not sure its solved our issue but they were much better and kudos to AeroTec for stepping up and making it right and it not costing us anything.

More snow moving in tonight so good to get it done. Alton Bay is to the right side of the lake behind the hill. 8-11" of ice on it right now so if nothing changes the B18 ice runway (2900' this year) will be open soon. Will it be before my knee replacement? Doubt it.

Hope the procedure was successful, and Sue is back in top form

Took down all the outdoor Christmas decorations, failing once again to plummet to my death from the top of the ladder. SWMBO packed up the living room, but we still need to de-decorate the family room and take down the tree.

Well, so that is that

Well, so that is that. Now we must dismantle the tree,
Putting the decorations back into their cardboard boxes -
Some have got broken - and carrying them up to the attic.
The holly and mistletoe must be taken down and burnt,
And the children got ready for school. There are enough
Left-overs to do, warmed up, for the rest of the week -
Not that we have much appetite, having drunk such a lot,
Stayed up so late, attempted - quite unsuccessfully -
To love all our relatives, and in general
Grossly overestimated our powers. Once again
As in previous years we have seen the actual Vision and

failed
To do more than entertain it as an agreeable
Possibility, once again we have sent Him away
Begging though to remain His disobedient servant,
The promising child who cannot keep His word for long.

Same stuff, different day, getting more comfortable. Might actually survive this course!

Sitting in a hospital waiting area 6+ hours and counting for Sue to have a heart ablation procedure for afib. A LOT of things I’d rather be doing than this.
Good luck Lance (and Sue!). My mom has had two ablations now, one 7 years ago and one a few months ago. Even in that timeframe, the technology and technique of the ablation has completely changed, from effectively a branding iron to, uh, something with magnets I think. Results have been great, the repeat was due to severity I guess... And because my mom refuses to slow down!

If it's already helped, that's wonderful... The new technique supposedly gets more effective over time instead of less like the old technique as I understand it, so I hope Sue's results continue to improve as well and that we'll see you both at Gaston's 2026!
