What did you do today?

Cussed at the nasty WX that’s keeping me on the ground. So, picked up my phone and did a bit of day trading.

end of month, end of quarter, end of year tax payments/filings for the Church. <sigh>

ok, I'm not done with the W3/W2/1099 stuff yet... but I might get back to it later today.

Finished reading “The Rifle 2,” a Christmas gift from my in-laws. It’s got a different flavor than the first one for reasons that he mentions at the end, but it’s also probably not going to give me nightmares like the first one did.

Overall, I recommend them both.

CAVU, 79F today. Took the plane up for a while, just to practice maneuvers (been a while) and do a little local sightseeing. Great flight, decent landing.

Then spent an hour at the phone store getting a failed SIM card replaced. Grumble....

u hit SN brewery yet? pireps please. not sure what they do or don't do over the winter, ie music etc...
Went Saturday. Didn't have music when I was there. I did see something about music but didn't pay much attention to when. Was very unplanned and last minute. There was a 90 minute wait. I'm not a big beer guy. My sister is the connoisseur, but she's not big on SN apparently. Cool lookin place. Didn't do a tour. The duck fries were great. Pizza...I've had worse for more money.

Saw dogs in one area, not sure if that's a thing or not. Weimeraner looked very uncomfortable with the little dog next to it

Sat on an airplane for 3 hours waiting for a comedy of errors to resolve. Bathrooms were frozen (as if these planes have never seen 10 degrees before), waited forever for pushback, then de-ice, then their GPS failed, then we didn't have enough gas so back to gate. People got off. Gas was given. Somehow got United to find me the last seat out of Denver since I missed my connection. Finally arrived at middle of nowhere South Dakota four hours late.

Did deskwork all morning; spending money so I don't have to give it to uncle Sam.

At noon, Teresa's parents, aunt &uncle, cousins, and their 7 kids came over to decorate cookies. That's 12 kids total if you're counting.

Unfortunately, I couldn't join in as I had a pressing need to haul corn to town all afternoon.

Did you “really need to” or did you “need to” to get away from the noise and commotion of a house full of in-laws and loud other people’s kids ;)?

Started my day out trying to drive through a blizzard during a lull in the wind at 6:00 am. Made it 3/4 of a mile not much faster than idle being able to see about fifteen feet infront of my pickup when the wind got stronger and full white out conditions again so I backed up the 3/4 mile with my drivers door open and looking at the ground to see the edge of the road taking advantage of the truck itself blocking the wind so I could see about ten feet of the edge of ditch. Despite my grove blocking some of the wind I missed seeing my driveway, but luckily saw a field entrance that boarders the edge of property to get my bearings again then made it back to the house. About an hour to go a mile and a half. I had to wait until the the sun started giving light to try it again. By then the wind had calmed a bit, but the drive was still pretty sketchy. Gotta love agriculture, animals don’t take a day off.

After letting the unread email languish in my inbox for three years, I finally sat down today and did all the youth protection training modules for the Boy Scouts of America Scouting America, then put together my application to become a merit badge counselor for Aviation, Automotive Maintenance, Composite Materials, Farm Mechanics, Truck Transportation, and Welding. I absconded with my Eagle badge in 2003 and never looked back, time to repay my debt to the organization.

Flew with family to Tampa for ReliaQuest Bowl game. Went to parade. Ate at great little Italian restaurant. Couldn’t go this without plane. Now Vandy needs to win tomorrow.

Great pic, glad you’re enjoying family time!

Decided 15g33 with mountain obscuration and icing enroute and snow predicted by the time we would have landed after bucking 40 knot head winds wasn't gonna work. Decided to leave plane in AVL for a few days and fly back Saturday. Booked a flight out of AVL to CLT to Chicago. Made it to Charlotte. 45 minutes before boarding to go home... Flight home delayed 8 hours.

If they aren’t claiming weather, they owe you a hotel. But it’s winter and ORD, so odds are they are blaming weather.

Well, he canceled his own planned flight due to weather, so wouldn’t that mean he owes himself a hotel?

Rubbing salt in the wound. May as well salt up a glass and get a margarita or 4.

By the time I get a hotel and play the airport shuttle game to get back to board at 5:30am (hopefully). I'd get 2 hours of sleep.

on a more positive note: another day of od'ing on college football.

Sorry to hear... It's not fair that dogs are only here for such a short period of time.

She kinda looks like you, or rather looks like your profile pic a bit.

:yeahthat:

I've come to understand my dad's perspective. He always loved dogs, and we always had one or two when I was growing up. While I was away at college, he had to have our last dachsund put down, and after that he never had another dog. He told me, "No more dogs. You love them and become attached to them, and then you have to have them killed. I'm tired of going through that. No more dogs."

After putting our Doberman down a few weeks ago, I can understand how he felt. I'm sure we'll have another dog someday, but not right now. The heartache is too much.

It took a long time before I was ready for another pet friend in my life, after my last cat passed after 22+ years.

For those who are still grieving:

Dogs Never Die

Some of you, particularly those who think they have recently lost a dog to “death”, don’t really understand this. I’ve had no desire to explain, but won’t be around forever and must.

Dogs never die. They don’t know how to. They get tired, and very old, and their bones hurt. Of course they don’t die. If they did they would not want to always go for a walk, even long after their old bones say:” No, no, not a good idea. Let’s not go for a walk.” Nope, dogs always want to go for a walk. They might get one step before their aging tendons collapse them into a heap on the floor, but that’s what dogs are. They walk.

It’s not that they dislike your company. On the contrary, a walk with you is all there is. Their boss, and the cacaphonic symphony of odor that the world is. Cat poop, another dog’s mark, a rotting chicken bone ( exultation), and you. That’s what makes their world perfect, and in a perfect world death has no place.

However, dogs get very very sleepy. That’s the thing, you see. They don’t teach you that at the fancy university where they explain about quarks, gluons, and Keynesian economics. They know so much they forget that dogs never die. It’s a shame, really. Dogs have so much to offer and people just talk a lot.

When you think your dog has died, it has just fallen asleep in your heart. And by the way, it is wagging it’s tail madly, you see, and that’s why your chest hurts so much and you cry all the time. Who would not cry with a happy dog wagging its tail in their chest. Ouch! Wap wap wap wap wap, that hurts. But they only wag when they wake up. That’s when they say: “Thanks Boss! Thanks for a warm place to sleep and always next to your heart, the best place.”

When they first fall asleep, they wake up all the time, and that’s why, of course, you cry all the time. Wap, wap, wap. After a while they sleep more. (remember, a dog while is not a human while. You take your dog for walk, it’s a day full of adventure in an hour. Then you come home and it’s a week, well one of your days, but a week, really, before the dog gets another walk. No WONDER they love walks.)

Anyway, like I was saying, they fall asleep in your heart, and when they wake up, they wag their tail. After a few dog years, they sleep for longer naps, and you would too. They were a GOOD DOG all their life, and you both know it. It gets tiring being a good dog all the time, particularly when you get old and your bones hurt and you fall on your face and don’t want to go outside to pee when it is raining but do anyway, because you are a good dog. So understand, after they have been sleeping in your heart, they will sleep longer and longer.

But don’t get fooled. They are not “dead.” There’s no such thing, really. They are sleeping in your heart, and they will wake up, usually when you’re not expecting it. It’s just who they are.

I feel sorry for people who don’t have dogs sleeping in their heart. You’ve missed so much. Excuse me, I have to go cry now.

:) I've had ice, just a tiny bit, on a non-fiki airplane. I'm not putting flying through ice on any of my goals. I admit to being a big baby about some things.
