What did you do today?

1. Went to the gym, showered and re-band aided my owie finger. Long story - BBQ, knives and alcohol were involved.

2. Managed to eat two lettuce wrapped burgers mostly one handed.

3. Actually that is pretty much it. I might go to the pub later.

Watched my sons shoot the Estes rocket kits they put together yesterday. Three successful launches and recoveries ( the wind started to pick up and cut the day short, the third recovery was 1/4 mile away in a plowed field, I can’t believe we found it). But they had a great time.

Cooked pancaked for the grandkids. Ran the mower with its new mulching kit over a fresh layer of leaves, which proved a lot easier and quicker than the usual means of keeping them from killing grass over the winter. Got a couple of NY strip steaks in the fridge waiting to go into the smoker, trying something new with them. Before it's time to get that process started, I'm about to fire up my pipe and enjoy (I hope) a rare bowl of a commercially produced aromatic.

Shot 16 panels. Twice. Hope the HOA is happy since they got what they asked for.

Cleaned up the hangar and then used the last of this season's Dungeness crab to make the annual pot of Kick'n Crab Corn Chowder. Its become a family tradition to freeze a half pound or so of the season's crab to make chowder on a nasty weather weekend sometime after the end of the season and before the holidays.

Practiced commercial manuevers in the Sky Chicken. Retrofitted a farm building from 8ft fluorescents to 4ft LEDs. Up and down up and down up and down... ladders, chandelles, scaffolding, steep spirals. I'm tired.

Spending a few days at a Beach House on Lake Erie. Howling wind outside with whitecaps on the Lake. View attachment 147246
That scene makes me wish I was there. Put on a few layers of wool sweaters clamp down the hatch covers and take my old 23’ oday out for a sail. Strong winds, rolling waters… a 1/2 to 3/4 furled mainsail and a 1/4 jib would probably get it to hull speed, the rolling waves give the chance of it breaking out of its bow wave if timed right and not diving the bow, then it really starts to move.

Spent 45 minutes at the airport tying up loose ends after the condition inspection. Still to do (tomorrow?) is about a dozen cowl fasteners, and reattach the aileron trim knob. Probably need to add air to the tires too. Then paperwork...

Fell through one of the pool chairs. You know how it goes, your butt goes through the nylon fabric and your knees fold up to your chest and your kid points and laughs. They try to pull you up and out of the hole in the chair, but that only works if they're really strong. If they're not strong enough, they have to tip you over and pull the chair off of you. I had to be tipped over.

Chairs that baked in the florida sun for who knows how many years, are now getting brittle in the frigid winter mornings here in Virginia, it seems.

Flew with my CFI, landed and saw about six missed calls. Had to go rescue one of our route drivers after the starter motor on the Isuzu NPR died. Had a cool (read: lazy) idea for securing my load. Truck didn't fall off the gooseneck so I guess I'll be banking this one in the bag of tricks.

1. Nobody showed up this morning at 5 to open the gym. The exit door does not have a handle on it, but you can grab it by a small lip on the top of the door. Sometimes it gets left unlocked. It swung open easily. A crowd of angry people suddenly became happy people.

2. Watched a 48 Hours presentation on the Jon Benet Ramsey case while doing cardio on the stationary bike. The Denver PD were portrayed to be real bozos in the investigation. A good case was made that they were.

3. Drove to the office on the section of the 50 that probably holds the world's record for the longest and slowest road improvement project.

4. The guy that they let work from home in Hawaii is here for a week. He traded his old Audi for a new Audi. That he drives for exactly two weeks a year when he's visiting.

5. Started to review some plan sheets then got distracted by Facebook reels depicting middle aged Thai women flashing their undies as they pretend to do something productive. Exactly why I get those feeds is baffling. For the record, I do not search the Internet for "middle aged Thai women flashing their undies."

6. --------) is the symbol for single line small pipe downturn or side turn. Actually a dashed line indicates obscuration but I can't easily draw a solid line. I encountered --------( )----------- and wondered how the elbow symbols got reversed. Then I realized the two chemical tanks were swapped from their original positions.

7. It's check signing day tomorrow. But I came in today because I have to be somewhere close by later on. Normally the checks are waiting for me when I arrive in the morning, meaning they were put there the previous day. So, hopefully they can get produced before I leave today.

8. I HATE going in the bathroom and finding the toilet seat lid down. Because, you never know what you are going to find when you lift it.

Got a call from the insurance company to be added as an additional insured. Might be cheaper to finally get that instrument rating

Spent today and every day this week counting Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes and squashing them into cartons. Tomorrow ends this year’s collection week.
The church I attend ran out of boxes this year. The youth director and some of the kids went to other churches to beg a few more.

Did a 35mi bike ride this morning, did the hopefully fungal grass cut/trim/leaf blow off the season, then a nice shower, now I’ll grab a cold one and watch some college hoops.

Put valve stem extenders on my twin tandem gooseneck trailer. Shoot me now

Yesterday: Vacuumed up and bagged a couple hundred pounds of leaves from the back yard. I’ll probably dump one or two bags of the now shredded leaves on my planters, the rest will be picked up.

Today: Put up a 2-bike storage pole in the garage to make it easier to get the bikes in and out, and save some floor space. Pretty nice solution.

Pro tip: you don't have to use oh-fish-uhl OCC shoeboxes. Any shoebox, or similar size plastic box, is just fine.

Finished our OCC shoebox collection and sent our box truck to Lakeland to transfer the cartons into semis, which will head to Atlanta tonight or tomorrow.

Picked up my plane from the paint shop (Ace in Bartow) after some warranty work to touch up a few spots.

Looks like the weather here will soon be turning "****ty flying weather" which others call "winter". So I took the RV-10 up for a flight. Circled the scene where this <see below> went down about 50 years ago. Imagine landing a DC-4/C-54 in 1200 feet, over trees, at night, and on a freshly graded strip. And the airplane being intact and usable again. I was about 10 when it happened. Big story here in a semi rural area in NW Georgia.

Took the ‘Coupe up for run around our Young Eagles Route. Last nice day for a week or so (snow, rain, low ceilings, front passage, ad nauseam).

Apparently I need to replace the battery in the intercom box since I had to use the handheld backup for the first time. Sporty’s PS2. The built in headphone jacks are very nice.
