What did you do today?

Wrestled with three AI (make that Real Stupid or RS) phone bots over errors in medical billing and car registration renewal.

I have hoped to live another few more years but this type of s*** makes it less desirable with each passing phone call to a non person.

OTOH I have been trying for a week to request a tree removal permit from the county using a website designed by a 7th grader. Each time, I go through multiple data entry and validation screens, then hit Submit and get the always helpful "technical issue, try again later" message. At this point I would love me some AI help.

Oomph. At that point I think buying a chainsaw is only tree removal permit I'd need to continue.
Something, something about forgiveness being easier than permission :)

You need a permit to take down your own tree? Yeeesh. I should probably be on death row by now...

Perfect plan. Come to Florida, leave your money, go home.
;)
It's worth it to get out of Chicago winters.

With the Busch clash coming back to Daytona (because of days of thunder filming). Think it might be the perfect time to get that ases I've been dragging my feet on. Usually fly into FIN and there's apparently someone on field at FIN.

I lived in a small town for about 4 years after college. From that, I learned that I cannot live in town. Honestly where I'm at now is too close to civilization. Ideally you should be able to pee on any part of your property without risking a chat with authorities.

In FL helping my parents clean out their house to move to an independent living apartment in the same community. Dear god is it hot here.
I’ve been doing that the last few weeks too. Thankfully she had thinned things in the house but there is still more to go

I do that daily.

When I was a wee lad. I'd come home from school and throw my backpack as far as I could down the hill on dad's driveway (as seen in post #1 of this thread). I then would high tail it to a tree large enough to hide a small child relieving himself. Or so I thought.

A family friend i just ran into for the first time in years would get stuck behind my bus every day. He'd see me chuck the back pack in order to take a leak. He was laughing his ass off telling me the story. He knew what was up.

Sounds good in theory but I forsee issues indoors.

Nauga,
whose property is well-marked
"Able to" does not mean "have to" There's a lot of places around here I could pee, but choose not to. My 9 YO son's list is MUCH shorter than mine.

Yes, it is. Please spread the word. Help everyone understand that Florida is much too hot a place to live and they shouldn’t even consider it.

Which part of hell-on-earth are your parents in?
Sun City Center just south of Tampa. My grandparents moved here in 1966 so I’ve seen a lot of changes as we’ve visited over the years. I can’t come up with a single good one.

I was born in Florida in 1961. The only good changes I’ve seen have been tornadoes leveling blighted trailer parks.

Ironically this morning I was driving home and passed a stopped county double dump truck (dump truck pulling a dump trailer) working on the gravel road as he was stopped and “relieving “ himself on the side of the road. ( corn fields and blind corners), he waved.. so it’s all good. When you gotta go, you gotta go

Yesterday I found out that mag inspection times are atrocious right now. I want my plane back.
Curious: Who is inspecting the mags, and how long are they quoting? I've used G&N in Indiana twice now for 500-ish hour inspections, and they've been quick.

Would there ever be a time where you’d have a regular A&P do the 500 hour mag check?

Poplar Grove quoted me 2 to 3 weeks yesterday. The last time I sent them it was 3 days.
When G&N did mine it was similar, a couple of days. I wonder if they're now in the same boat as poplar with a longer lead time to get to the work.

My local shop did some special certification work specifically to be able to work on magnetos and repair/overhaul them (I don't know what the shop cert is). I remember the owner's son telling me they had to write a bunch of detailed process documentation in a manual established for their shop, and then go through a somewhat arduous and time-consuming process to get it approved so that they could work on them. Magnetos specifically.

After they racked up some experience I'd be willing to give them a shot. But given that G&N and Poplar Grove are both nearby + good reputation shops that do this stuff all day, every day -- the sales pitch from my local shop would have to be compelling ($$).

Most ap's I think shy away from that work. Could they? Sure. But mine sends them to poplar grove as well.

Dad had a mag start doing some wonky things and I bought him a surefly getting installed now. No more impulse coupling ad to worry about.

Edit: ^^ wins by the way.

Ordered some Preparation H.

Okay, let me explain. On my new laptop (I've had it a few months) the h key started acting up. So, I ordered a wireless keyboard, since I mainly use it as a desktop anyway and that would be an asset. Actually the key was slightly stuck and it's working okay now. But, I still want the keyboard. It will make for a slicker, more functional desktop setup.

I also got a twelve pack of Ultra (I know, ****water, don't hate on me) and a Digorno Rising Crust Supreme (again, don't hate on me they aren't that bad.)

I also cleaned the litter box. Jeez, how one of these cats could pass a three-inch diameter bomb is beyond me, but there were several within a two day period.

I got so frustrated with AT&T yesterday that I yelled "JUST LET ME TALK TO A ****ING HUMAN THEN!" at the AI robot. It said "We're sorry, AT&T does not accept that kind of language. Goodbye."

It's not like I was gonna yell at the human that way. These AI robots are such snowflakes. (And even though I've been an AT&T customer for 20 years, they're on thin ice.)

Next to the mailbox, during the day, has potential to be problematic anywhere.

I don't yell, I just keep saying "give me a live person" over and over and over and over and over. usually the system eventually gives up and transfers me to an actual person.

I kicked Verizon to the curb last year after 20 years. Cut my bill in half.

Sometimes they'll switch you to a human when they don't understand your request. The "AI" isn't really intelligent; it just responds to key words and word patterns. Try stringing together random words into a nonsense sentence that it won't be able to make sense of. "Lightbulb fish interstate, please."

Got my hair cut for the first time since June. Gotta look good for the trophy pictures next week.

The only problem is that VZ/ATT are the only carriers that are truly nationwide, and I end up in some weird places sometimes. I guess I should really sign up with a MVNO that uses one of those networks.

Bring a starlink and use wifi calling. A bit clunky though. It's how I put out fires at work while I'm in the mountains where nobody gets service.

I'm on Cricket, which is owned by ATT. No problems. I do notice the bandwidth gets choked down in super crowded places like Oshkosh, but my life is such that it's basically never an issue. My bill is about half what it was as well. I doubt the customer service is as good, but I haven't really needed customer service from my phone company in years, so again, non-issue. I pay the bill, the phone works. It's kind of like buying a Chevy (or maybe a Geo...remember those?) instead of a Cadillac.

Unless you're a Labrador Retriever. :)

What's the difference between a cell carrier/Internet provider and a local drug dealer? Some drug dealers have some sense of ethics.

Has George Clooney been to your house?

(All-time classic prank from when he was roommates with Richard Kind)
