What did you do today?

Dug up some horseradish root and made a quart of prepared horse radish. I was already committed to it when I realized I didn’t have any distilled vinegar, so I had to use red wine vinegar. I’m converted, it’s all I will ever use again, it came out amazing, though I did feel like I was hit in face with tear gas a couple of times during the process.

Edit: it did give me some inspiration for an olive and sesame seed oil garlic vinaigrette with a small amount of horseradish and cracked pepper corns dressing for bitter greens and spinach that I think will taste amazing.

is beeswax made from bees wax...... + processing?
I actually do also raise bees, and no. Bees wax is essentially only filtered but, but horse radish undergoes a chemical reaction when the cell structures are rupture creating a chain reaction that results in the “heat” flavor. That reaction is both stopped and the final product made shelf stable for storage with the use of vinegar to lower the ph to a point that reaction stops and it inhibits spoilage.

It depends on what youre doing with your beeswax. Just beeswax is filtered is cappings from honey then melted and filtered. But a beeswax candle usually has coconut oil or another oil mixed in to lower the melting point.

I attended my first Savanna Bananas game. It was a blast!

I put some of that horseradish on a freshly sliced pit-ham sandwich. Made a great lunch Sammy.

What do you get if you mix horseradish and beeswax?

On Saturday my wife cooked a steak. She gave me a knife and fork so I could feed myself.

The Dr. ssays the stitches can come out next week...

Wife is gone for the weekend for her goddaughter's graduation. I went to the store for beer and steaks. Realized I didn't have my wallet when I was walking in. Had enough pocket money for a sixer of strong IPA and hotdogs. I'm not too disappointed, I make a good hotdog.
This is a good reason to have Apple Pay set up on your phone or watch if you have Apple branded gadgets. I think Google has an equivalent. Forgot the wallet? No problem, use the phone instead. And I can't forget my phone since it's my car key, and the backup "key" is a card that lives in... My wallet!

You probably did not have a drivers license either...o_O

Watched the Monaco Grand Prix and Indy 500 on TV. Been to both in person and lot more fun being there but one helluva lot cheaper on TV.

Correct. It was not in my possession for that drive.

Well, now I just feel stupid, because I'm pretty sure I have the Google one. Though, I haven't used it at a store before. I even know my card number by heart. I could have set it up if I'd thought about it.

Today, I fixed the steak situation. I had to go back to town for dog food, so I got another opportunity to buy steaks. The steak selection was wiped out. They had two really thin ribeye steaks and a few thin NY strip steaks... or big, thick Porterhouses for $45. I went with the porterhouses, and just finished eating one.

We live out in the boonies, in an area with probably 1,000+ campsites and many homes are second homes for people in nearby cities. If you don't go to the store by Thursday, the *weekenders* buy out the meat and beer departments.

*many locals refer to them as terrorists*

Wife got me sick with a wild stomach bug, so I've spent a couple days rotting in the house and wishing I was well enough to take advantage of this stellar flying weather. Sedentary lifestyle has me going seriously stir crazy.

Today, I spent some time working on socializing a litter of kittens in my Jetta parts car. We have this feral mama cat who comes around the farm; I put a cat door in the pole barn/equipment shed and I leave a little dry kibble and water in there. Her presence seems to help keep mice out of my camper and other vehicles. Really need to trap her and get her spayed - she's birthed four or five litters so far, but she's not tame enough for me to get any closer than ~6 feet and she usually moves her kittens as soon as she sees me messing with them.

Going well with this batch: after a couple weeks of contact, they start crying and walking toward me when they hear me coming.

Took care of my extra flap and touched up on my soft and short fields. Was 13 minutes shy of logging my first night landing at the home drome with minimal lights in a long ass time.

:) I have a friend that likes Jetta's. I'm going to send him this pic.

Sunday:

Driving Range and then purchased and assembled a Masterbuilt 1260 despite the instructions having no contrast with diagrams, wrongly labeled parts/incorrect assembly directions, and requiring one to undo previous steps in order to do the current step.

Today: Break-in/season the beast and figure out what meat to christen it with

Mowed the lawn! Now the only Mohawk I know of is about 15 miles away.

1. Went to the gym. Dude was on the ab machine I wanted for like twenty five minutes. How annoying.
2. Got some coffee. Some Coffee Girls give me a free flavor shot to tone the bitterness down. Some don't. This one doesn't.
3. Listened to a song by Chuck Prophet featured in a really bad movie about a girl that was born with teeth in her ****gina.
4. Rode to the Burger Place. Placed an order with Burger Girl. They burned my burger.
5. Won three games of Spider Solitaire.

straddled something that was in the middle of the road. just as I was about to drive over it.......it moved. then, thump thump. it was a little chipmunk and I was devastated. it really ruined my workout, the coffee I had, the music I was listening to, the burger I ate and the games I played on the pc. I couldn't get it out of my mind. really sux.

I rediscovered something from my youth, that I had almost entirely forgotten about. Swamp Buggy racing. Now, I can't tell you why it was on my TV so much in my youth, in the NC foothills, far away from the lowlands and swamps. It just was. We had one of those giant satellite dishes that had to move when you wanted to switch channels. I guess I was receiving Florida Man channels.

The dog got 2 chipmunks today. I can't turn it off.

Finally found my trigger weight gauge.

I completely forgot that I had done something I almost never do... probably for the first time, I had put the gauge in a drawer with other "gunsmithing" tools (using the term loosely)

And after I used it, I did something I almost never do. Instead of leaving it on the HUGE pile of junk on the bench, I put the tool back in the drawer.

I remember those! When we first got a dish when I was a tween those had me hooked for about month!

Never to be found again….. ATLEAST until right after you buy a new one.

I confess that I almost bought a new one, but it was out of stock at my two preferred suppliers. I suppose that tidbit belongs in the what I didn't do today thread...
