Way to go Cajun

Practically naked women are totally OK, but god forbid I post a picture of mostly clothed heroes saving the day (one sexy, sexy firefighting adventure at a time), and BAM... thread locked. Also, these words are offensive - **** ****

Gotta love PoA.

I doubt it was her post, that thing was off the rails already.

You really don't think you're the reason the thread got locked...seriously?

Ummm...no.

Me, personally...I won't mourn the day that mscard is permanently banned. It's just a matter of time for those who never develop a sense of community or respect.

Ooh Mr Badass again.

Community or respect? Does that apply to you and your comments too sport?
You may have some folks fooled about yourself, but I know what you are.

Ya think?

It was sarcasm based upon the irony that the thread got locked right after her post of the firefighters when there was so much more posted previously. Yes, I understand that it was mere coincidence but that to me is what made it funny. In comedy timing is everything as they say.

I guess my sense of humor is different than most folks. :dunno:

Ah, got it, sometimes hard to hear the tone in the text. Now that MC hammer was unmistakable funny.

I assumed they took offense at the lax Health and Safety procedures that allow firefighters to battle life threatening blazes while shirtless, and clearly without a parachute.

The mods have a thankless, difficult job.

Some people here need to get spanked for repeated nonsensory.

Other people probably are unfairly targeted because their stuff gets reported by vindictive asshats.

And no matter what they do, half of the people here won't be thrilled with it.

I thought the sarcasm was obvious. But based on that and @timwinters posts, it appears not.

Actually, I too thought his post was sarcasm. It was your response that I wasn't sure about and was responding to:

I was joking, chill.

ETA- Although I was being smarmy with the fact that certain words are considered somehow distasteful, while some of the pics posted here are not. Was threatened with the ban hammer once because I dared use a three letter word that starts with an "a" by sneaking in an "@". Gasp!!!!

Historical prospective: this board was originally created to be family friendly, IE clean. OTOH, most kids, by the time they're in middle school, have been exposed to far more than what goes on here. Still, the MC operates under the original charter that this board be respectable.

Well, I knew that you were joking.

This thread seems to illustrate well how internet postings are easily misinterpreted even when some think their meaning or intent is obvious. Though in this case, I don't see how either Cajun's post or mine was misinterpreted. Just goes to show that we all see things differently. It would suck though having to start and end each joke with a notice that it is a joke or sarcasm. You sort of hope that folks just get it. Makes it better in my opinion. Oh well. But then again, I've been called the @ word now and then.

This is why I have to put some kind of emoji following my sarcasm, because even when it's obvious humor, people tend to create backlash over it. Another reason why I'm very careful what I write on this board.

Yeah but even though I thought it was obvious, I still added a ;). Still it was misunderstood.

Doesn't seem like anything should be sensored here that you can't hear on any given night of primetime tv.

These days you hear and see much much worse at restaurants, grocery stores, shopping ......well just about anywhere in public. It amazes me how rude and uncivilized young people are these days. The language they use in public just sets me off. My children don't need to hear it and I don't plan on explaining to our two year old what an f word is or what douche means!

Hush your mouth!!!

How's about this... if my text is in black, assume I'm either joking, full of **** or both. Also assume I'm probably drinking and thinking about things not "family friendly."
You better check your tone young lady! Talking like that will bring out the ban hammer of social justice and motivational awareness!

Is this what you sent to the mods too?

I agree, middle school aged kids who talk like sailors and act like the world owes them something, it's appalling to say the least. Where are the parents to teach respect these days? Props to the ones who instill good behavior in their kids, it is well recognized.

The censor filter was discussed by the MC at the time we went to the new software. The consensus was that it remains. Just use the real word and let the filter do its work. People go to a lot of work to try and bypass it. Some examples we will let go because it's impossible to catch all instances and be fair about it, the more egregious examples, no, especially if they are reported. I can't imagine anyone on the MC warning someone about the use of @ss, especially when ass is not filtered.

They follow the examples they see. When parents use terrible language and then say, "don't cuss," what do you think the kids really learn?

I just went back and read my big bad warning email and, you're right, it wasn't ass it was sht, with an "!" instead of an "i".

My point was just that I think it's interesting and a bit absurd how people choose to be offended by or find certain words vulgar, but aren't offended by or find certain images vulgar. Have just come to accept that's how it is here. I prefer not seeing softcore porn on this website, but its presence is abundant.

It is what it is. At the end of the day, I don't care.

I swear, but never around my kids. Moved to a new town late last year and I joke not, the kids on my street are tossing around the f-word like it's nothing. When I say kids, I mean children as young as 5. I caught one of them teaching my son how and when to say it, and put the fear of God in them accordingly. Funny how I'm now the only mom on the street the neighborhood kids respect. My son said it ONCE in my presence. Pretty sure it's the last time he'll make that mistake.

My goal is to raise a much smarter, polite and respectful person than I am. So far so good.

Cajun, I apologize for a post I made in another thread and will try to do better reigning in my offensive posts.

I'm sure you're doing a fine job Desiree, plus their mom's a cool pilot with a sense of humor!

My wife and I try real hard to have our children act the way we were taught growing up. We have received comments quite a few times when we have gone out to eat or to a store or to peoples homes about how well our children behaved and how polite they were. It really makes you feel good when it is noticed. There are many acquaintances we have that will never get an invite from us to come over for dinner or out to eat because of their children. It is quite an embarrassment to be around children like that when the parents sit and do nothing about it other than the lame " I'm only going to count to forty two.......forty three forty four.......well that is it, no pie with your cake when we get home"
It seems that every time we are out to eat I have to tell some young folks to watch their mouths, or shut up we don't want to hear your phone call.
I have even bought drinks for some parents who have had great children in the restaurant. It will hopefully make them a bit proud of having a great start to their childrens futures.

Your son probably still swears, just not in your presence.

But that's really all we can hope for, teaching people not to swear in places where it is inappropriate or unwelcome. And the places where it is not appropriate changes over time.
