I had remembered the Daniel Bernath and using his iPad GPS speed as a heads up display instead of airspeed (because when he looked at the airspeed gauge he drifted off runway) while landing but it’s on sportpilottalk. Though it got honorable mention here: https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/lawsuit-madness-omg.64383/page-19#post-1299755

Although as events turned out he was not a troll, just a very troubled person. It ended the way many of us thought it would, with a smoking hole.

Ah, Henning. I never was entirely sure if he really was The Most Interesting Man in the World, or just a legend in his own mind. I've got a friend I've known since junior high that has been everywhere, seen everything, done everything, knows everyone... or is a harmless but persistent pathological liar. I know which, but I've known him a long time. I suspect he and Henning would get along famously.

Perfect response to Henning just about every time lol

Having read through a few of these... wowzers... And they call me a "space cadet.."

Whitney turned out to be a foul-mouthed dude. I was surprised and a little disappointed, frankly. “She” had an epic run.

Wait, you mean she didn't really have a 10,000 acre farm in Canada, a couple houses in Mexico, 2500 hours in a king air and a family where every single member perished under mysterious circumstances?

I thought there was a daughter still living. The one she flew at night in the mountains in her Cessna 180 to an airstrip lit by candles, or was it campfires?

I believe you are correct. I think the daughter was her niece, who she was raising after her brother or sister....well, you can guess the rest.

I forgot about the dark airstrip.

Does that mean it’s ok to wear white socks? :)
Only on your hands and only if you have an AOA.

I’d nominate that guy, but I don’t think he was trolling.

Whitney alleged herself/himself to be Doug Medford, who showed up abruptly late evening June 25th of 2022. I took a couple screenshots of his rants and posted them but mods removed, probably wisely due to language. All in all, Whitney was an entertaining impersonator with aviation knowledge. I think most of us were charmed.

The AOPA Forum links are all broken, because the forum was nuked a few years ago.

Henning got checked out to rent a plane from my club for a flight to Southern California, and when it came time to make his flight, he took a different plane than he had reserved, which caused a student pilot to have to reschedule his/her checkride. I learned something about Henning right then and there. :(

I ran across a post from about 5 or 6 years ago...a post by "Anymouse." Can it be topped? doubtful. Some guy by the name of "henning" who used to hang here and apparently had done everything a man could do.

Here's a short list of his exploits...

Snip……

Ain’t no thing. I knew this old guy from Tennessee who invented the internet and had proof of existence of ManBearPig!

Dang!! I got nominated to the trolling hall of fame 6 years after the fact. And by someone that wasn't even a member at the time! That's epic!!

(Sorry for the necropost. I was searching for my original post and this one popped up as well. I couldn't resist posting.)

My dad's brother is a retired german ship captain who ran a bar and real estate business in his later years. If you hung out with him, occasionally some of his buddies from maritime days would come by and spin some 'Yarn' about things that happened in their times on the high seas in the 50s and 60s. Whenever I read Henning stories my internal narrator reads them in the dialect of a old northern german sailor. If you hear them that way, they make total sense.

What about the brown couch guy? (Hacky, Flemming, Rampy) I forget which. I just know his plane was very heavy.

The Dude that has his underwear twisted about the Gustave Whitehead

Oh and Nomex! GENIUS level trolling!
That nomex thread.

So many folks answering his bad faith post, in good faith, god bless ‘em.

No one, not even a chronic alcoholic, drives better at 0.18 BAC

No doubt. I usually hit my best performance at 0.14 and then things start to slide a bit.

According to posts on this board and another one, Henning passed away yesterday. He was interesting. Fair winds and blue skies.

I saw that. It referenced some FB posts in the Washington state boating community that state that he passed away a few weeks ago without giving details. The most recent pics of him certainly showed an aged version of who we were familiar with over the years.
I briefly thought about removing my post but decided against it. His ability to spin a good Yarn was one of the main things I will remember him for. I would say most of the stories had at least a core truth. Yes his dad was a shrink and yes, there is video of him retrieving a sailboat in a hurricane, but some of the details of other stories may have been somewhat embellished. That's the nature of the genre.

Fair winds and following seas.
