And every third car you see on the road is the same model you bought. That has been the experience of my life.

Until now. I have not seen a 2026 Outback yet. And it's March.

lol, the same, but it was the 2025 Outback one year ago for us. I even notice more have the same color and/or trim level.

I’m ready ,will be in need of a new car by then.

Swing a dead cat in CO and youll hit 7 of them.
yeah, I think that says more about where he lives than the commonality of the car.

I've never bought a new car.

My research for cars I bought (as opposed to trading for) was noting how many old examples of interesting models were still driving the freeway during my previous commutes.

From this extensive research I bought a 1980s vintage Toyota Corolla which lasted me a decade. An updated version for my wife at the time around 1990--I gave it to her in the amicable divorce settlement. A mid-1990s Nissan small pickup that I put a lumber rack on and drove for another decade then gave to my nephew who still drives it. And finally, a wrecked out and repaired 2000 Toyota Tacoma TRD pickup. Put on a lumber rack and had the bed Linex'd, and I still drive it 20 years later. Seriously considering updating to a 2020-ish version.

Along the way, through various means, I've owned a 1960 Rambler station wagon, a 1966 Land Rover 88, a 1967 Datsun SPL11 (Fairlady, a Datsun ripoff of the MGB), a Fiat 124, a 1992 Nissan 240SX (lowered. It was a sweet road hugger but the speedometer only went up to 120 mph and it would peg easily). Various motorcycles and cars bought for girlfriends, and probably a few I've forgotten.

I just parked my 20 year old GMC Duramax.

Because diesel prices jumped to 5 bucks/gal

Used to have a Forester. Real good car but never been big on Subaru styling. New Uncharted EV looks nice though.

My wife has a Subaru Outback. She likes it except for all the federally mandated bullsiht. Now that much of that nonsense has been canceled by presidential EO, she is hoping the dealer will turn it off especially the stupid engine off/on feature. It, and a few others can be disabled on a per start basis, but that is truly annoying.

She also thinks new cars should come with a manual window override. In wrecks, compromised electrical systems are common. If the doors are jammed by the impact, you're trapped. How about a socket in every door panel and a handle stowed in the glovebox?

One thing I want to do to our Outback, is give it a beepectomy. I have been in multiple new cars; the seatbelt beep system is now so obnoxious on all new cars I am tempted to leave all the seatbelts plugged in and never wear one. I have not done it yet, but it is getting very tempting, especially when I remove the seatbelt to backup down our 150ft driveway that is not straight.

Also, with a driveway that long I would be looking to install a turnaround.

I bought a new Jeep Cherokee in '89. Still a daily, though it's had a few mods. Wife has an '87 MR2 she loves. Calls it herboy toy magnet. My 2 favorites were a Porsche 914 2.0 and the aforementioned Datsun 2 seater. Both sweet machines I wish I still had.

Hate the new stuff, nothing worth buying IMHO.

I think you can disable the auto idle shutoff through the car settings on '25 and earlier models. I installed a module on mine to disable it. It doesn't work.

Some years ago, some guy named Joe tweated Musk saying that the audible alerts in his Tesla would wake his infant and asked for a way to make them quieter. He responded to the tweat with an "ok" and some months later "Joe Mode" appeared in a software update. I keep it engaged on my car.

Velcro one of these somewhere easily accessible. Less than $2. Also has a seat belt cutter.

Thanks. Not the same model, but I got her a window breaker.

Is this the module?

Can you post a link or talk me through the setting change to disable the idle shutoff feature?
Not sure what model or year you have but it should be similar.
