I’m often hunting for the thread “Daily Pic”, so I put that in the magnifying box, select thread titles only,

and I don’t see it.

the thread:

The search string is ANDed, not literal. Type "daily pic" (double quotes) for the exact string.
Without quotes it shows up, but you have to scroll down a bit in the results to find it.

True, but the search function still behaves weird. For example, search for "joke day" without the quotes and the "Let's make Friday Joke Day" thread, with 18,801 posts shows up sixth.

Even more nonsensical, if you select "search titles only", it doesn't show up at all! ???

I seem to always have problems finding threads with the search tool.

As another example, if you search for myflightbook (without the "search titles only" checked), "The Myflightbook thread" is the first result. Makes sense, an active thread with lots of instances of the search term.

But if you do check the "search titles only" box, then it shows up sixth, behind much older threads that have not had any activity in a long time, like one of mine that hasn't had any posts in 8 years.

I'm curious what the sort logic is for search results, it definitely doesn't seem logical to me.

The default XF search is pretty lousy, but there's an addon to improve it. I'll try putting that on later this week to see if it helps.

Did “Daily Pic” thread get removed?
I tried with and without quotes, tried “There is a daily pic thread” (known word string in that thread)… they all lead here but not to the desired thread.
(If you find it, you are obligated to show your work)

OTOH, go to Google and type (with quotes)
"joke day" site:pilotsofamerica.com
and you get (which continues like that page after page after age after...) ...

Alas, feature I was looking at requires a rather expensive add on package. Not worth attempting it.

You have to be logged in to search the site now? The search button seems to disappear when I log out.

honestly @Let'sgoflying! Best thing you can do is just use google... It faster and more accurate. I use it all the time to find stuff on poa.

The built-in search is horrendous. I can search the exact thread title and it won't even be in the first 10 results.
Meanwhile, The Google...

The search function's prohibition on short words is also annoying, in an activity ruled by acronyms.

Did something change recently on the POA end? Google search seems to have really gone downhill.
