PRO TIP - If you’ve memorized the sine table, you don’t need to memorize the cosine table, too. Just remember that the cosine is equal to the square root of (one minus the square of the sine).
Well, duh!

Wouldn’t it be simpler to memorize the sine table and do a calculation in your head?

I haven’t thought about it in a while but while I look at forecast winds before flying and I do get the ATIS/AWOS before landing I just fly the landing and by final I either can hold it in the crosswind or I can’t. If I can’t I make a new plan. I haven’t calculated the crosswind component in years.

I guess that makes me a pretty poor excuse for a geek.

Sine, sine, everywhere a sine
****in' up the crosswind
Breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that
Can't you read the sine
Hey….,, What are you insineuating with that remark?

Fun Fact: Was taught trig not with triangles but with a circle. Radius R=1, X axis is Cosine and Y axis Sine.

So I got me a pen and a paper,
And I made my own table of sines.
Screw you, wind, for tossing me around,
But I made the landing just fine.

Problem I have is the data to input. Specifically, my untowered home field has a notoriously bad METAR when it comes to the wind speed / direction. One day I was landing with "Calm" wind and was on the edge of going around and diverting, as I was was at full rudder deflection to keep it straight.

It happens when the runway doesn’t have a steering wheel.

Its ok, no one expects you to understand.

;-)
Nope

Crosswind is when the wind is mad at you and in a bad mood. But won't tell you what you did wrong or why you're in trouble.

At X04, where I trained for SP and PP, I have seen windsocks at each end of the runway pointing at each other. The automated weather sensors are at the south end of the runway, so it can't be trusted at the north end. Crosswind can be doing almost anything along the length of the runway. No calculation can be better than the input data, so why bother?

Then I took off my hat,
Said, 'imagine that,
Me, flyin' fer you' . . ..

I'm taking every one of you nerds out of my will.
Hey, who has The Monkey? They should will that to you. Or Sac. Or maybe pull a King Solomon, cut him in half and a piece to each of you. Put your request in now, which half do you want?

Is this what upset the OP so much he left? Geez, this is tame. I think maybe he was wrapped too tight for PoA. Probably wrapped too tight for New Orleans.

(Bonus points for first one to get the movie reference.)
