Piper High Wing AD

Ouch.

Wonder if AIR2202 might change people's opinions on the recent lack of NTSB recommendations in final reports.
Has AOPA commented on the AD other than reporting its existence? Would be interesting to hear their take given their 'senior safety advisor' is a signatory.

The NTSB and FAA are going nuclear on a mosquito. Their own reports shows that the two that failed, out of tens of thousands in service, were on modified aircraft. An SAIB or manufacturer’s SB is the best, and only reasonable, response to the issue.

Both aircraft had a higher HP upgrade IIRC and also a rudder mount beacon. Some of the models in the proposed AD had straight rudders which didn't fail and the part number the FAA used was for the curved rudder. So prescribing a replacement that was incompatible, on an aircraft that has seen zero failures.
