Peak absurdity of CA gov

The peak absurdity of california is how much we fund the under-performing states. Cut them loose, sink or swim, survival of the fittest, etc...

Yeah, it's always funny to see california bashing here. After all, it's so wildly unsuccessful a state that if it were it's own country it would only be the 4th largest economy in the world. Imagine what could have happened with better policies! They could finally be as successful as Arkansas or Mississippi!

China has five times California's GDP. Does that mean China has good economic policies? Do you wish to adopt communism so California can finally be as successful as China? :confused2: Perhaps economic "success" isn't the only metric for judging government policy, especially non-economic policies.

China's GDP per capita is 13k
California's is 100K

So they aren't in the same league.

But, sure, other things matter also.

On the whole, no one is being forced to live in california, yet still has some of the highest real estate values in the nation because demand outpaces supply. I guess maybe a few warning labels aren't really a deal breaker.

By that measure, Monaco blows California out of the water.
Admittedly, I have never been to Monaco. However, it sounds quite charming from a quick internet search. But, I have yet to live somewhere I didn't enjoy.

You may wanna check the history on this. Pretty sure it was a Federal mandate and, even today, is liked quite a bit by corn and soybean farmers in a lot of states.

Where do you think the feds got the idea? And I don't care who likes it, anything that reduces fuel economy is a BAD idea.

I have, in 2019. It's great, as long as you have plenty of money to burn. We didn't and the stop by the cruise ship was plenty.

I say we grant Quebec their independence.
Putain!
Hopefully this doesn't cross the line into spinzone by mentioning a name. But I did really enjoy talking with Canadian friends at the beginning of the 51st state sillyness and hearing them joke that "only trump could make the Quebecois into proud Canadians"

Also, we're going to need a bigger flag.

Confirmed. Otherwise it won't fit.

No, they did not. It was implemented as regulatory action by the administration, not as a law passed by congress.
Which means it could have/could be undone by other administrations. But hanging it on CA just helps feed a narrative.

Will we see some administration ban chemtrails nationwide based on the legislation of 8 (at present) states? Now THAT would be stupid, regardless of what state pushes it.

This thread is clearly political at this point (since early on, actually). I’m surprised it’s still alive.

China really isn't communist any more. They have stock exchanges, privately owned businesses, and so forth. There's a lot of state control, but I wouldn't call them "communist" any more.

Before this thread, how many of you knew brass can have lead in it?

I didn't.
I might be a bit more cautious about letting a developing teenager use a brass handle screwdriver regularly, if not wearing gloves.

Same reason I tell the FBO kids that refuel planes all day long to wear gloves. They get a lot more exposure to TEL than the typical weekend warrior, and their brains are still actively developing.
I wear nitrile gloves whenever I preflight, even though I fly a maximum of 3 times a week. I wouldn't fly in one plane because it smelled of Avgas. They finally replaced a gasket on the wing sump drain and the smell went away. It's now back on my OK to fly list.

I guess the dirt is different in CA?

When my son was about 5, he wanted to be a knight for halloween. So we made him a costume, and bought an itty-bitty plastic sword and shield set to complete the look.

Molded into the back of the itty-bitty plastic shield were the words: NOT A PROTECTIVE DEVICE.

On a Superman costume: "WARNING: CAPE DOES NOT ENABLE WEARER TO FLY."

They're missing a paragraph. It should say "not to be used to store or transport children". I'm willing to bet a mortgage payment that there are people out there that don't know that people need air to breath. Not sarcasm.

no bet.

My curiousity is why we're trying to save them from themselves with these warnings. We're robbing Darwin of some gene pool skimming that he is due.

Nah. The worst part about these warnings is that any body dumb enough to need them isn’t going to change what they do because of them.

Don't be naive. Those warnings aren't there to prevent those people from hurting themselves. They're there to stop the multi-million dollar lawsuit happening after the fact.
A lawsuit that would be thrown out of court in any other civilized country.

I knew about brass containing lead. You asked.

I suppose in a sense, it is different. Yeah.

Specifically, the 'dirt' that comes out the other end of the composting process in CA doesn't have the microplastics and other coatings in it that exists in the states that allow those plates into their compostable waste stream.
