Anyone know where to find used or non piper back and front plates for the spinner? Both of mine are cracked and the Piper cost is unreal. You can send me a pm if that is easier.

How much is it now?

We replaced a back for like 600 CAD two years ago.

Do you have specific part numbers? But, as I recall, a number of PA28 models can be legally flown without the spinner installed as another option.

They seem to be having production issues but considering contacting them.

Depending on the problem with your spinner bulkheads they may be candidates for repair.

This guys repair spinners and bulkheads. They seem to maintain a stock of repaired parts. You can also send them your parts for repair.

I have not used any of these companies.

IMHO there are several reasons for issues with Piper Spinners.

1. Design - Using standard AN 960 washers of small diameter can cause the

relatively soft bulkhead material to sort of “squish” out from under the

washer. It can cause the prop bolts to lose proper torque as well

as deforming the bulkhead. Some mfg use larger diameter

“ prop washers” to alleviate the deformation. AN 970 washers are a bit

too large for this application.

2. Overtightening can also cause this.

3. Note that on Piper Spinners the edge is folded over. Some have a single

thickness ( pic) and others provide a double thickness ( not shown)

for the attaching screw holes. Note hardened steel attach bracket in pic.

IMHO the Spinner cracked because the difference in the thickness was not

compensated for by the brackets. Tightening screws should not deform the

Spinner as it will eventually crack. A shim between the bracket and Spinner

may be of help here. Worth checking at Inspection Time.
