Oshkosh 2026

Happy to have you; fair warning - it’s all about flying and maintaining T6’s, no 985 stuff allowed! :p

Then you'll miss all the stories about blowing cylinders off, which apparently happens on about 10% of twin beech flights.

I always put a sign that says "MVFR" in my windshield when I want to depart.

I'm just looking forward to using the taxiway departure this year. IFR, VFR? Who cares.
And…….. going the wrong way. And buzzing the tower. And…….

And…….. going the wrong way. And buzzing the tower. And…….
The deadstick landing against traffic option is always a crowd pleaser.

And…… extended taxi through the food court …….

Didn't there used to be a "what's new" section...or am I making that up? Anybody parse it yet to see if there's any changes this year?
yeah— the last time they listed the changes it was on the front page of the 2024 NOTAM. For 2026 there doesn’t look like there’s much change from 2025. From the EAA AirVenture NOTAM page for this year:
  • New VFR reporting points and routes for pilots flying to Appleton (ATW)

Ordered a new tent. Should be here this weekend!

I mostly fix the NOTAM issue by arriving five days before it goes into effect. I do have to pay attention to it if I decide to give rides during the show.

Yaaaaaay.

So, when does the mudslinging start on the pros/cons of flying a 172 on the high/fast arrival??
When did it stop?

BONUS: I called the nice EAA people and ordered a hard copy of the NOTAM. The booklet should arrive in mail in a few weeks. I do like using a mix of hard copy and tablet when flying, and for preparation reading/high lighting/writing notes for me is a great way to internalize things. Worked well last year.

Might be a problem getting that counter into the tent.

I dunno. The tent is bigger than i originally thought. I’m glad I didn’t order the 6 person one.

Ditto. Except I just print it off myself. It goes into a folder I always keep on the plane along with laminated arrival and departure taxi signs. I also have a sign to tell them to stop me short on the parking spot as I like to pull the plane forward the last couple of feet onto aluminum plates I made for parking in grass.

Mine is an 8-person and it’s looking like it’ll be just me in it this year… lots of room which I love for a week in a tent!

Yikes! It takes me less time to fly to KOSH from Austin, TX!

That’s less time than it takes me to FLY in the Piet… which I’ve done.

“Dad… we’re getting passed by a minivan…”

Show off… I usually make my signs during a penalty lap around a lake… bitchy tough in an open cockpit. One year in a voice activated cirrus it was easy!
I have my wife to thank for the laminations. She bought a lamination machine a few years ago and went crazy looking for things to laminate.

I bought a laminator exclusively for Oshkosh, but I took it home with me as I figured I might need it at other times. We were envisioning needing to put up signage to route pedestrians coming in through the gated community, but it turned out not to be a big issue.

Ooooh… yes. You get a pass. She deserves flowers. All is well in the world again! Whew… for a minute there…

My sister laminated everyone’s “duties”, complete with a lanyarded grease pencil, card for her wedding. I was an usher, had a card with one line and a box to check… And before you ask, yes, I screwed it up. It was NOT pilot proof.

Uh, planning on using these a lot?!!!! Still married to the same guy. I’ll bet she still has them if any dads here wanna save a buck on a wedding planner.

Need to get her to make me a checklist for flying to Oshkosh. Had to fly low (well, to be fair there was some scud running to be had anyway) one year so I could download the NOTAM on the way. Ima pretty accomplished procrastinator.

Does anyone know when the AirVenture Events Schedule is going to be released? I kept checking the website but it still says 2026 Information Coming Soon. And we're less than 2 months away until the show.

I’ve never volunteered before, but I’m curious how/what/where I might be able to do something one or more days I plan to be there this year (Friday afternoon thru Thursday noonish)?

Vintage Flight Line conducts training each day at 9AM and 1PM. It runs about 2 hours for new people. After that, you can show up to volunteer whenever we're open (daylight hours).

Nah——- not needed. Just buy an orange safety vest and dark mirrored sunglasses from Wal Mart, and walk around directing traffic, asking people for ID, give out random scavenger hunt directions to people when they are lost.

Well, you have a couple of options in addition to Vintage. The first is to look at the Volunteer page here: https://www.eaa.org/eaa/support-eaa...ture/available-airventure-volunteer-positions
Second is to simply ask a volunteer doing the job you might want to try. They’ll be able to get you contact with whomever is the chair for that volunteer area.

If you are an EAA member you can also try posting your request in the EAA Forum’s AirVenture sub-forum. IIRC, that’s basically how I got into the area I volunteer with (if wasn’t there it was over on VAF).

Finally there used to be a bulletin board over by the Red Barn, more or less across from the Fly-Market entrance, that Chairs would solicit for volunteers but I’m not sure it’s still there.

Vintage has a volunteer booth in front of their red barn. But FlightLine is where the cool people are :)

@masloki has volunteered for the N40 flightline in the past as well, which would be a bit less of a hike for you. You'd have to ask him how they do training, but I get the impression they also take walk ins. There's also a volunteer center where they'll find you a job. You could do that on the weekend before the show starts.

Teresa and I have decided that we'd make a good tram driving team in a couple years when we don't have little kids to watch.
