Hi team. I have the factory 02 system in my '82 Piper Arrow IV and it's due for testing. It sounds like our local SCUBA shop (MN School of Diving) used to do it but no longer. Wondering if anyone on here knows the best path. The tank is removed.

Anyplace convenient along the drive from central MN to the metro? Or on or near an airfield within $100 hamburger distance?

Thank you, JL

You can use portal.phmsa.dot.gov/rinlocator to find inspection centers. Set a search radius on the left hand menu and enter a zip code in the box at the top of the map then hit search. The glasses icon is for places that do visual inspections and the tank (stacked disks) are places that do hydrostatic testing

SCUBA ship had no recommendation?

This. SCUBA shops get tanks hydroed all the time. Every five years a SCUBA tank needs a hydro.
I've never known a shop equipped to do them on site, but they always have a connection with someone who does--usually a big welding or fire extinguisher supply house.

Years back, my local SCUBA shop wouldn't reveal their contact, because it turned out to be close by, and less than half the price the shop had been charging, so there's that.

Local Fire extinguisher company does them.
They pick up from dive shops here.

Now I don’t know about aircraft. Log book, Yellow Tags? Pilot permissible?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. My local SCUBA shop used to do them as I had mentioned, but a week after I had dropped it off I got a call back saying "we don't do these anymore" and I think a comment about not having the connection used on the aviation tanks. I tried the phmsa.gov link and it directed me to a local fire extinguisher shop where I left a message but just heard back they don't do it either, and referred me to the SCUBA shop full circle. So I'm still looking. Thanks.

For aircraft installed systems, it is a combination of DOT and FAA requirements. Order 8900.1 has a chapter on those requirements.

That’s why I had a portable O2 tank.

Used medical grade O2 and survived.

I would call Central McGowan in St. Cloud. They'll probably know someone who's capable of testing it if they are unable to do it themselves.

I know you’re looking local to MN, but a friend owns a hydro shop in the St. Louis area. He does everything from scuba (including o2 cylinders) to medical to welding, etc. You could always ship it

Heavy to ship, but outbound it could be sent empty, valve removed, since the O2 cleaning has to be repeated after a hydro. Coming back, I don't think it could be sent empty while still guaranteeing the O2 clean status. It wouldn't have to be shipped full, but it would need at least a little pressure in it. Might complicate return shipping a bit.

Our bailout bottles get shipoed with less than 25 psig in them. If one shows up with no pressure, it gets shipped right back to the vendor.
There's a process to go thru before I can sign off on the certs to ship one.

Did anyone look at the portal I posted in #10 above? It provides a list of authorized locations searchable by state.

@FORANE I had found the locator tool and tried the closest listings with no luck, fyi.
