Need some Outside Car Mechanic Advice

Ugggg... I have to do so much of that professionally I just cannot be bothered to do it with my car. It breaks, I go back to the store, maybe 1 in 10 times because some article was incorrect. Often I am doing my repairs in the parts stores parking lot; my preference is Carquest, their house filter is a Wix. I just don't really have a problem with it, maybe it was growing up on a car lot doing it every day.

The above is exactly what I do with all my vehicles. Any MX that is performed goes into it -- including the receipts.

And if more of the American drivers would do this, we'd all benefit from higher values when it comes time to sell, including when they come to my place.

Sounds like a good learning experience. Did a little damage, had a few 'aww crap!' moments, but was able to get everything back together in working order.

Good job sticking with it!

??? Maybe where you live, here we use the trash cans.

I guess it does depend on the neighborhood. Last time I did a parking lot repair at a car parts store I replaced a failed brake light switch. I pulled over to the side of the lot, and had to kick and empty brake fluid bottle away so I could have room to crawl under the dash.

Gee, who'd have thunk that you had an intake sealing problem ! haha

glad you got it figured out.

no offense intended but pros are pros and amateurs are well....

as said already ( i spent 3 years working at Mitsubishi dealer... ) it no secret handshake Japanese black hole universe engine - NON FACTORY books are WRONG ( and that is sure as heck not the first time !!! ) - two engine options 12 and 24 valve.

based on my humble experience of almost 20 years, the oil on plugs is valve stem seals... but what the heck do I know - I just diagnosed your vehicle from a 1000 miles away without even looking at it :D ;) and your oil light problem was most likely faulty sending unit but then again.... what do I know hahaha :dunno:

Well the oil light problem came back today. I have narrowed it down to above 90-95* temps, after long cross country highway trips, and only happens at idle/stopped situations. It has not happened yet when either one of those items is missing. So I'm hoping its the sender and not the oil pump .

It's your crank bearings worn out with so much gap at idle that when the oil is hot and thin the light comes on. Here's an experiment for you, get a bottle of Lucas oil treatment (or some 90 wt gear lube); when the engine gets hot and the light comes on, go ahead and dump it in with it running and see if the light goes back out for a couple of minutes. If it does your engine is likely just worn out. Have you ever gotten a real oil pressure gauge hooked up yet?
