My fortune cookie was about 30min late..

I hope you plane on framing that! (Get it? "Plane")

Sigh...... :D

I got one once that said something along the lines of "an alien is in your future".

About 30 seconds later a Chinese guy walked out of the kitchen. I didn't question the fortune, as it didn't specify which kinda of "alien".

My buddy had one that he kept in his wallet in High School...it said:

"Never take advice from a fortune cookie"

Ok I'm ready for the airplane ride.

My father once got one that said, "The bird of paradise will dump on your head. Wear a hat, an old one.

How do you know he was an alien?

Wrong! If you are born here regardless of ethnicity, you are not an alien, you are a natural born citizen. If you are a naturalized citizen even though born elsewhere, you are not an alien. To believe otherwise is bigoted nonsense.

To mis-quote Mandy Patinkin, "I do not think it means what you think it means. . ." I think he meant alien in the immigration/non-citizen sense, as in "non-resident alien" or "resident alien". . . like a Brit visiting Florida on vacation is an alien. As would be a Chinese guy passing through. . .

Maybe a reminder is in order:

joke
jōk/
noun
  1. a thing that someone says to cause amusement or laughter, especially a story with a funny punchline.
"she was in a mood to tell jokes"
synonyms: funny story, jest, witticism, quip

Seriously, I know what alien means in the immigration sense. That is why most post stated what it did relative to the Chinese gentlemen could either have been a natural born or naturalized citizen and not an alien. I am probably far more familiar with the terminology than most. But thank you anyway for your meager attempt to play schoolmarm.

Happy to help - I'll give you a B, maybe B+, on righteous indignation. Same on overeaction, and smugness.

C+ on articulation, though, and incomplete on rhetoric.

Back to the thread topic...

When the company I worked for about 10 years ago was going into bankruptcy I got "that call" one morning that I was being let go. (Knew it was coming, not a big shock.) I decided to go out and have a nice lunch at the local Chinese buffet. My fortune cookie said something like, 'A career change is in your future".
