"Many airline pilots, flight attendants, and air traffic controllers are part of the furry community." - Senator Tommy Tuberville, R-AL

Seems to me that when you separate from service, whether by discharge, resigning commission prior to 20 years, or retirement, you should also be released from UCMJ and your branch’s regulations. They got your prime decades of life and enormous sacrifice. They can pull a Maverick and let it go. The only reason that DoD would restrict retirees from full 1A is because they’re scared of the truth.
What's currently messed up is that Reserve retirements are not subject to the same gag order. It's a pretty hypocritical standard, and one that should just be codified away by Congress. In this case, legally aligning active retirees with the treatment already afforded reserve component retirements. For the most part, this threat has lived in the same realm akin to filial responsibility laws; existent but dormant. The current management has of course flipped that on it head and pressed-to-test so hard the button is stuck in, which leads us to present circumstances.

It wouldn't be the first time the US govt has victimized and even killed veterans for being critical of the govt (Bonus Army, 1932 et al), so I'm under no illusion modern day servicemembers would be exempted from state violence. I do treat financial warfare/coercion to be no different than physical violence; I don't entertain these western euphemisms of "violence with civility". But I digress. Not yet.:fingerwag:

Full disclosure, that [redacted] in the subject of this thread is the same [redacted] that held up my promotion list for 6 months, as part of their political theatre, circa the CY 2023 CR/shutdown food fights. [double epstein files redacted] that guy.

Military service is quite different from civilian employment, and so is retirement. This is nothing new. The relevant case is United States vs Hooper, from 1958. The court held that military retirees receiving a pension are still part of the military.

The defense questioned the military court's jurisdiction, but the court explained that "retired personnel are a part of the land or naval forces." The military retiree, then, is not simply a civilian. The court held that the admiral was "a part of the military forces of this country." He was described as "an officer of the Navy of the United States, entitled to wear the uniform and to draw pay as such." He was convicted and sentenced to dismissal and forfeiture of all pay and allowances.

IANAL, nor ex-military, but I believe retirees can still be called back to active duty, unlike retired civilian employees. Unlike what most of us think of when we hear "pension," a military pension is more like a retainer. In accepting it, and other benefits, the retiree is agreeing that he is still a part of the military and therefore subject to the UCMJ. I think (could easily be wrong) that the only way to get out from under that is to give up the pension and benefits, something most would be loathe to do.

FROM THE RULING:
[Those] on the retired list are not mere pensioners in any sense of the word. They form a vital segment of our national defense for their experience and mature judgment are relied upon heavily in times of emergency. The salaries they receive are not solely recompense for past services, but a means devised by Congress to assure their availability and preparedness in future contingencies. This preparedness depends as much upon their continued responsiveness to discipline as upon their continued state of physical health. Certainly, one who is authorized to wear the uniform of his country, to use the title of his grade, who is looked upon as a model of the military way of life, and who receives a salary to assure his availability, is a part of the land or naval forces.

The current management has of course flipped that on it head and pressed-to-test so hard the button is stuck in, which leads us to present circumstances.

As is their right. Just one of the many consequences of the military being under civilian authority, and that authority being subject to democratic processes. Change is hard.

The current DoD consistently threatens those of us with the wrong kind of rank on, with UCMJ action (art 88) for attempting to utilize a 1A (even as active retirees) which is apparently purported to "be given up for life" by virtue of said rank. Thankfully Sen. Kelly is fighting that good fight for us right now, and it looks as though we will prevail.

Until such a time, [Kelly adjudication or January 2029 (whichever happens first)], I'll have to quote you instead. You said it, I didn't.

sockpuppet life FTW.
What is 1A ?

What is 1A ?
The pesky little thing some want to steal my fully earned public pension over wanting to exercise in retired life. An "academic" nothinburger that most normies take for granted because they largely keep their head down and "go along to get along"; but not trivial in the least for some of us who took bigger risks in life for the preservation of all opinions and voices to be allowed in the public square of this blasted experiment.

Honestly, absent that [1A] inducement, China would be better place to be a middle income social score anonymous face these days. "You have to stay quiet... but at least the trains are fancy and run on time" type of thing. Bit too Italian for my taste, and I don't mean the pasta.

I prefer our system. But it's under threat, and I'm not naive. I am a rational human actor, which is why my household income is being diversified as we speak. And I'll leave it at that. Hope for the best, plan for the worst. Cheers.

I don't know the source, but I like and believe the saying that an honest man doesn't fear the truth. And only a coward fears a public that has the right to speak.

I won't bring up current issues and break the rules, but from a historical perspective it's happened before. Wilson had people jailed for protesting against the war that he promised, and based his reelection campaign on the promise, that he'd keep us out of. But what's 80-100 million people between friends. Another guy arrested many more decades earlier, but everybody likes him, and his count was less than a million. Both were theoretically smart guys. But I kid...all in jest.

Was there an answer to my what ‘is’ 1A question in there somewhere

I'm glad to see that PoA is treating this "problem" with all of the seriousness that it deserves!

Wouldn’t that be 8gph/hr?
Even though such a fuel consumption rate would increase throughout the flight, after 5 hours it's burning 40 gph, which still isn't bad for 300 knots. A 5 hour flight at 300 knots would burn 120 gallons, or an average burn of 24 gph, so not bad. Does the fuel burn reset every time you land? Keep the legs short.

Now, coupled with the 300 knots/hr figure, does that mean it burns 8 gph per 300 knots of speed? So the second hour is 600 knots and 16 gph? I like this airplane. Of course in the first hour it's only covered 150 nm, but it goes up quickly the longer you fly.

Yabbut…I didn’t do well in calculus, and that was 40 years ago. How far would you go in the first hour with a 300 knot/hr acceleration from zero?

Well if it's a steady, constant acceleration, 150 nm. So still a useful plane for pancake breakfasts, as well as international travel. Quite an airplane we're proposing here.

We already have a terrific federal mental institution, its called congress.

I was in a hotel once where there was a furry convention going on. Not my cup of tea, but to each their own.

My only serious complaint was that some of those suits could really have used some dry cleaning.

That's counter to the military tradition. A military member leaving after 20 years doesn't actually retire. They move to an inactive status, still paid by their branch at a reduced rate. In a national emergency, they can be called back, even if they don't want to go back.

The example I always think of is british naval officers. When not at sea, such as during peacetime, they would be retained in service at half pay.

This finally explains all the meowing we were hearing on freq months ago. They were communicating.:):):):):):):)
