Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

New car research starts months and sometimes years before I ever darken the doorstep of a dealer.
What would you do if your daily driver experienced a catastrophic failure and you'd need a replacement within a week or two?

Shopping for me is online nowadays even for groceries. 90% of what i buy is the same every week so i got my list saved and all i have to do is click “buy again”. Then i manually add the 10% of occasional stuff i don’t need weekly and everything magically appears in front of my door the next morning. The time i am saving doing that, converted into billable hours, is worth far more than any savings i could achieve by shopping around for the best price.

Next cars are always rolling around in my head and being lightly researched. I’m weird that way.

Depends on which daily got taken out. If rhe Wrangler was killed, this time I’d be looking at Civic Si or the BRZ/GR86. #savethmanuals

If the Outback died I’d be looking at 4Runner or Land Cruiser.

I'm a bit different than most here.

The closest grocery store is about a mile (1.1 actually) from my house. I take about a 3.5 mile walk every morning. The first leg is about a 2.5 mile circuitous route that gets me to the grocery store a little after they open. I buy groceries then walk home with them in a back pack. While there I do have a list of stuff we require, but I also walk around the store looking for things that I buy often, but only when they go on sale. I spend most of my time in the store in the produce and meat sections and buy what looks good and is on sale. My wife on the other hand will go in with a list and only buy from the list. She will buy full price pork chops when chicken is right next to it at Buy one-Get One free. The next week she might buy the full price chicken while the pork chops are bogo. Same with every thing else on her list. That is part of the reason I took over the shopping. Another reason is this way I get more steak and fewer beets and lentils.

Since I am retired, I do have more time for doing this. When I was working full time I didn't spend near as much time shopping or looking for stuff on sale. Now it a hobby that is actually healthy and saves me money.

big reasons why I don't do online grocery shopping:

I'm picky about the cantelope that I buy. Some of them are worth buying, but a lot of what is out is crap... either not ripe enough or are hard as a bowling ball. Extend that concept to other fruits and veggies.

I don't want a gallon of milk that will expire tomorrow

I don't want a product that is way past the expiration date (yesterday I saw a cake mix with an expiration of 17 Oct 2025, I didn't buy that one).

Another list shopper, strict adherence to. If they shuffle the locations and I can’t find things in a reasonable time, I go to another store where I can quickly fill the list.
Usually, the only question I have is, where is the item located in the store. When they pull out their phone, I know I have more of a clue than they do.

I need to start changing and do it this way. I have a Burley trailer for my city bicycle and a grocery store about a mile away. I need to ride up every few days and shop the sales, especially for meats.

You are probably correct that you know more than they do. But not always the location of a produce. They often look it up to try to find out WHAT you are talking about. One time I asked a young guy if he knew if htey had any Edamame in stock. He pulled out his phone and looked for a while, then asked me how to spell it, then asked me what it was. Finally he found that the had some in the frozen section. I said thanks and went to the fresh produce section again and asked someone else and he pointed to it over in the corner.

I may change my approach once retired and do something similar to what you're doing. I'm faaaar from retirement though.

No “FBI Surveillance Van 6”?
I did this one about 10 years ago using ''NM State Police Drug Van''.

Some folks living in a ratty single wide left during the night.

I have no idea if my wi-fi had anything to do with their leaving, but the dog problem went away when they left.

I also had just parked a van on my property.

Ah, cantelope...the tilapia of the fruit salad world.
(it's a JOKE thread)

Nauga,
who is also unpleasantly bland

I wanted to marry an English teacher when she got out of jail, but apparently you can't end a sentence with a proposition.
So how are all those high school students marrying their teachers who have just gotten out of jail?

(Edit: you’re not one of those students, are you?)

On the plus side, think of the pride when you're featured company wide during the next safety meeting!
Testing the theory that there is no such thing as bad visibility

Well, by then he should no longer be…wait for it…jail bait!

This reminds me of a Cheers episode from waaaaay long ago. Diane was dreaming that Sam was a cultured intellectual when Sam, wearing dinner or smoking jacket says, "do you realize you ended your proposition with a preposition"?

You and me and probably 90% of all pilots, engineers and other technical types.
That describes me three times!

I’m the same, I don’t “shop”. I go to a store knowing exactly what I am going to the store for and get nothing else. On big purchases I have already done extensive due diligence, researched the product, it’s alternatives, it’s weak points. Going to buy it is to do a confirmatory inspection that there is no damage or changes to the the actual unit from the published information that will be an issue. If a pushy salesperson starts bothering me I ask them complex questions I know the answer to already to judge their character. If they say they don’t know they will be getting the commission, if they try to brush it aside and go back into their sales pitch I’ll walk away. If they can answer it correctly, they will have a repeat customer.
Same.

And, FWIW, I will go into Costco and buy one thing.

It's possible to use resources on the web and do extensive research in a couple of days.
