Cool! Why don't you have any footage of the participants' aircraft or of the airport?
Actually, I tried...I brought a handheld radio to monitor CTAF, and twice while at the airport I tried to get out the drone, but each time aircraft were in the pattern, and I don't think drones and planes should mix.

Jeebus. Where was that first landing? Who builds a house right off the end of a runway? Little short there and they'll have an unexpected dinner guest.

M25. Where we went and grabbed lunch Saturday.

If the consensus is to move to Rough River, it looks like the campground at the base of the dam is closed while they make repairs to the dam structure. The Corps of Engineers estimates the repairs will extend to the 2021 season. I see two other campgrounds within an easy drive to the lodge and cabin facilities so still doable. Then again maybe we will just drive down and stay at the lodge. Time will tell.

Will mention Lake Barkley park as well, western KY. The airport is 4 miles away from the lodge but I would be amazed if they didn't have a shuttle service.

Also has a campground with a lot of trees about a mile walk from the lodge.

No bueno. We had shuttle service any time we wanted at M34 with it only being a little over a mile from the lodge and that still didn't work for us.

what is the goal, to be able to walk to the airport?

what is the goal, to be able to walk to the airport?

To be able to hang out at the airport, and be able to walk back to your room to get more food/drink/sunscreen and help it stay centralized.

EdFred hit the nail on the head. That is the ideal scenario, and Rough River appears to meet those goals. Apparently the canard folks dig it.

If we like the April time frame, I'd like to submit April 18-21 for the next one. Oshkosh and Gaston's both fall on my work weeks (assuming we do Gaston's the same week). Don't think I have enough vacay to do all three if "Eman's Somewhere in Kentucky Fly-in" is on a work week too. I know, shift people are difficult.

Another advantage of 2I3 (Rough River): It's only a 20 minute flight from there to the French Lick casino, one of Kristine's favorite day-trip destinations!

I’m game for whatever you guys decide, as long as it’s not the weekend of May 4th. My fiancèe would be pretty ****ed if I don’t show up to my own wedding. ;)

As others have said YES!! It's nice to be able to go back and forth at ones leisure instead of having to wait for a ride or shuttle and be "trapped" at one place or the other.

It completely changes the atmosphere of the fly-in when you can walk a few hundred yards from your cabin to "the flight line." Come to Gaston's, or better yet 6y9, and you'll see how cool it is when it's all right there together. Complete immersion instead of complete emersion.

Well now we know when, just need to know where and if there’s a landing strip, maybe I should say an airport in walking distance.

MFer! I thought I'd never have to read Nature by him again.

Okie, I respectfully submit that we do it the weekend after Easter.

Oh, good point, Bill. That hadn't crossed my mind. Well, maybe I can lobby to move Gaston's a week to or fro before it gets set . I'm off every other week, Thursday to Thursday. I literally only work half of the year, but for or some dang reason, every fly-in ever is done on a work week. It's uncanny actually. If I can get one of them moved one week fore or aft, it saves 4-5 days of vacation, and hopefully allow me to make Kentucky, Gaston's, and OSH. If it works out, it works out. No biggie.

A downside to April for some folks or maybe just me is that we like to or need to spread out our aviation trips and time away from regular life. Sun-n-Fun is in April. That’s the main reason I didn’ go to the dam. I had just been to SNF and then spent another week out of town on business. How about May or June?

OSH is in late July. So between Sun-n-fun and that would be May\June.
Also, June would allow more for water activities, if anyone is interested in sinking a pontoon.
