Wow. Just wow. I learned so much this weekend. Everything from what a real King Suite looks like to playing at the lounge.
Sometime mid-summer I'm going to do a scout flight up to Rough River SP, 2I3, and check the place out. @tmyers recommended the place as the runway is a lot closer to the lodge/restaurant. I looked at the web site and they also allow airport camping next to the apron, $10/night, and the building at the airport has hot showers. If it pans out I'd be up for camping as long as it isn't too hot. I'll likely post it as a lunch flyin to see if anyone wants to join me on the scouting. But any way it shakes out, we really need to repeat this one!
BTW, Little @timwinters D*ckhead, the Oberlie dog sausage was a big hit at the campfire cookout. Thanks for giving us your meat!
This week is nuts, probably won't have time to download/upload the pics until next week. But when I do, they'll be a good bit more than just that sweet-ass backmarker!
My girlfriend and I camped there last summer...camping for us was free (they didn't have change for a $50 when I tried to pay). New little terminal with showers and AC. Lodge is MUCH closer (maybe 500 yards). Lodge looks almost exactly the same as Kentucky Dam Lodge...must be the same plans and / or builder.
I'll definitely second that motion!!! @tmyers and I also talked about this on Saturday and I was going to suggest it also but you beat me to it. I've been to Rough River a few times and it's far more conducive to a fly-in than Kentucky Dam is/was. One can wander back and forth from the airport to the lodge at their leisure and not have to be constrained by rides. Kinda like Gaston's...not THAT close but close. Here's an aerial comparison from the Googlemeisters (and apparently some canard boys like Rough River too, the airport ramp was full of 'em when Google flew over). The campground is still not within easy walking distance but closer than Kentucky Dam. Unfortunately, the golf course just north of the lodge at Rough River closed about 6 years ago. Bummer, that woulda been quite convenient. There's one about 5 miles down the road but no longer one within walking distance.
Definitely post it...I'll grab some bourbon. Haha, kidding, but if that does end up as a destination and it's warm, I'm really close and can load up the truck with a couple of kayaks and a canoe. They don't take flooding as well as a pontoon though.
Not pictured but also attended, @Ben Diss, @Radar Contact, @kayoh190, @tawood, @timwinters Trying to remember others... Kudos to Ben Diss for attending after only a month on the forum and Shame on him for fitting right in!
@kayoh190 revives the age old debate regarding when outside alcohol becomes inside alcohol. Its coffee FAA, That cup has only black coffee in it. Nothing more. Sanka, perfect temp coffee.
I gotta think that @bbchien plans to release a book of case studies and that's why he keeps attending these events. Research donchaknow... (pssst...Bruce...Oberle Dog is worse than crack cocaine)
Haha! If my recollection is accurate, I think that guy poured the bourbon into my mouth while I played guitar. He's a one man rock 'n' roll pit crew.
Just doin my part to make sure nothing got spilled. That is Celine Dion Beauty & The Beast Signature series evening wear you had on. And Knob Creek both high dollar stuff
Thanks Bryan. Just what I was looking for. Now, to find a way to make the 500 mile journey next year...and to con my wife to let me do it....
Our passengers upon return to Michigan. For the sake of everyone on board we flew on 7,500’ even though that meant stronger headwind. Below 6’000’ it was REALLY bumpy and the 3.5 hours flight would have been very uncomfortable. Little sleepy heads:
Good advice. This was our first official fly-in. It was great meeting everyone... and Jenny (m'lady) was really glad that C.C., Melody(ie), Jeanette, Martina, (and all the ladies) were there while us knuckleheads blabbed about airplanes endlessly. The more girls the merrier for sure. Come on down!
Definitely. I would also expect Mrs6PC will want to catch the next one. JCranford said he's pumped for the next dam fly-in, and his lady will come. So I'm thinking we ought to have Cici, Jenny, Jeanette, Jaime, Melody(ie), Martina, Sue, Sue, Susan, Christine, Lisa, and Eren at least. Plus, when @Skyrys62 rolls out next year's redneck undergarments line, the females will flock to see me model it. Yeah, Rough River looks like a better spot fo sho. I suppose the extra 100 miles would be worth it. That'll be about 4.5 hrs. I can dig it. That must have been a big hairy redneck imposter in undies.
