I met Dan Gryder today

Do you keep your hippocampus in the spare bedroom? Does your hippocampus make a mess?
Naw, he'd keep the hippocampus in your his two-Id garage. He'd feed it there, and wash it there, and give it its massage....

Ron "Only a hippocampus would do" Wanttaja

that or what he did doesn't mean anything to them

the Internet is not a very useful metric for anything.
Like any communications medium, the Internet is capable of purveying truth and falsity equally well. It's up to the user to learn the tools for sorting fact from fiction.

I've heard that a hippocampus is a very dangerous animal.

I wonder if many that despise DG for his DTSB YouTube videos like Jerry Wagner

If wonder if he still has a google alert set for Air Jerry.

That was a name I'd forgotten about. Popped over to youtube and yeah, in the first five minutes of his most recent video he had me cringing.

Gryder is hanging it up?

Nope. He says that's clickbait 10 seconds in:

dan grer march 30 2025 it is sunday
night and yes the title of this video is
correct my final sunday night youtube
video is not necessarily tonight that's
a little bit of clickbait

But of course he's going to do other things, just not on Sunday night.

my flying has increased my flight
instruction has increased my aircraft
delivery stuff has increased my speaking
engagement stuff has increased and i've
got more airplane accident scenes that i
would like to visit

Looks like we have more theft to look forward to.

the sunday night
thing keep in mind i got no merch store
i got no sponsors i got no advertising i
don't make money off of youtube

With 117,000 subscribers? @SixPapaCharlie is that realistic? I highly doubt that's enough to live off of, but to say he doesn't make any money at all I feel is unlikely to be true.

back and redo it it's a one-take deal
every sunday so i've gotten a little bit
better at speaking a little bit faster
speaking a little bit more concise and
all this kind of stuff i can tell you
that the one thing i do love is video
editing video production my goal is to
cease these sunday night videos and i'm
going to try to do more documentary
style videos including music editing

So, not hanging it up.

this is november 721 mike bravo the tbm
700 up in minneapolis um i've put on
this autopilot stall this i believe it's
an autopilot stall i'm not one to
speculate

but i'll go ahead and
speculate

There it is. That didn't take long.

the pilot's name has not been
released i have his name

Well aren't you special. I bet that took nearly 10 seconds to figure out.

uh allowing me to do do these the format
has been i build them on sunday night
and launch them they only stay up for
six days that's worked very very well
for me

Yup, prevents accountability for errors.

Then at 13:13 he says that the title is clickbait, but that next sunday is the official last one.
Yeah, and then goes on to spend a long time talking about how he's just going to be shifting format and not doing them on Sunday night any more, like I said. Not hanging it up. So it's still clickbait.

Ok, fair. I guess I consider a transition to "music and other things" to be hanging it up. But can see why others might not.

Subscribers mean nothing. The only thing having a big subscriber count does is get you sponsors because sponsors don't know that subscribers mean nothing.

ad revenue comes from time spent watching. Lives don't generate much money at all and I don't think he monetizes his videos.

I'm not going to speculate publicly about where his money comes from but I could probably guess with a very high level of certainty and it would only surprise two or three people on this board.

Just for a ballpark if you have a 15 minute video that gets a million views that's $5,000 - $15,000 depending on your genre and a couple of other factors. He's not pulling numbers like that and also he only does lives so I suspect his YouTube ad revenue is minimal.

how much money do I make with 96 subscribers and about 30 views?

Subscribers mean nothing....
I don't see how they can mean nothing. the more subs, the more views, the more videos pop up in suggested feeds, which leads to more subs, which leads to more views, which leads to more ad revenue.........all of which lead to whoring yourself out into making stupid videos to get more subs to get more views to make more stupid videos with fake clickbait titles that create fake drama because it gets more views which gets more subs.........it's a vicious cycle. not YOU, of course, just the average 'tuber.

That's the mistake. I mean, "nothing" is overstating it a little. But thumbnails that get clicked and content that is sticky is vastly more important than subscribers. Clicks and content that people watch to completion is what gets you pushed by the algorithm.

I didn't watch the video, I just paused it and read the transcript so he wouldn't make any money off of me. However, it seems like he's still going to have plenty of "DTSB" aviation content, it's just that he's going to be doing a more edited format than the live format which will allow him to put more of his music in. He's not switching over to music and stopping aviation talk.

They mean nothing with respect to revenue. Revenue comes from the algorithm throwing your stuff over the wall outside your subscriber base and getting non subscribers to watch. Unless you have a massive multi-million subscriber base which most don't, just your core subscribers watching isn't going to generate significant revenue. It generates revenue but not noteworthy revenue

Even if you have millions, you still have to produce content people click on and watch. I'm not going to out him, because he's a great guy, but you and I both know an aviation creator that has about 2m subscribers and averages only 15-50K views. That's an extraordinarily low conversion rate.

Probably has to do with marketing demographics and behaviors too. If you have a couple million teenage girl followers who absolutely must have your yoga pants, you can name your own price.

Yeah, for sure. Different topics absolutely have different value to advertisers. If you can sell millions of yoga pants at low margins, that's one way to do it.

Insurance, Finance, Legal and other high end stuff can be lucrative on lower volumes.

I've found the "Block this channel" and the "Don't recommend this channel" options to be very effective for these kinds of videos.

i guess if DG suddenly starts wearing yoga pants in his videos, we’ll know what his goals are.
