He was giving a speech at a local EAA chapter at the Lincoln airport (KLHM) this morning. Why he was there or what his speech was about I have no idea, I just happened to be at the airport helping out with a ground school session a few hangars down and I heard he was there so I stopped by. I know who he is, but I don't follow him either so I'm not sure why he is so unpopular. Don't care either way. I'm ambivalent*.

That's all.

*Just leaned that word the other day, I've been using it in conversation lately.

I texted with him in the past and found him to be nice and helpful. I know people don’t like his approach to airplane crash videos but I have learned a couple things from him.

I know the word "narcissist" gets thrown around a lot these days and used as a general-purpose insult, but I'll be damned if it isn't accurate description of DG.

These six common symptoms of narcissism can help you identify a narcissist:
  1. Has a grandiose sense of self-importance.
  2. Lives in a fantasy world that supports their delusions of grandeur.
  3. Needs constant praise and admiration.
  4. Sense of entitlement.
  5. Exploits others without guilt or shame.
  6. Frequently demeans, intimidates, bullies, or belittles others.

in my ambivalent state I wondered "how many aviation incidents has this purveyor* of aviation safety had?"

*I didn't just learn this word but have been using it in conversations lately

Did your wonderment lead to further investigation and an end to your ambivalence?

This occurrence makes you a fully qualified aviation accident investigator and DC-3 SIC.

If you don't care either way, you're indifferent, rather than ambivalent.

I learned uncouth and decided to throw that out at dinner last night. Problem was nobody else knew it so I got a lot of quizzical looks....

Yeah, it's either that or a years long pattern of bad behavior including wrecked airplanes, protective orders and lawsuits. One of the two for sure.
I guess theft would be part of the bad behavior descriptor. The dude is a bag.

If you're ambivalent, you probably are still ignorant of what he's done. And I don't mean ignorant as an insult, just a descriptor.
How about next time you use the word uniformed or term not well informed.

Yeah, who cares if he breaks the law, steals, trespasses, wrecks airplanes with bad ADM and skills? He’s a YouTube star!

Steals? Like how the NTSB littered?

Funny the major offense when some dirty tax paying peasant makes the kings men look bad

that’s the stupidest argument I’ve heard in a long time. Someone else does bad things too, so his bad deeds don’t matter. Keep kissing his ****, I’m sure he enjoys it.
Riiight

I once watched him form up on somebody while he was nordo in a bird dog in Kansas.
The individual was giving rides to kids in a Carbon Cub and DG thought it would be really funny to buzz them.

Then he got out and proceeded to give a speech about how we need to reduce the accident rate in general aviation.

There's video of it but the person who has the video won't release it because they fear retaliation.
"He has been known to find peoples' employers and call them trying to get them fired."
Probably nonsense but the person holding the video stated this is the reason they don't want to push it.

that or what he did doesn't mean anything to them

the Internet is not a very useful metric for anything.

Charisma is not the same as character, though a lot of people fall prey to charismatic people without even realizing it. Dan can be very charismatic, and that hides most or all of his faults for people who fall for the trickery because they don't want to believe that someone so nice could be so wrong.

My personal view is that Gryder is probably correct about some of the things he pontificates on, but there is so much irrelevant, inaccurate information and wild speculation to wade through that I would simply prefer to save the space in my hippocampus for something worth a little more. Like a Batman cartoon or something.
