Here's an example why a criminal arrest matters to the FAA...

The reason has nothing to do with what tanks were designed to do. Even those that have had concrete poured down their guns are banned on public roads.

Have you ever seen what a tank track does to pavement? That's why.

So I wasn't being serious but now that we're talking about driving tanks on roads, I did find this one being used on public roads in the UK

man-drives-tank.jpg

I would guess as long as you disable the killing stuff, and do thinks like rubber tracks and the tank is not too wide and has the required equipment (bumpers, etc),
nothing should really stop it... Emissions maybe? Interesting question. I'd like to drive around in a tank. I'd be less concerned about being shot at by some 2nd amendment nutjob. ;)

So it's not politics when the liberal types take pot shots, but if the pro-2A guys say anything close to what you do, we're being political...

From getting into situations when I was right, but not in a good position, both in this country and abroad

I would have said "sorry, we'll leave" b lined it for my car and got the heck out of there, no putting camera in people's faces, no "sir, sir, sir, sir, sir" and arguing about how I'm right, who cares! When he runs your butt over being right ain't going to stop you from getting killed.

I'd wager in the amount of time it took for the situation to get where it was once the video started, he could have been long gone.

Picking your battles, little 120lb kid in a European economy car, vs a 200lb guy in a large truck, got to be a idiot to play that game, just frickin shut up and lay rubber out of there

I don't see what the vehicle type has to do with anything.

A European economy car can kill just like a genital-comparison truck.

I'm telling you, the earlier part of the video was being uploaded to the Cloud via one of Clinton's servers and mysteriously disappeared. This happening all too frequently anymore.

Does shouting and screaming at people like that really get you what you want? I've always wondered about people like that... it must work at least part of the time if they do it but I find it surprising. I find it impossible to take a person like that seriously... like to the point I have to suppress outright laughter. I'd certainly never do business with them, hire them, or interact with them socially if I could help it.

If that dude went to go full on crazy, who do you think wins

220lb rural dude vs 120 suburb kid

Huge truck vs economy car.

The kid was out weighed in every aspect, if things would have gone really south he would have lost, right or wrong, doesn't matter, don't try to wrestle a pig, especially one twice your weight that's really angry with you.

Nah. You have to stand up for what is right and besides bullies like that are usually cowards unable to follow through if you stand up to them.

Or they fracking kill you.

But hey, if you're right don't back down right!!

I take it you never have spent much time in 3rd world countries.

hahahah! Dude I'm from a 3rd world country.

Should have had it printed up as a big sign and hung outside the FBO. If you're gonna call someone out, call someone out. :D
He was leaving, I was arriving. He got it, with my name and phone number. Didn't hear back, though. . .

It's California. CCW? Are you effing serious? Only the **** bags, carjackers and drug runners have a gun.

Tax paying, God fearing honest citizens are not responsible enough to carry. The 9th circuit juts reaffirmed this.

In Ar , that tool would have been dispatched. Everyone has a concealed piece and we also have Constitutional Carry now as well.

And that is a good thing? Guns being "dispatched" because of this d-bag's road rage would have a much higher probability of this event turning fatal. Everybody has a bad day. I'm not excusing this d@ckead one bit, but I'd imagine he's relatively reasonable most days of the week. An anger-induced trigger pull would have changed their lives permanently (and their friends and family). I'm glad this did occur in California, where most people aren't packing heat.

Methinks this douchenozzle would be one of the first in line for a CCW. Dunno how a CCW would have HELPED this situation.

Kick him in the crotch hard enough that he can sing a note that will break glass. Then run like he!!

I dunno. . .if we were all packing, maybe interaction would be more polite? Sure, there would be the occasional deadly escalation, but maybe we'd net out with fewer KIAs? Maybe not. . .then again, it's not like humans are an endangered species.

My son had a neighbor in NC who had some theft problems with locals. So he sat on his front porch, conspicuosly and heavily armed a few nights. Made the neighbirs nervous, but the problem abated. The police stopped by to explain it wasn't a good idea. He explained he didn't give a single frack what they thought. And ordered them to hit the road, as well. If the cops had been less professional, that could have gone bad, too. . .

Ownership of tanks has never been banned. There was some guy nearby who accumulated a few hundred of them, and even ran a local museum (mountain folk sometimes make some oddball, and not well publicized, museums -- this guy sure wasn't the only one), until he died and his estate really wasn't interested.

as the token Tank Commander here, a M1 tank only exerts about 14 psi of ground pressure while the new wheeled Stryker exerts about 30 psi even though it is about 45 tons lighter. We only tear up roads when we want to.

When I was in germany we would dive through the towns and on the autobahn for miles. We never had a problem damaging roads but, from time to time, a car might get a little close or pull out in front of a tank moving at 45 mph. It didn't work out very well for them....

oh and my take on the video is that if the driver pulled that crap with me, he's have been on his back and would have needed a few new truck parts as well.

one of the guys was holding a metal light stand and it should have found its way across the dude's brain bucket as soon as he started pushing that one kid around.

Exactly, some people man...

Like I said, I'm guessing a decent amount happend before the kid decided to start filming, and just because you're right doesn't mean you're right.

"Well he should have had a gun" dude please. As someone who does have guns, this ain't a firearm situation, this is a, for right or wrong, you're ****ing off the locals, just frickin' say sorry as get the heck out of dodge, this ain't rocket surgery.

Yeah, sure

James is this guy your hero? You talk about him like he's a NFL middle linebacker. 220 lbs, yea of bad weight i.e FAT, no muscle tone, really pathetic and an excellent example of the countless middle aged men in this country who think the heavier they get, the tougher they are. Never-mind it's actually obesity and sign of mental weakness. He is extremely lucky he decided to show off his man skills to some passive gentlemen and got away with it instead of getting the beat down he so justly deserved.

I'm the first one who brought up a gun, but I never said he should have used it if he had one. However, I think if he'd used it, it would have been justified by a jury (maybe not in CA). The guy in the Excursion showed bad judgment on racing his car toward them and sliding to stop just short of them. Who knows how good his driving skills are when doing something like that? A one foot mistake and this could be a different story. If I had been in that situation, I would have assumed the guy was going to try to inflict physical harm when he came out of the car after charging me multiple times. I agree with others, I'm glad it didn't end in someone getting shot or killed, but if you're going to be the brave guy who probably weighs about the same as the other two guys combined, you'd better be ready for them to fight for their lives.

Obviously CA is a wild card on "what the court would do"...that said, I think he would have been ok. The court decisions I'm familiar with (regarding shooting drivers who are using their car as a weapon) generally look heavily at "self induced jeopardy." Essentially, did you put yourself in front of the vehicle and/or otherwise create the conditions leading to your need to use deadly force, or did the driver seek you out? In this case, the camera guy is standing on one side of the road, the guy in the SUV has driven away like he might be leaving, then points his rig at the camera guy and accelerates. At that point there's no reasonable way for the camera guy to go anywhere fast enough to avoid being hit. The fact that the driver stopped is completely irrelevant because that is not information available to the camera guy at the time. In his head, at that moment, I have no doubt that there could have been reasonable fear of death or serious injury being imminent.

IF I had a gun, and that dude got in my face like that, I'd be very close to using it or at least getting my hand on it. That guy was big time crazy and erratic. I'm bigger than those kids, but that dude was bigger than me, and he was just plain unreasonable. He struck me as the type of guy to do something no matter what you did to deescalate the situation. IMO there's a big difference between arguing with some guy that's mad at you but making sense vs. some lunatic that's just mad for the sake of being crazy. As soon as he whipped his car around and acted like he wanted to run those kids over, you knew something wasn't clicking right in his brain.

He acts like that because people allow him to. I've been around people like him my entire life and chose not to allow that behavior to go unchallenged. They allowed him to do that by being passive.

Obviously Hollywood, but this clip from Tombstone came to mind...

But but they were in his f#@%& drive way man....;)

There are many ways to stand up to a bully. Putting his dumb ass in the public square via modern technology can be a very effective one. Not all problems need to be solved violently.

I think you nailed it. To me, most who are simply having a bad day will generally calm down when the other side doesn't buy into the fight and speaks calmly. A little alarm bell goes off and says "bud, you're out of line here." An apology and an attempt to make amends usually follows. But when the guy who's mad continues to escalate no matter how calm the other half is, that's textbook crazy. There's little or no rationalizing that's going to take place with someone like that.

Very true but as soon as he threatened them with his truck he pulled them on a different path. The moment he got out of his truck and got in the kids face he became an immediate threat. This is where violence for the sake of self defense and self preservation fits perfectly.

Read what I wrote earlier, than re read it again SLOWLY. Here I'll post it for you

Well, no idea what happend before he starts filming.

The kids are idiots too, just being punks and instead of simply ending the situation by leaving they decide escalate the situation and antagonize the dude in the truck, who's already ****ed, even further .

Dumb and dumber

I'm just not sure how is this so complicated, the guy was acting like an idiot, the kid, well much like on some of those police videos you see, well I got no idea what lead up to the video, he seemed more interested in continuing the conversation and filming than moving to a safer position.

I said it before, I'll say it again, both parties were acting like idiots.

A few years ago in Thailand, friends and I got a cab ride, ended up getting dropped off by where a bunch of other cabs and tuktuks were parked, cab driver was trying to hustle us for way more than we agreed, we said "go off the meter" and he decided to change his mind and make up a higher fair, we were arguing a bit, a few of the other drivers were starting to gather, this was all over like the US equivalent of 5 bucks, I handed the driver the money and grabbed my friends and said "walk away", it's picking your battles, what we could gain vs loose.

How long have you desired to be the tuff guy and kill someone?

I've met the type, folks who just hope someone gives them "an excuse" to get all John Wayne and "blow them away".

If I'm drawing, I'm drawing to fire, not flash a firearm around, ether way this wasn't that type of situation.

Hang around enough death and you'll get over it, watch family members come unglued when they hear the news, watch someone go from a person to rotting meat, it's not as romantic as you think.

When that guy in the truck first came by, I'd wager a good 5 min before the kid started with the camera, I'd have just said "sorry" grabbed by chit and pounded sand, lots of other side of the road areas you can take pictures at, no skin off my back.

Yeah. There's no way that this dude flew off the handle for little to no reason. I'm sure he was at least somewhat justified in trying to run over two people on a public roadway while losing his mind about his "driveway." Because he seemed to be such a reasonable individual.

*rollseyes*

It's easy to look back and say, "A gun would have made it worse," because we know the outcome wasn't severe...but with this guy's behavior, who could of predicted the outcome at the midway point? I think if an armed person had been the victim, the nut-job's destiny would have been different, and justifiably so...

Seems to be other vehicles there, possible witnesses?

WHO FRACKING CARES

So go put the camera in the guys face and continue arguing with him

OR, crazy talk here, removing yourself from the equation.

The kid kept saying "I'm leaving" and all this other crap but he just kept filming the guy and arguing with him, escalating the situation.

I just don't get how people have become this dumb, or why they are looking for a fight, especially one which it appears jr. wouldn't have won.

Who cares who's right, it's easier and safer to just leave right off the bat.

When I'm stopped at a red light, it turns green, I still look both ways, yeah I'm legal and "right" to just go, the other guy would be "wrong" if he blew the light, but I DONT CARE, I'm not going to end up getting medevaced by my own guys just to "be right". My ego just isn't that fragile.

OR, crazy talk here, removing yourself from the equation.

James - I'm confused with your peace and love approach here. You say they were messing with the locals and should have just left. You had quite a different approach awhile back when I first joined this forum. We were discussing people taking photos and you insinuated violence would happen if someone took photos of your work plane or your girlfriend in a bikini because it was creepy, even if it was legal (which it is). By your advice above, shouldn't you just leave? These guys were photographers. Do you just have a problem with photographers? I clearly remember comments of we should expect to have our cameras taken away and be beaten with them.

Who's to say if they tried to leave he would have just let them go? Clearly before he got out of the truck, they were gathering up their equipment. He decided to turn around and confront them one more time. You're blaming the victims.

Here the outcome, creep gets a busted lip and camera, SD card gets dislodged and lost in the scuffle, witnesses (who are all likely with the party who didn't want their photo taken) all will say you were politley asked to not take photos, you became irate and attempted to strike the person it appeared you were stalking with your camera, the party who didn't want their photo taken defended the self, others assisted.

I have no desire to kill someone or act macho, but I also don't want to get beaten to a pulp, either. From what I can see in the video, the kid was just stating his case (which IMO was correct). I probably would have done the same thing. When the guy went all batcrap crazy, I would have definitely called it a day and left. By then, the guy had already started losing his mind, throwing the F bomb and in little time, driving his car in their direction. I don't know how you know to avoid that situation. It's not like you know someone is going to respond like that. I probably would have kept filming, too. Probably wouldn't have gotten in his face, but I would want to have some record of the situation if it got ugly (like it did).

Repeat the mantra: "VICTIM'S SHOULD NOT FIGHT BACK".
James, you sound like a sheep.

I prefer the Kennedy quote: "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

You appear to have the IQ of a sheep.

This wasn't filming a revolution, this wasn't stopping a home invader, this wasn't toppling a tyrant, this was a couple rich kids taking photos of a car, pi$$ing some local off, and escalating the situation to prove they were "right"

Break into my home and I have no qualms taking someone's life, and the like.

But, again, this wasn't that.

Just don't mess with folks, if you end up in someone's space, just leave, not complicated.

What I said about people taking photos on the ramp, involved them filming my person, family and property, property which happens to have 12" numbers which lead somewhat to my personal info.

Now would I go all nuts like this dude, I highly doubt it, ofcourse the kid seemed more interested in filming and provoking than resolving the situation.

It's just return on investment, in the situation in the video just go drive a few miles down the road, put the phone back in your pocket, shut your mouth, grab your chit and get gone, lots of road side to film on.

Go watch Anthony Bordane Parts Unknown, his film crew know when to stop filming and when to keep their heads down, the US is quite diffrent in some ways, but people are all the same in other ways, don't look for trouble, and if you manage to find it, go in the other direction. These kids weren't filming to liberate the people, they were just being annoying and a part of the problem.

This. Everyone went home in one piece, and the offender got what he deserved. I'm assuming there are some major mental health issues at play with that guy. I hope he can get them straightened out and get past this.
