OK - weather looks good on Friday to get in, good on Sunday to get out. And rain all day on Saturday.......... :sosp:

Any tips, advice on landing there? Anything I don't know that I don't know? I see you always land on 24, and always depart on 06. I have oversized tires on a 182P, so a 3200' grass strip should be fine.
It's in the bottom of the valley, so you'll feel alarmingly close to the ridge on downwind. The trees at the end of the runway (the goalposts) are not as narrow as they look. You'll have 30' on each side if you're centered. There's lots of clearway, and the runway is very smooth, so it's really pretty easy. I think you could land/takeoff the other way, but I've never seen anyone do it. There are trees/powerlines that direction.

This video made by @kaiser was helpful for me to watch a couple times before I landed there, mainly so I knew what the picture would look like on final and where I should aim!
I think the field should be a total non-event in a C182!

EDIT: Also, there's a paved strip just a few miles from Gastons -- Baxter County KBPK -- which is a great alternative if for whatever reason you're not feeling the grass strip when you're coming in. Gastons will send out their shuttle and come get ya.

Honestly I hated that landing. It was my first time into 3M0 (so 2020? or 21?) in and I line up with the "gap" in the trees which ends up being a dog leg, so then I do a goofy almost turning landing and end up on the "left side of the runway".

My recommendation is to square the base to final a bit more. The only time landing is really tough is when there's a strong NW wind, you get real mountain-y wind effects off of that ridge line.

Was just there a month ago in our 206. Only thing to add to what @Jim K said is don't get to low on the base turn and hit the wires over the river. Granted you would have to be EXTREMELY low IMHO but it's worth noting. If time and weather allows go check out Trigger Gap if you have never been.

I’m not sure why people insist on “following the river“ instead of flying a normalish pattern. That was my plan anyways.

I’ve seen Ken Ibold do it in a Husky. IIRC, I’ve seen it one or two other times too, but I don’t recall what type of AC.

There's one thing we don't talk about before fly-ins....

Otherwise, yeah, everyone has it pretty much covered to just do a normal pattern even though some of them hills will look a bit close. Treat the trees at the end of the runway like goal posts and go between. If at first you don't like the look, go around and try again.

Watch out for the guy on the lawn mower…

Looks like 12 total with Greg, maybe more if @mandm is confirmed. Looking forward to seeing y’all tomorrow! If anyone is coming from the SW, should be nice tailwinds. It’ll be the slow races for Jim, ArrowFlyer, and me, heh.

Meh. I'll just shovel a little more coal into the old firebox.

Looks like I’m going to miss this year, my airplane is down for annual, and the drive is 9+ hours each way. Have fun everyone.

Folks, Im sure the fine people at Gaston's will inform you but, for those coming and fishin' see below

120 day emergency order for catch and keep.

The decision calls for catch-and-release of all trout in the 45 miles of tailwater below Bull Shoals Dam to the White River’s confluence with the North Fork River (specifically to the boat ramp at Norfork Access), as well as catch-and-release only on the entirety of the Norfork Dam tailwater.

Not Carl. An actual lawnmower guy that ignored landing traffic on final. I’m here and see no lawnmower guy (no Carl either).

But hope y’all brought your Oshkosh ropes because parking is full. I’ve got a set if someone doesn’t have them packed.IMG_0300.jpeg

I have my ropes - but no stakes

BTW - “Carl” was a Caddy Shack reference ……..

I have a very different Carl reference burned into my brain.

Also, I think there is a second fly-in. 14 aircraft, two low wings at the moment. Where are the piper bros?

Is there a POA gathering spot here?

Landed BPK, got grilling food. Shuttle coming to grab me.
Anyone able to donate fridge space when I get there? My hotel room doesn't have one...
